Abstract:
In the horticultural zone in Zapotitán, the tomato crop is affected by several diseases, but more heavily by those of fungal origin, among which stabd out the early blight (A. solani) and late blight (P. infestans). The trial was conducted at the San Andres Experiment Station, located at 450 masl average temperature of 23,8°C, a relative humidity of 36% and the soil pH of 6.3 to determine the effect of the corn plant as a living barrier. A split-plot, complete randomized block experimental design with four replications was used. Nine treatments were evaluated, divided in area of 3496 m2. were the large plts were the intercropping times and the useful area. The parameters evaluated were: severity of both pathogens and number of infested plants, tomato’s plant height, number of fruits and yield. Apartial budget analysis was conducted. The tomato crop responded favorably to the corn intercropping, lowering the incidence of A.solani and P. infestans. the corn intercropping planted 20 days before trasplanting and every three rows of tomato showed a lower severity of both pathogens, lower number of infested plants and registered the largest height of the tomato plants, which was ovrious be cause of the low severity when compared to the other treatments. The same treatment produced the largest number of fruits, yielding 22.687 kg/ha, being superior to the remaining treatments which fluctuated around 19.000 kg/ha. The analysis of the partial budget showed anet benefit, with the corn treatment 20 days before trasplanting and every three rows of tomato, of ¢ 8.500 which is higher to the benefits produced with the other treatments.

Abstract:
The intellectual, artistic, and architectural accomplishments of Maya elites during the Classic period were extraordinary, and evidence of elite activities has preserved well in the archaeological record. A centuries-long research focus on elites has understandably fostered the view that they controlled the economy, politics, and religion of Maya civilization. While there has been significant progress in household archaeology, unfortunately the activities, decisions, and interactions of commoners generally preserve poorly in the archaeological record. Therefore, it has been challenging to understand the sociopolitical economy of commoners, and how it related—or did not relate—to elite authority. The exceptional volcanic preservation of the site of Cerén, El Salvador, provides a unique opportunity to explore the degree to which elites controlled or influenced commoner life. Was society organized in a top-down hierarchy in which elites controlled everything? Or did commoners have autonomy, and thus the authority to decide quotidian, seasonal, and annual issues within the village? Or was there a mixture of different loci of authority within the village and the region? Research at Cerén is beginning to shed some light on the sociopolitical economy within the community and in relation to elites in the Zapotitan valley. A domain in which there was considerable commoner-elite interaction in the Cerén area was the marketplace. Elites and their attached specialists provided products, and commoners decided which marketplace they would attend to exchange their items. Evidence from Cerén also suggests that there were numerous other domains of authority within the community that had no detectable control or influence from outside. For instance, people in the village decided what crafts or specialized agricultural products to produce as surplus to be exchanged within the community for different products from other households. Cerén community members acted independently as individuals, as households, or in other domains within the community. Understanding the multiple layers of authority at Cerén sheds light on the sociopolitical organization in one non-elite Classic period Maya community.

Este trabajo centra su interés en la difícil situación económica y social que sufrieron los campesinos arrendatarios del valle de Zapotitán, en el contexto del proyecto de repartición de propiedades del general Maximiliano Hernández Martínez. Partiendo de las premisas de la historia social que tiene como sujeto de análisis a la sociedad en su conjunto y a las figuras individuales, que para el caso de interés serían los sectores subalternos, es decir los arrendatarios beneficiados con propiedades en Zapotitán. Por tanto lo que se pretende entender es cómo los procesos históricos, sociales, culturales regionales o nacionales afectan los entornos locales, que en este caso sería el proyecto mal llamado reforma agraria del general Martínez y su impronta en los campesinos del Valle de Zapotitán.

Abstract:
Se compararon 5 atributos poblacionales del grillo arborícola Oecanthus fultoni (estructura, densidad, abundancia, proporción sexual y densidad de machos) en 2 localidades del centro de México con matorral xerófilo. Se contaron directamente los ejemplares posados sobre las plantas y los machos adultos mediante detección auditiva. En Zapotitlán Salinas, Puebla se muestrearon los grillos en el día y en el Pedregal de San Ángel, Ciudad de México en la noche. La especie estuvo presente durante todo el año en ambos sitios y registró 5 estadios ninfales. La población de Zapotitlán fue multivoltina y la del Pedregal univoltina. La densidad promedio de grillos fue más alta en el Pedregal (652.0 ± 0.2 ind./ha) que en Zapotitlán (50.4 ± 0.2 ind./ha); la proporción sexual fue 1 macho:1.2 hembras en Zapotitlán, mientras que en el Pedregal fue de 6.1:1. En Zapotitlán se registró una densidad de machos significativamente menor (83.41 ± 5.3 ind./ha) en comparación con la del Pedregal (153.75 ± 9.1 ind./ha); en ambas localidades la densidad de machos estuvo correlacionada negativamente con los valores de precipitación acumulada mensual. Nuestros resultados resaltan la importancia de la estacionalidad en las variaciones poblacionales de los grillos.

Abstract:
This article investigates the role that community media play in the translocal negotiation of local culture in Latin America. Translocal is a concept that captures the way that local cultural producers engage with national and transnational forces in shaping everyday cultural practices. This study focuses on community radio station Ecos de Manantlán in Zapotitlán de Vadillo, Mexico (Radio Zapotitlán), during the years 2006–2012. Radio Zapotitlán is officially categorized as a campesino or agricultural laborer/peasant station and presents its campesino identity through radio and Internet content. Analyses of that content, along with interviews with station associates and listeners, reveal the complex cultural mediations between local media producers, national regulators, and transnational donors. This study investigates the local production of a transnationally funded radionovela, or radio soap opera, as a window onto the station’s role as a cultural mediator. This article argues that station participants used the radionovela to express local values and meanings and to marginalize the educational goals of the transnational agency funding the project. Radio Zapotitlán offers a concrete case of cultural negotiation in which local interests engage with – and transform – donor-funded content aimed at the local community.

Abstract:
The use of plants as traditional medicines is common and has prevailed in many different cultures over time. Polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) are natural polyphenols from the group of flavonoids. Zapotin, a member of the PMFs, is found mainly in citrus plants and is almost exclusively limited to their peels. The chemical structure of zapotin has been questioned from the very beginning, since the structure of flavonoids with a single oxygen atom in the C2′ position is extremely rare in the plant kingdom. To clarify this, the structural determination and bio-inspired synthesis of zapotin are discussed in detail in this review. Due to the broad biological potential of PMFs, the complication in the isolation process and characterization of PMFs, as well as their purification, have been estimated by adapting various chromatographic methods. According to available data from the literature, zapotin may be a promising curative agent with extensive biological activities, especially as a chemopreventive factor. Apart from that, zapotin acts as an antidepressant-like, anticancer, antifungal, and antioxidant agent. Finally, accessible studies about zapotin metabolism (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity) underline its potential in use as a therapeutic substance.

Abstract:
En este trabajo se documenta el papel y potencial de los recursos vegetales de Zapotitlán Salinas, Puebla, una comunidad de origen popoloca, ubicada en la porción más árida del Valle de Tehuacán-Cuicatlán. En total, se encontraron 298 especies divididas en 82 familias, y se presenta información etnobotánica de 288 especies pertenecientes a 219 géneros y 79 familias, cuyos usos se ubican en 19 categorías. De ellas, 164 prosperan en las distintas comunidades vegetales naturales de la zona y en algunas de las áreas transformadas, mientras que 124 se encuentran de manera exclusiva en los huertos. Las familias con mayor número de especies útiles fueron Poaceae (35 spp.), Cactaceae (24 spp.) y Asteraceae (23 spp.). En cuanto a las formas de vida, la mayor parte (162 spp.) son las herbáceas, seguida de los arbustos (86 spp.) y los árboles (41 spp.). El trabajo incluye información acerca de la disponibilidad espacial y temporal de las especies útiles, así como también de la importancia relativa de las de mayor interés para la población local, como son las combustibles, las medicinales, las alimenticias y las forrajeras.

Abstract:
Archaeologists have long labored under the implicit assumption that the archaeological record is a direct reflection of past human behaviors. However, numerous cultural and environmental processes intervene between past behaviors and their reconstruction through archaeological inference. This study examines the interface between household archaeology and formation processes through the study of domestic materials from two contemporaneous sites in the Zapotitan Valley of El Salvador that were occupied by people who spoke the same language and belonged to the same regional political system. Ceren was a small village that was occupied for several decades before it was deeply buried by the eruption of Loma Caldera volcano. San Andres was a much larger center that also was affected by several eruptions, but did not experience long-term catastrophic abandonment or exceptional preservation. The research examines the effects of cultural formation processes, including reuse, discard, abandonment, and post-abandonment disturbance processes, and non-cultural formation processes, such as effects of catastrophic volcanic burial, and the effects of plants and animals. It compares the de facto refuse from Ceren with discarded materials from Ceren, and San Andres using the discard equation and methods developed in accumulations research to build a foundation for more generally applicable models to interpret household remains in western El Salvador and throughout Mesoamerica.

Abstract:
El Turismo se ha posicionado en los últimos años como una actividad económica importante a nivel mundial, en el caso de México, se debe a sus riquezas culturales y naturales, ocupa el sexto lugar en recepción de turistas a nivel internacional, teniendo un ingreso de 15,379.7 millones de dólares (CNET, 2018). Debido al incremento en la demanda día a día, se ha ido diversificando el producto que se ofrece, creando una gran variedad de rubros y destinos para realizar una misma actividad, turismo. Entre los diferentes tipos de turismo, se encuentra el turismo de naturaleza, el cual pretende que los agentes involucrados (turista, prestador de servicio, inversionista y comunidad receptora) tengan la finalidad de enseñar a los visitantes y turistas a preservar, cuidar y respetar los recursos naturales. A partir de esta modalidad de turismo, han emergido emprendimientos por parte de las comunidades receptoras, desde la gestión hasta la operación de los mismos. Para mantener un nivel de calidad en el servicio que se otorga en estos nuevos proyectos, existen una serie de manuales con estándares de servicio y operación adecuados a cada tipo y nivel de servicio, tal es el caso del manual de operaciones el cual norma las funciones administrativas y operativas, creando responsabilidades, evita duplicidades y optimizando el servicio. Sin embrago, para crear dicho instrumento es fundamental la aplicación de conocimientos de expertos, tal es el caso del licenciado en Turismo, quien puede ayudar a emprendedores en la creación y gestión de herramientas que les permitan desempeñar una mejor función y otorgar un mejor servicio. Por ello, el objetivo de este trabajo de aplicación de conocimientos fue elaborar un instrumento que norme las funciones administrativas y operativas para crear responsabilidades, evitar duplicidades y optimizar el servicio en Jardín Botánico Helia Bravo Hollis, ubicado en Puebla, México, para de esta manera aplicar los conocimientos adquiridos durante la carrera. Bajo un enfoque cualitativo, utilizando herramientas como la observación participativa, taller participativo y entrevistas a profundidad, se tienen resultados concretos para dar solución a los conflictos encontrados en coordinación con la comunidad receptora. Como principal resultado, se propone un manual que pueda permitir cambios en los procesos existentes, desde la manera de selección así como las capacitaciones del personal de nuevo ingreso. Observando dichos resultados mediante la ejecución de los procesos tanto operativos como administrativos.
