Four years before the suppression of male religious orders in Mexico (1859) the Minister of Justice and Ecclesiastical Affairs, Ezequiel Montes, asked the provincials to inform him on the number of friars, their activities and their monasteries' properties (December 22, 1855). The data, which began arriving to the Minister in January 1856, provides some of the most complete information on the nineteenth century Franciscans in Mexico. Comparing this data with what is available for the end of eighteenth century we can draw the following comparative table.A quick glance at these figures reveals t

Childhood obesity and children being overweight has increased recently; although they are multi-causal problems, an unhealthy diet is a critical component. In Mexico, drinking water consumption in children from 9 to 18 years only reaches 30% of total fluid consumption. The aim of our study was to describe the social representations (SR) of drinking water in school-children and parents of two schools in Zapopan, Mexico. Associative free listing was used as an information gathering technique. Schoolchildren aged 8 to 12 years (n = 50) and parents (n = 23) from two elementary schools were selecte

The presence of fossil arthropods with a very good preservation is recorded in a locality in Jalisco, Mexico. The specimens were collected from lacustrine sediments formed during the early Pliocene (Zanclian), which have their origin in the accumulation of volcanic sedimentary material in a body of water, formed after the flooding of a collapsed volcanic caldera. The locality is in Sierra de Tesistán, in the municipality of Zapopan, Jalisco. Twelve fossil specimens were identified, which were collected between 2017 and 2019, resulting in the presence of arthropods of the Insecta and Arachnida

Lake Zapotlán is a small (1100 ha) endorheic lake in western Mexico that is internationally recognized by RAMSAR. It receives point source pollution from partially treated sewage from two surrounding cities, as well as non-point sources, including urban runoff, agricultural runoff, erosion and consequent deposition of sediment as a result of deforestation surrounding the Lake. The purpose of this study was to determine the severity of pollution in the Lake through measurement of nutrient and bacteria levels and assess for potential human health and ecological risks in Lake Zapotlán.
