Abstract:

The goal of psychotherapy and Biblical counselling is to change undesirable cognition, affect, and behaviour in the counselee. For the Biblical counsellor change entails more than mere behaviour change. He endeavours to facilitate inner Biblical change where the counselee can grow spiritually through sanctification by the power of the Holy Spirit. Change should occur from the inside and result in Godly living. The central theoretical argument is that pastoral counselling portrays certain unique features that can be used to bring about change in the core of the counselee's being, renewing the mind sufficiently to walk in holiness. The aim is to establish whether pastoral counselling can be used effectively to help the counselee change in his conscious direction to walk in holiness. The first objective was to establish what Scriptural perspectives exist on change. When the believer is set free from the law sin and death, the effect of sin remains. Sinful patterns have been habituated into his thinking and behaviour. Every Christian has to deal with unbiblical beliefs and behaviour which are not easily overcome. Although problems do not disappear at regeneration, God through His Spirit equips the believer to handle them, providing the necessary resources, directions, and power for the change He commands. The Christian life is not static; it is a life that is characterized by change. In the basis-theoretical perspective it has been established that change that is pleasing to God involves the repudiation of the former "old man" and the assumption of the "new man". The believer is also challenged to be transformed by the renewing of his mind. This Scriptural understanding of change is addressed in the epistles of Paul (Ep. 4:22-24; Col. 3:8-10; Ro. 12:l-2). The uniqueness of Biblical counselling and the different perspectives were explored in this study. The exposition of inner change in the life of the counselee rendered important information. If the counsellor ignores what is happening on the inside of the individual, he will be unable to help him change his overt behaviour in any meaningful way. The second objective was to explore what other relevant disciplines had to contribute to the issue of change. The meta-theoretical perspective on change established that psychology is concerned with changing undesirable behaviour, cognitions, and affect. Knowledge of mental processes are important because the mind represents that which needs to be changed. The psychoanalytic, behavioural-cognitive, and person-centred approaches concerning change were expounded. According to answers given in the research of this study, Biblical perspectives included the use of Christian values and spiritual disciplines (use of Scripture, prayer). In most instances counselling included the use of secular perspectives using the Word of God as a foundation from which they derived their own models. It has been indicated that theology and psychology can complement each other, each contributing to a better understanding of the complexities of human nature. The third objective was accomplished by utilizing the basis- and meta-theoretical perspectives in a hermeneutical interaction to formulate a model of change that can be proposed for pastoral counselling.<br>Thesis (Ph.D. (Practical Theology))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2004.

Ce travail porte sur la relation d'Henri Fournier - le futur Alain Fournier - et d'Yvonne de Quiévrecourt, l'inspiratrice du personnage d'Yvonne de Galais. Il inclut un réexamen de certaines données biographiques et s'organise autour d'un thème principal: le tourment amoureux vécu par le futur écrivain n'est pas vraiment subi, il est aussi plus ou moins consciemment recherché comme ferment de l'inspiration littéraire et, plus largement, comme facteur d'épanouissement et d'accès à une véritable maturité. La fixation sur une figure féminine préservée par la distance permet, en effet, à Fournier de dépasser sa vision partiellement négative du couple, vision née dans l'enfance et liée à son expérience familiale. Ce cheminement positif s'accomplit principalement par le biais de l'œuvre littéraire. Dans le Grand Meaulnes, en particulier, les figures paternelle et masculine sont revalorisées et l'image du couple sort renforcée des épreuves subies et affrontées.

Abstract:

Yvonne Desportes (1907-1993) was an influential female composer, teacher, and music theorist. Her early success as a recipient of the Prix de Rome for composition (1932) marked the beginning of her distinguished career in music culminating in a 35-year professorship at the Paris Conservatory. Despite the relative obscurity of her music, Desportes was a prolific composer and published numerous works for clarinet quartet. This dissertation seeks to promote the clarinet music of Yvonne Desportes through a pedagogical examination of her clarinet quartets. The equitable parts and quality of Desportes' compositional style allow her clarinet quartets to be effective teaching tools for the development of fundamental clarinet skills relating to tone, technique, and musical style.

A ficção é o veículo utilizado por ela para articular a experiência feminina reprimida e silenciada em seu país. Vera nos apresenta a sociedade zimbabuense, sob o olhar das mulheres, ou seja, é através de personagens femininas, acompanhadas por narradores provavelmente do mesmo sexo, que vivenciamos seus enredos e tramas. A escrita de Vera surge da necessidade de inverter as estruturas da opressão e dos estereótipos coloniais impostos às mulheres negras, o que reforça seu papel como uma escritora com ideais feministas. Em Without a name (1994), romance que analisamos nesta pesquisa, ela narra a trajetória de Mazvita, uma mulher que resiste a diversos tipos de violência, como, por exemplo, o estupro. Mazvita tenta superar o trauma e buscar um futuro melhor para si, mas é possível perceber a impossibilidade de esperança num cenário repleto de desolação causado pela guerra de libertação e pela opressão patriarcal africana. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a construção da resistência feminina nesse romance por meio da investigação da fragmentação corporal da personagem. Pretendemos estabelecer relações entre suas possibilidades de reação e agência e o estado alquebrado de seu corpo, ao mesmo tempo em que buscamos tecer considerações a respeito de suas conexões com o corpo social de sua coletividade. Também examinamos os modos como o feminismo africano é articulado nessa obra. Ao final de nossa análise, concluímos que, nesse romance, Vera elabora uma narrativa de aniquilação, retratando as tentativas de resistência e de superação da personagem como arruinadas em paralelismo com a debilitação de seu corpo e a desesperança do cenário em que está inserida.<br>Yvonne Vera is one of Africa’s most outstanding novelists in the international scene of the English language literature. Fiction is the vehicle used by her to articulate female experience repressed and silenced in her country. Vera portrays Zimbabwean society through women’s perspective, usually employing female narrators to tell her female characters’ stories. Vera’s writing arises from the need to reverse the structures of oppression and colonial stereotypes imposed on black women, reinforcing her role as a writer with feminist ideals. In Without a name (1994), the novel that is analyzed in this study, Vera brings the story of Mazvita, a woman who resists many types of violence, such as rape. Mazvita tries to overcome the trauma and seek a better future for her, but it is possible to realize the impossibility of hope in a world full of desolation caused by the war of liberation and African patriarchal oppression. The objective of this paper is to analyze the construction of female resistance in the novel through the investigation of the character’s body fragmentation. Some relationships between her possibilities of agency and reaction and the broken state of her body are also established in the current analysis. Similarly her connections with the social body of her community, as well as the ways in which African feminism is portrayed in this novel, also come under scrutiny. At the end of the analysis, it is possible to imply that Vera elaborates a narrative of annihilation in this novel, depicting the character’s attempts of resistance and overcoming as ruined in parallel with the weakening of her body and the hopelessness of her setting.

Incribed in the African literature written in English, her works are well known and studied internationally, and they have been translated into many idioms such as Spanish, French, Italian and German. However, this work is not very known in Brazil. Therefore, this study observe the author´s treatment of cultural, social, political and gender questions, in a period that comprehend almost a century of the Zimbabwean history, since the intensification of the colonizer occupation and the First Chimurenga (the liberation movement) until the period after the Second Chimurenga (the war for indepence), after 1980. The main focus of the dissertation is the study of the feminine representation in Vera s work, as it appear in her short-story collection Why Don t You Carve Other Animals? (1993), and in her novels Nehanda (1993), Without a Name (1994), Under the Tongue (1996), Butterfly Burning (1998), The Stone Virgins (2002): the construction of the feminine identity, the struggle for women´s emancipation, the position of women in the colonial society and in the fight for the liberation of the country from the colonial Power, as well as the difference introduced by the independence of the country in the lives of Zimbawean women.<br>O objetivo desta pesquisa e da dissertação dela resultante é a análise da obra ficcional de Yvone Vera, proeminente escritora do Zimbábue. Inscritos na literatura africana de língua inglesa, seus trabalhos são bem divulgados e estudados internacionalmente, contando com traduções em diversos idiomas como o espanhol, o francês, o italiano e o alemão. Todavia, essa obra é ainda pouco difundida no Brasil. Assim, este estudo observa o tratamento dado pela autora às questões culturais, sócio-políticas e de gênero, num período que cobre praticamente um século da história do Zimbábue, desde a intensificação da ocupação colonizadora e a Primeira Chimurenga (movimento de libertação) até o período posterior à Segunda Chimurenga (guerra pela independência), depois de 1980. O foco principal da dissertação é o estudo da representação do feminino na obra de Vera, tal como aparece na coletânea de contos Why Don t You Carve Other Animals? (1992) e nos romances Nehanda (1993), Without a Name (1994), Under the Tongue (1996), Butterfly Burning (1998), The Stone Virgins (2002): a construção da identidade feminina, a luta pela emancipação da mulher na sociedade colonial e na luta pela libertação do país do poder colonial, assim como a diferença introduzida pela independência na vida das mulheres do Zimbábue.

Cette thèse entend interroger les œuvres chantées de deux interprètes de la chanson française de l’Entre-deux-guerres : Fréhel (1891-1951), l’une des meilleures représentantes de la chanson dite réaliste, et la très oubliée Yvonne George (1895-1930), adulée de l’intelligentsia parisienne du milieu des années vingt. Dans cette période nuancée (des années folles aux années trente), ces deux interprètes apparaissent elles-mêmes comme des figures de contraste pour la chanson réaliste française. Fréhel, en digne héritière de Bruant, s’impose comme le porte-voix d’un collectif de la marge, tout autant qu’elle incarne une voix féminine dolente et résignée, que le public aime a superposer avec sa propre personne, d’autant mieux que le cinéma des années trente en relaie l’image. Elle est aussi la figure d’un monde révolu : celui de la Belle Epoque. Quant à Yvonne George, son côté avant-gardiste et éclectique, confère à la chanson réaliste une nouvelle dimension novatrice. La subversion s’installe dans son univers, non plus dans les images convoquées mais dans le contenu du discours véhiculé : la prostituée n’est plus une victime passive mais au contraire, l’agent du malheur qu’elle revendique. Les choix d’interprétation audacieux d’Yvonne George, couplés à une maitrise parfaite du parlé-chanté, contribuent aussi à ce renouvellement, encore assuré par des collaborations musicales ou orchestrales avant-gardistes. Aussi, l’enjeu de ce travail a-t-il consisté à montrer en quoi Fréhel et Yvonne George purent toutes deux incarner la chanson réaliste dans sa pleine diversité et apparaître comme ses meilleures muses<br>Our thesis examines songs by two performers of the popular French song during the inter-war period : Fréhel, one of the best representatives of the song we call ≪ realistic ≫, and the very-much forgotten Yvonne George, adored by Parisian intelligentsia in the mid-twenties. In this slightly different period (the roaring twenties to the thirties), these two performers appear as contrasted figures in the French ≪ realist song ≫. Fréhel, a worthy successor to Bruant has become the voice of a collective margin, as well as embodying a resigned, plaintive female voice, that the public likes to project on her, especially as the cinema of the thirties relieve this projection. As for boyish Yvonne George, her avant-garde and eclectic side, gives the song an innovative new realistic dimension. Subversion settles into her world, not conveyed by the images but by the content of the spoken text (the prostitute is no longer a passive victim but rather the agent of her own misfortune, that she has chosen for herself). Yvonne George’s choice to portray this boldly, coupled with a perfect command of spoken-songs, also contribute to this revival, accompanied by avant-gardist musical and orchestral collaborations. By means of a comparative study of songs sung by these two contrasting performers, this thesis shows how Fréhel like Yvonne George can both portray realist songs in their full diversity and appear both "traditional" muse and "avant-garde" muse
