Abstract:
The paper examines the literary-critical views of Yurii Sherekh of the Artistic Ukrainian Movement’s (MUR) period, clarifes his understanding of ‘visnykivstvo’ and ‘Kyiv neoclassicism’ as literary phenomena, the content and significance of the theory of ‘national organic style’, and the idea of antaeism. The worldview and aesthetic positions of Yurii Sherekh are considered in the context of ideological and literary discussions of the late 1940s. The research involved the literary-critical and historical literary studies written by Yurii Sherekh in the postwar period and interpreted their textual connections with the works by Yurii Sherekh himself and by his intellectual associates and opponents. Yurii Sherekh’s idea of the ‘national organic style’ was not only one of the stages of the literary researcher’s worldview evolution, but also a certain result of the development of Ukrainian literary-critical thought in the mid-20th century. This idea grew out of the literary experience of the 1920s and was associated with the process of updating the national artistic tradition and adopting Western Europe literature’s achievements in the 1940s. The approval of the idea of ‘national-organic style’ in the ideological and aesthetic concepts of Yurii Sherekh was accompanied by the rejection of the ‘Vistnyk’s’ and ‘neoclassical’ traditions. The analysis of the main points of Yurii Sherekh’s polemic with Dmytro Dontsov as a symbolic representative of the “Vistnyk’s” ideology and Volodymyr Derzhavyn as the main supporter of the ‘neoclassicism’ theory reveals some inconsistency of Yurii Sherekh’s definitions of neoclassicism. Yurii Sherekh’s idea of antaeism was a certain Ukrainian equivalent of European existentialism, rooted in the history and philosophy of Ukrainian resistance.
The paradox of Yuri Sherekh’s theory was in combining the desire for modernity with the return to tradition, while the dogmatism of his ‘national organic’ approach to certain phenomena and works somewhat ideologized his assessments and views. There are reasons to tell about the conventionality of Yurii Sherekh’s division of the Ukrainian mid-20th century writers into ‘organists’ and ‘Europeists’, who visualized, on his opinion, two main directions of Ukrainian literature’s development. In fact, the various types of ‘Europeanism’ and ‘organicity’ were inevitably intertwined.

Kononenkо, Iryna. "Psycholinguistic and psychological foundations of the decoding of the Maya writing (to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Knorozov)." 93, no. 93 (December 22, 2023): 90–97. http://dx.doi.org/10.26565/2227-1864-2023-93-14.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the psycholinguistic and psychological grounds for the interest in the language and culture of the Maya people by Yuri Knorozov, a genius native of Kharkiv. It was Knorozov who deciphered the Mayan script, which made it possible to read Mayan books, inscriptions on monuments, and continue to replenish the treasury of knowledge about this people. The figure of the scientist and his research methods have been largely distorted in a number of scientific works and in the media. This article refutes these insinuations and explains the prerequisites for Yurii Knorozov's interest in Maya writing. Such a study is being conducted for the first time. The origins of Knorozov's interest in Mayan culture lie in his childhood. Yurii's parents used a deeply thought-out system of child-rearing, developing a love of literature and art in their children. Yurii Knorozov's children's drawings have been preserved, some of which are illustrations to Konstantin Balmont's works about Mexico, primarily about the history, mythology, and archaeological sites of the Maya. The family used to write coded notes to each other. In the future, this helped Yurii Knorozov to find a system for deciphering Mayan hieroglyphics. During his student years, Knorozov began researching Mayan books. He developed a method of positional statistics and cross-reading, identifying 355 hieroglyphs; he also discovered the sign-phonetic syllable relationship in Mayan writing. Yurii Knorozov's scientific heritage, research methods, and biographical facts require further analysis. The figure of the scientist and his works should be popularized in Ukraine.

Vasylenko, Vadym. "“Seignior Nicolo” by Yurii Kosach and Gogol text in ukrainian literature of the 20th century." Слово і Час, no. 1 (February 2, 2021): 87–104. http://dx.doi.org/10.33608/0236-1477.2021.01.87-104.

Full text
Abstract:
In the context of the Ukrainian Gogol discourse of the 20th century, the paper analyzes fragments from the unfinished Yurii Kosach’s novel “Seignior Nicolo”, which deals with the history of Mykola Gogol. The researcher focuses on the peculiarities of Kosach’s understanding of Gogol and the worldview analogies of the two writers.
The concept of symbolic autobiography is understood as a manifestation of the author’s self through the image and history of the other. Presenting the Roman episode in Gogol’s biography, Yurii Kosach tells his own symbolic story, and this relationship between fictitious and real stories functions as a certain way of the author’s symbolic self-representation in his text and through the text.
The incomplete Yuri Kosach’s novel about Gogol is considered in the context of ideological discussions about the national and cultural identity of the writer, as a component of Gogol discourse in Ukrainian literature of the 20th century. The problem of Gogol’s duality, understood in ideological and psychological aspects, manifests a worldview split of Yurii Kosach himself, his own drama. Yuri Kosach’s re-thinking of Gogol’s figure must have been an attempt of destroying two main ideological myths: the Russian-imperial, based on the Soviet, socialist-realist Gogol’s cult, and the colonial one, rooted in the Ukrainian populist tradition.
In addition, the paper pays attention to the sources of Kosach’s novel and clarifies the historical and psychological contexts of its creation, as well as its inter- and midtextual relations, both with Kosach’s works and Gogol discourse as a whole. It is argued that in the history of Gogol the writer considered the problem of cultural colonialism, both in the political and psychological aspects, in particular the problem of Gogol’s sexuality, ‘fear of sex’, which is associated with colonial subordination and the loss of masculinity.
The main personal manifestation of Gogol in the novel by Kosach is a migrant, i. e. a man without ground, an artist without a motherland. The history of Gogol in Rome is examined through the relation of “Seignior Nicolo” to Gogol’s “Rome”, a comparison of the Roman text in Gogol’s and Kosach’s works

Abstract:
This paper proposes YURAGI synthesis for brain imaging under the skull. The advantage of the proposed method over conventional methods is that, using YURAGI synthesis, it is possible to obtain the effective results without image registration. Image registration is generally needed when more than two images are to be synthesized into one image. YURAGI synthesis does not need image registration; thus, its method is simpler than other methods that need image synthesis. The effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed by comparing its error rate and accuracy with those of other methods. YURAGI leads the simple and energy-saving system with performing autoregulation. Autoregulation is utilized in many biological systems. In this study, YURAGI was applied to an ultrasound-based diagnostic medical imaging technique. The experimental results using YURAGI were superior to those using othermethods. Thus, YURAGI is useful for visualizing the human brain.11. This paper has been reviewed and accepted as a regular paper. The paper was invited and incorporated into the Special Issue on Advances in Fuzzy Inference and its Related Techniques.

The article offers a review of the George Roerich Annual International Meeting, an annual conference in which researchers traditionally participate, continuing the main directions of scientific activity of George Roerich (russ.: Yurii Nikolaevich Rerikh, 1902-1960). In 2021, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian Tibetologist Yuri Mikhailovich Parfionovich (1921-1990) was celebrated, and the conference was dedicated to his memory. It began with the memorial part, in which the speakers shared their memories of Y.M. Parfionovich and told about his role in the study of the Tibetan language and Tibetan Buddhist texts. The contributions of the main part of the conference were studies of Tibet, India and Central Asia. They covered several areas of humanitarian knowledge: philology, linguistics, history, art history, philosophy, religious studies. All of them were united by a common theme "Text and cultural space. Ancient and medieval India and Central Asia" and in one way or another were associated with the study of the worldview and cultural interactions of the studied regions.

Abstract:
The name of the prominent scholar Yurii Mezhenko is not commonly associated with the achievements of Franko studies. However, the figure of Ivan Franko was within the scope of Mezhenko’s professional interests, as evidenced by the bibliography of his research, diary entries, and letters. Mezhenko’s most significant contribution to Franko studies is an index to the literary, artistic, social, and political journal “Life and Word” (“Zhytie i Slovo”), which was published from 1894 to 1897 under the editorship of Ivan Franko. This index, co-authored with Yaroslav Dashkevych, has remained unpublished. Halyna Svarnyk and Nadiya Strishenets mentioned Mezhenko’s work on it, but the detailed history of its preparation has never been the subject of a scholarly research. This study is based on Yu. Mezhenko’s published correspondence and archival materials from the collections of Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Central State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art of Ukraine. The research employs various methods, including source analysis, textual analysis, historical and literary analysis. By examining the published correspondence and archival materials, the study reconstructs the sequence of events and uncovers the reasons behind the project’s failure. The idea for this work originated with Yu. Mezhenko in 1958. After being invited to collaborate, Ya. Dashkevych helped in uncovering pseudonyms and cryptonyms and wrote an introductory article. Thus, as Yu. Mezhenko emphasized, it was a joint project. The index was intended for publication in the journal “Soviet Literary Studies” (“Radianske literaturoznavstvo”), but the plan was not realized. Efforts to publish it in the Lviv yearbook “Ivan Franko” were also unsuccessful. The manuscript of the work is now preserved in the archival collection of Yurii Mezhenko. A systematic index to the contents of “Zhytie i Slovo,” compiled by Petro Babiak and edited by Mykhailo Humeniuk, was eventually published in 1968.

Abstract:
The subject of this article is the study of the phenomenon homo soveticus in the West (C. Friedrich, Z. Brzezinski, S. Fitzpatrick, S. Kotkin, A. Yurchak and others) and in Russia by sociologist Yuri Levada since the 1980s; by social anthropologist Natalia Kozlova in the late 1990s, and from the early 2000s to the present by historians and literary scholars from Russian cities (Yekaterinburg, Voronezh, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Tiumen, Krasnodar, Moscow) and from Hungary and Poland, whose work is published in an interdisciplinary collective monograph by Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg) in 2021. The authors of the monograph belong to different generations and national humanities’ schools, but they are united by a common historical memory, by an approach to homo soveticus as a multiform, not monolithic phenomenon. The personality typology of the 1930s is not identical to that of the 1960s, 1970s, or 1980s, and Soviet rule, despite all its might, could not completely control and subjugate people of the USSR — not only because the country was very large and diverse, but mainly because the ideology and politics of this rule contradicted life. The monograph opens new perspectives on an original, holistic approach to the study of the homo soveticus phenomenon, which includes its versions in the countries of Eastern Europe, as well as its perception by Russian emigrants.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the scientific heritage and idiostyle of the famous Ukrainian linguist, lexicologist and phraseologist L.A. Yurchuk, whose 100-year anniversary was celebrated in 2023. The work of the researcher contributed to raising the level of derivatology, morphology, lexicology, lexicography and phraseology of the Ukrainian language. The works of L.A. Yurchuk on phraseology and phraseography defined the theoretical foundations and formed the benchmark for the practice of phraseography in modern Ukrainian linguistics. The views of the scientist significantly influenced the parameters of the norm of the new Ukrainian literary language at the end of the 20th century, since the linguist, in co-authorship with other lexicographers, compiled translation and explanatory academic dictionaries that are significant for Ukrainian linguistics. The legacy of L.A. Yurchuk consists of scientific articles devoted to various aspects of the study of word formation, vocabulary and phraseology of the Ukrainian language as well as instructions for compiling dictionaries, prefaces to lexicographic (phraseographic) works, a one-person monograph «Issues of suffix word formation of verbs in the modern Ukrainian language» (1959). The researcher, working as part of the team of the department of lexicology and lexicography of the О.О. Potebnia Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (since 1991 this division has been part of the newly created Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine), co-authored the “Ukrainian-Russian Dictionary” in six volumes (1953–1963), the “Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language” in eleven volumes (1970–1980), “Phraseological dictionary of the Ukrainian language” in two books (1993) etc. These editions had a significant impact on the codification of the new Ukrainian literary language and to a large extent created its modern image. In the mentioned works L.A. Yurchuk realized her views on the lexicographic and phraseographic description of the Ukrainian language. The work of the linguist became one of the most notable achievements of Ukrainian academic linguistics of the second half of the 20th century. Keywords: derivatology, morphology, lexicology, lexicography, phraseology, phraseography, new Ukrainian literary language, normalization, codification, L.A. Yurchuk.

Abstract:
The article presents information on the geology of the Verkhne-Timptonsky gold placer region, within which the Yurskoe placer deposit is located. A brief description of gold placers in the Yurski Stream basin is presented based on geological exploration results. Typomorphic features of native gold from the valley placer of the Yurski Stream were studied. Based on the studies, two types of the native gold were identified, that were related to different primary sources. The high-fineness gold of type I represents residual gold that entered the placer from Precambrian gold-bearing diaphthorites and from fissured weathering crusts in the diaphthorites. The medium- to low-fineness gold of type II of a low-temperature hydrothermal genesis entered the placer from Mesozoic volcanogenic molasse sequences. The question of whether these deposits are an intermediate collector for fragments of earlier gold mineralization, or there was a superposition of a late low-temperature mineralization, remains open. The prospects for identifying economically significant ore objects of various genetic types in the Yurski Stream basin are assessed

Presnyakov believed that, after Dmitrii’s death, the relations between Vasilii and Yurii, the second eldest brother, started getting worth. This is not corroborated by sources: until the death of Vasilii in 1425, Yurii always followed and supported him. However, after 1425, the rivalrt between Yurii and Vasilii I’ son, Vasilii II, started and lasted several years. Yurii finally became great prince of Moscow but soon died, on the 5th June, 1434.
