Abstract:
The three publishing houses of Wen-wu in Peking, Shanghai shu-tien, and Ku-chi in Tientsin joined forces to produce a new edition of the Taoist Canon. The Tao-tsang they published in 1988 is meant to be an improvement on the so-called Cheng-t'ung Tao-tsang printed in 1921–23 by the Han-fen lou branch of Shanghai Commercial Press. The latter takes as its foundation the copy of the Ming Canon from the archives of the Pai-yün Kuan (White Cloud Abbey) in Peking. The woodcut edition of the Ming Canon contains two components. The core collection appeared under the title Ta Ming Tao-tsang ching in the years 1444–45 of the Cheng-t'ung reign period. A small supplement entitled Hsü Tao-tsang ching was issued in 1607.

Abstract:
It is a commonplace in modern Chinese history that the twin-concept of t'i–yung espoused a doctrine of cultural conservatism in late-Ch'ing China. Briefly, the dichotomy is seen as a call to preserve the ‘substance’ (t'i) of the Chinese cultural tradition by adopting the ‘function’ (yung) of Western technology, or simply, to strengthen Confucian China by implementing Western-inspired reforms; hence, the famous slogan, ‘Chinese learning for fundamental principles and Western learning for practical application’ (Chung-hsueh wei-t'i Hsi-hsueh weiyung). Both the slogan and the position it reflects have long come under criticism. An early, influential critic was Yen Fu, the well-known interpreter of Social Darwinism in late-Ch'ing China. In 1902, in a published open letter to the editor of Wai-chiao pao (Foreign affairs magazine), Yen expanded on an earlier view of a contemporary schlar, Ch'iu T'ing-liang, that the notion of t'i-yung, when properly applied, refers to the two complementary aspects of a single entity and not to attributes from two different juxtaposed objects. To drive home his point, Yen cites an analogy. An ox as t'i has its yung, which is to carry heavy loads, whereas a horse as t'i has its yung, which is to go long distances. Now the attempt to combine a t'i with an extraneous yung is like ascribing a horse's function to an ox's body, or vice versa, and the result could only be a bizarre mismatch, an affront to nature's purposes.

Abstract:
Buddhism was transmitted to China during the Han Dynasty (202 BCE-220 CE) and integrated with existing Chinese cultures such as Confucianism and Taoism. Within Buddhism itself, Avalokiteśvara, a Bodhisattva who is believed to have made a great vow to assist sentient beings in times of difficulty and postpone his Buddhahood until he has assisted every sentient being in achieving nirvana, experienced a long process of change. One of the striking changes in the image of Avalokiteśvara in China is the shifting of the gender of Avalokiteśvara. The great Sui-Tang dynasties patronized Buddhism as a state cult during the more significant portion of their reign. Many scholars like Wu Yan, Jiao Jie, Sun Xiushen, Cui Feng, etc. observed that the Sui-Tang period was the turning point for the gender transformation of Kuan-yin.[1] In this paper, I am going to do a comparative study on the representations of Avalokiteśvara from both India and China broadly from the seventh to tenth centuries, to see how Kuan-yin transformed in China and whether there might be influences from India in the ways that Kuan-yin’s gender is constructed in the iconography.

Abstract:
From a comparison of the surreal worlds of Pu Songling and Mo Yan in their respective auctorial context, this paper argues that although Pu Songling’s short stories integrate surreal elements, contrary to the accepted typology of genres, they fall into realistic and not speculative fiction because the worldview of Imperial China in which he lived not only accepted the supernatural as real, but as foundational to the traditional order. By comparison, Mo Yan’s supernatural stories partly fall within supernatural literature, because post-1949 China espoused a scientific worldview which banishes the supernatural. On a second level, however, both Pu Songling’s and Mo Yan’s surreal fictions are political satires of their times. Yet, even on this point they diverge. While Pu Songling articulates the social and political criticism of his present to surreal elements, Mo Yan casts the surreal as a stand-in for the exceptional situations of his recent past which are the object of his criticisms.

Abstract:
Recently the knowledge management processes are analysed as the main source of uniqueness for the organisations, while they are facing the challenge of implementing the most efficient processes that affect their performance (Chang, Hsu, & Yen, 2012; Kianto, Vanhala, & Heilmann, 2016; Raudeliūnienė & Meidutė-Kavaliauskienė, 2016; Raudeliūnienė, Davidavičienė, & Jakubavičius, 2018; Känsäkoski, 2017). The scientists distinguish different combinations of knowledge manage-ment processes in approaching the knowledge management process and analysis has shown that knowledge management processes, studied by most scientists, do not have a clear knowledge man-agement structure (García-Fernández, 2015; Raudeliūnienė et al., 2018). The purpose of this study is to examine the knowledge management concept and knowledge management cycle considering the different interpretations of scientists. The study is grounded on scientific literature review.

Guo, Hu, Menghao Zhang, Xiuqin Lyu, Yang Xu, En Meng, Hongtao Fu, Yuxuan Zhang, and Kaoping Song. "Recent Advances of Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer ASP Flooding in China." In SPE Improved Oil Recovery Conference. SPE, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/209458-ms.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Latest advances of ASP flooding (ASP) field tests in China are provided to focus ontwo major concerns: ASP EOR cost and technical matureness. Benefits with and without alkali for ASP were discussed. ASP flooding mechanisms in Chinese perspective are discussed. Although 54 tests were surveyed, 5 recent typical ASP field tests are discussed with special attention: the only one using horizontal wells (HASP), one combining microbial flooding (MASP), one in conglomerate reservoir (Xinjiang), one in a 81°C reservoir (Henan) and the only organic alkali one (OASP). 2D nanosheets surfactant with moderate low interfacial tension (IFT)(10-1mN/m) making highest incremental oil recovery (IOR) (Yin et al, 2019; Raj et al,2019) proves that ultra-low IFT is not essential for EOR (Figure 1). It is emulsification rather than ultra-low IFT that dominates high IOR (Guo, 2018; Cheng et al, 2019). Alkali is very important and necessary to reduce surfactant adsorption, promote emulsification and improve polymer injectivity (Figure 2). Interfacial viscosity should have been regarded more important. 29 commercial blocks in Daqing are conducted (Cheng etal,2019). ASP flooding produced 32.6 million bbl oil (Zhang, 2019) in 2018 and accounts for 14% total oil production (Figure 3). HASP test (2012-2017) in Daqing makes the highest IOR of 29.66% OOIP, 10%higher than all the other vertical well ASP (VASP). 5 horizontal wells (3 Injectors 2 Producers). ASP slug is 0.45PV and viscosity is 30 mPa.s with 10-3 mN/m IFT.14. 1millon bbl oil is produced. OASP field test with 10 injectors and 21 producers in high divalent ion heavy oil reservoir in Shengli produced 6.47 millionbbls and predicted IOR of 11.9% OOIP with 0.45PV slug (0.1%A +0.3%S+1500ppm P). Water cut dropped from 97.8% to 90.5% and daily oil production rises from 138.6 bbl to 554.4bbl. B1DD and B2XASP reported financial internal rate of return (FIRR) of 18.01% and 22.7% respectively. MASP (2008-2014) was reported IOR of 20.57% OOIP (26.7% predicted). 1.237 PV chemical slug including 0.06PV microbialslug [2% microbe fluid and 2% nutrient solution] was injected to 9 Injectors corresponding to 16 Producers. Better injectivity and economic performance are observed (FIRR=31.40%). Chemical cost is445 CNY/ton. ASPF in a conglomerate reservoir goes well. ASP flooding was commercially used in Daqing. Some commercial ASPtests failed to attain its goal (Cheng et al,2019). HASP has achieved 10% OOIP higher incremental oil recovery than all the others VASP. Ultra-low IFT should not be the most important factor aspreviously believed. Emulsification contributed by alkali is vital. However, emulsion viscosity should beoptimized. A totally different new macroscopic capillary number theory can well explain many hard-to-understand field test results. Alkali is both important and necessary.

Abstract:
The extreme hazards such as large floods, earthquakes, fires or explosion may be lead to an extensive damage or large scale incident in NPP, for instance, loss of command and control, loss of most instruments or equipment which are used for accident mitigation. The typical situations are loss of control room and alternate shutdown capabilities, or loss of AC and DC power, or all of them. Extreme Hazards Mitigation Guideline (EHMG) is developed as the coping strategy for the above extensive damage situations according to the requirements of the characteristic of CPR1000 NPP and the modifications implemented after Fukushima accident. The technical scheme and frame of EHMG includes two modules: EH-IRs (initial response) and EH-MGs (mitigation guideline). And then based on the typical accident analysis, the critical diagnostic parameters and mitigation strategies were made for the EHMG. EH-IRs contains the following contents: Rebuilding the command and control, Off-Site and On-Site Communications, Initial Operational Response Actions, Initial Damage Assessment. EH-MGs contains the following strategies: Manually operating auxiliary turbo pump, Manually depressurizing SGs and injecting into SG, Alternate makeup to RCS, Controlling containment conditions, Alternate Makeup to Spent fuel pool, Alternate Makeup to water storage tank, Containment flooding and so on. The strategies in EHMG can cover both prevention and mitigation phases of severe accident. The first EHMG in China has been validated and implemented in Hong Yan He NPP in September, 2016.

Understanding tree-cover transitions, drivers and stakeholders’ perspectives for effective landscape governance: a case study of Chieng Yen Commune, Son La Province, Viet Nam. World Agroforestry, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.5716/wp21023.pdf.

Abstract:
Integrated landscape management for sustainable livelihoods and positive environmental outcomes has been desired by many developing countries, especially for mountainous areas where agricultural activities, if not well managed, will likely degrade vulnerable landscapes. This research was an attempt to characterize the landscape in Chieng Yen Commune, Son La Province in Northwest Viet Nam to generate knowledge and understanding of local conditions and to propose a workable governance mechanism to sustainably manage the landscape. ICRAF, together with national partners — Vietnamese Academy of Forest Sciences, Soil and Fertilizer Research Institute — and local partners — Son La Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Son La Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Chieng Yen Commune People’s Committee — conducted rapid assessments in the landscape, including land-use mapping, land-use characterization, a household survey and participatory landscape assessment using an ecosystem services framework. We found that the landscape and peoples’ livelihoods are at risk from the continuous degradation of forest and agricultural land, and declining productivity, ecosystem conditions and services. Half of households live below the poverty line with insufficient agricultural production for subsistence. Unsustainable agricultural practices and other livelihood activities are causing more damage to the forest. Meanwhile, existing forest and landscape governance mechanisms are generally not inclusive of local community engagement. Initial recommendations are provided, including further assessment to address current knowledge gaps.
