AbstractThe citrus mealybug, Planococcus citri, is a highly destructive pest of citrus, occurring only in the aerial parts of plants. Humidity will be one of the key factors to consider when using entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) as biological control agents. Different adjuvants can be added to suspensions of EPNs, to improve control as a foliar application. An aqueous suspension containing Heterorhabditis zealandica and 0.3% Zeba® significantly increased P.citri mortality by 22% at 80% relative humidity (RH) with a temperature cycle starting at 22°C for 14 h and 11°C for 11 h. The same polymer formulation was tested for Steinernema yirgalemense and mortality of P. citri increased by 21% at 60% RH and by 27% at 80% RH. The addition of Nu-Film-P® and Zeba® to H. zealandica suspensions did not significantly retard application run-off on citrus leaves. The combination of Nu-Film-P® and Zeba®, however, was able to significantly retard sedimentation, increasing the average number of nematodes deposited on 2-cm2 leaf discs by 10 nematodes. In an aqueous suspension, nematodes settle rapidly to the bottom, resulting in an uneven distribution of nematodes. Xanthan gum, at a concentration of 0.2%, was highly effective at retarding sedimentation, with 72% of the initial nematode number still in suspension after 1 h. Zeba®, at a concentration of 0.3%, despite not being as effective as Xanthan gum, nevertheless still retarded sedimentation significantly. This is the first report of the potential of Nu-Film-P® and Zeba® to improve EPN performance against P. citri when used above ground in citrus orchards.

Abstract:
We fabricated a nanofiltration membrane consisting of a polyaniline (PANI) film on a polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) substrate membrane. The PANI film acted as a potent separation enhancer and antimicrobial coating. The membrane was analyzed via scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy to examine its morphology, topography, contact angle, and zeta potential. We aimed to investigate the impact of the PANI film on the surface properties of the membrane. Membrane performance was then evaluated in terms of water permeation and rejection of methylene blue (MB), an organic dye. Coating the PPSU membrane with a PANI film imparted significant advantages, including finely tuned nanometer-scale membrane pores and tailored surface properties, including increased hydrophilicity and zeta potential. The PANI film also significantly enhanced separation of the MB dye. The PANI-coated membrane rejected over 90% of MB with little compromise in membrane permeability. The PANI film also enhanced the antimicrobial activity of the membrane. The bacteriostasis (BR) values of PANI-coated PPSU membranes after six and sixteen hours of incubation with Escherichia coli were 63.5% and 95.2%, respectively. The BR values of PANI-coated PPSU membranes after six and sixteen hours of incubation with Staphylococcus aureus were 70.6% and 88.0%, respectively.

The wetting film evolution process is essential for flotation, especially in bubble–particle attachment. A mixed collector has been proved effective in promoting flotation. In this paper, the effect of a mixed collector (MC) composed by n-dodecane (D) and oleic acid (OA) on wetting film evolution was investigated using the extended Derjagin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek (EDLVO) theory, the Stefan–Reynolds model, induction time, and zeta potential measurement. The hydrophobic force constant between bubble and coal treated by different collectors was analyzed. The results showed that MC was superior in reducing the induction time and increasing the zeta potential. When bubbles interacted with coal treated by MC, they had relatively low interaction energy, high critical film thickness, and high drainage rate. The order of hydrophobic force constant was no reagent < D < OA < MC. It indicated that the hydrophobic interaction between bubbles and coal particles treated by MC was the strongest because of the synergistic effect of D and OA.

Abstract:
The present study was carried out to analyze the performance of an anti-corrosion coating obtained from Carica Papaya extract and PMMA polymer applied on mild steel. This combination was characterized by using FTIR, XRD, Zeta potential measurements and thermogravimetric methods and the presence of major constituents in papaya extract was identified with the functional groups and hetero atoms which able to forms a passive film on the metal surface and protects mild steel from corrosion. These results were verified by visual observation and gravimetric method and then confirmed by electrochemical studies such as Tafel and AC impedance studies. Cyclic voltammetry result study showed that papaya extract confers electroactive property to the polymer. Zeta potential and contact angle measurements of this extract and coating material reinforce protection against corrosion due to high potential& more interfacial tension of the metal surface and hydrophobic nature of film, which repulse the water drops on metal surface, thus giving more adherent, non-porous film.

Abstract:
This study concentrates on the impact of firm specific determinants on financial performance in the power industry. The firm specific determinants used in this study as independent variables were capital structure, firm size and liquidity whilst ROA, ROI and profitability were used as proxies of financial performance. Modigliani and Miller (1958) argue that capital structure has no impact on financial performance whilst the Trade-off theory suggests that the ideal capital structure that helps firm remain financially healthy is the trade-off between cost of leverage and the advantages of debt. Beyond that trade-off point, a firm will start making losses. The target population included 60 employees from all the 5 subsidiaries of the Holding company and researchers used 40 respondents as sample size to enhance reliability. A relationship was established between firm specific determinants and financial performance as measured by ROA, ROI and profitability. The results showed a negative but significant relationship between capital structure and financial performance and they support the pecking order theory which suggests that capital structure is a significant determinant of financial performance. Firm size and financial performance were also negatively related. However, a significant positive relationship was established between liquidity and financial performance. From the findings the researchers concluded that firm specific factors have a significant impact on financial performance. Researchers therefore recommend that ZESA holdings should use its internal funds such as retained earnings and more equity than debt when financing its activities so as to reduce leverage costs which lead to poor performance.

Quality changes of supersweet corn (Zea mays L.) were monitored during storage at 1, 4, or 10C, unwrapped or wrapped in stretch or shrink film. Film-wrapping maintained freshness and reduced moisture loss better than lack of wrapping. Wrapping in shrink film resulted in lower O2 and higher CO2 concentrations within packages than wrapping with stretch film. Film-wrapping in shrink film maintained total soluble solids content better than stretch-wrapping or no wrapping.

Fearn and Liu (1995) reported positive identification of a large Poaceae pollen grain recovered from a lake bed core in Alabama dating to 3500 B.P. as Zea mays. Reinterpretation of old data and new data reported here indicate this identification is questionable. Review of the evidence at hand indicates the most likely identification of the pollen grain in question is Tripsacum, although it could be primitive maize, teosinte, or Zea “indiana,” a hybrid between Tripsacum and teosinte. Until the sample size is expanded and a firm identification can be made, caution is urged in interpretations about the significance of this find for early maize agriculture in eastern North America.

The experiments were conducted in a randomized complete block design with factorial arrangement 2 x 8 x 5 and four replications. The treatments were defined by eight maize varieties in two ecosystems and five harvest times during different stages of maturation. Variables were evaluated for agronomic and sensory characteristics as well as aspects of marketing. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and means were compared by Duncan test at 5% probability. In upland and lowland cultivars was no significant difference by F test at 5% probability, for productivity. The plant stand is presented in greater variety (BR 5110) 56875 pl ha-1 and lower in the hybrid (HTMV1) 43,611 pl ha-1 on land. In the lowland hybrid (HTMV1) had the lowest stand with 47,709 pl ha-1 and variety (BR 5110) with the largest booth 72,292 pl ha-1. The length of the spikes differed statistically by F test at 5% probability on firm ground, and the varieties (and Saracura Cativerde) at greater length 17.81 cm and 16.09, respectively. The number of commercial ears was significant by F test at 5% probability on firm ground, and the hybrids (AG 1051 and HTMV1) had the highest and lowest numbers of spikes 42,708 and 34,167, respectively. Floodplain, the results did not differ by F test at 5% probability, as the sweetness and texture. As for brix, tenderness, flavor and color differ statistically by F test at 5% probability. On land, the results were statistically different as to color and brix. The corn is an excellent crop for the state of Amazonas, which can be grown in lowland ecosystems and land, with options to use varieties and hybrids according to the technological level of the farmer.<br>O trabalho objetivou avaliar o comportamento de oito cultivares de milho com características para consumo no estádio verde de maturação e verificar a adaptabilidade aos ecossistemas de terra firme e várzea nas condições edafoclimáticas dos municípios de Manaus e Iranduba no Estado do Amazonas. Os experimentos foram conduzidos no delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados com arranjo fatorial 8 x 2 x 5 e quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram definidos por oito cultivares de milho, em dois ecossistemas e cinco épocas de colheita realizadas em diferentes estádios de maturação. Foram avaliadas variáveis de aspectos agronômicos e organolépticos, bem como aspectos de características mercadológicas. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias dos tratamentos comparadas pelo teste de Duncan a 5% de probabilidade. Em terra firme e várzea, as cultivares não apresentou diferenças significativas pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade, quanto à produtividade. O estande de plantas apresentou-se maior na variedade (BR 5110) 56.875 pl ha-1 e menor no híbrido (HTMV1) 43.611 pl ha-1 em terra firme. Na várzea o híbrido (HTMV1) apresentou o menor estande com 47.709 pl ha-1 e a variedade (BR 5110) o maior estande com 72.292 pl ha-1. O comprimento das espigas diferiu estatisticamente pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade em terra firme, sendo as variedades (Saracura e Cativerde) com maior e menor comprimento 17,81 e 16,09 cm, respectivamente. O número de espigas comerciais foi significativo pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade em terra firme, sendo que os híbridos (AG 1051 e HTMV1) apresentaram os maiores e menores números de espigas 42.708 e 34.167, respectivamente. Na várzea, os resultados não diferiram pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade, quanto à doçura e textura. Quanto ao brix, a maciez, o sabor e a coloração diferiram estatisticamente pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade. Em terra firme, os resultados diferiram estatisticamente quanto ao brix e a coloração. O milho verde é uma ótima opção de cultivo para o Estado do Amazonas, podendo ser cultivado em ecossistemas de várzea e terra firme, com opções de uso de variedades e híbridos de acordo com o nível tecnológico do agricultor.

Resumo: O presente trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar técnicas, como o uso de aditivos microbianos direcionados ao controle de microrganismos aeróbios, bem como a utilização de um filme plástico de baixa permeabilidade ao oxigênio no controle da deterioração aeróbia. No primeiro estudo, o objetivo foi avaliar o efeito do Lactobacillus buchneri sobre a composição química, o perfil de fermentação, a presença de fungos e de leveduras e a estabilidade aeróbia da silagem de milho. No segundo, objetivou-se avaliar as perdas de matéria seca, a composição químico-bromatológicas e a presença de fungos e leveduras das silagens de milho, na região periférica de silos superfícies, quando vedada com filme de baixa permeabilidade ao oxigênio. A inoculação influenciou o perfil fermentativo, indicando que o aumento da dose aplicada na massa ensilada reduziu a recuperação da MS e aumentou as perdas por gases. A composição bromatológica das silagens de milho não foi influenciada, no entanto ocorreu maior estabilidade aeróbia das silagens tratadas. O filme de baixa permeabilidade ao oxigênio reduz a ocorrência de leveduras e de fungos quando é imposto ao silo um avanço satisfatório da massa de silagem durante o desabastecimento, o que poderia melhorar a qualidade sanitária da mesma.<br>Abstract: The present work aimed to evaluate techniques, as additives specific for aerobic microorganisms control and plastic film with low oxygen permeability for aerobic deterioration control. The inoculation influenced the fermentation profile, indicating that the increase of the dose applied in mass ensiled reduced the recovery of MS and increased losses by gases. The corn silage chemical composition was not influenced however there was greater aerobic stability of the treated silage. Abstract:
In this work, carbon dots (CDs), obtained through microwave assisted synthesis from butane tetra carboxylic acid (BTCA), was introduced into chitosan film via simple solvent casting approach. The CDs had an average diameter of 40 to 60 nm as determined by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis. They possessed a zeta potential of −20.2 mV. The X-ray photon spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed presence of carboxylate groups on the surface of carbon dots. The XRD of both the plain sample Ch/CD (0) and carbon dots loaded sample Ch/CD(2) showed two crystalline sharp peaks at 14.6 and 18.1 degree, along with presence of amorphous region also. The moisture absorption data was well fitted on GAB isotherm and the profiles obtained were sigmoidal. The water vapor permeation rates for the sample Ch/CD(0) and Ch/CD(2) were found to be 1758 and 956 g/m2 /day respectively. The film samples Ch/CD(0) and Ch/CD(20 expanded 2.8 and 103 times when immersed in 4% gelatin solution for 4 h. The % hemolysis for the samples Ch/CD(0) and Ch/CD(2) was 2.12 and 1.11 respectively, thus indicating biocompatible nature of the films. In the ex-vivo mucoadhesion study, the maximum detachment force (Fmax) was 88.22 and 46.28 mN for the samples Ch/CD(0) and Ch/CD(2) respectively. Finally, both of the samples, namely Ch/CD (0) and Ch/CD(2) scored “0”, suggesting their non-cell cytotoxic nature.

Abstract:
It has been argued that competitive necessities will increasingly require OSS companies to participate in cooperative business networks in order to offer the complete product/service (whole product) demanded by customers. It is envisaged that these business networks will enhance the business models of participant firms by supplementing their value-adding activities and increasing responsiveness to customers. However, while such propositions have intuitive appeal, there is a lack of empirical research on such networks. This article examines Zea Partners, a network of small open source companies cooperating to deliver the ‘whole product’ in the area of content management systems (CMSs). It investigates how participation in the network augments the business models of participant companies and identifies the business agility challenges faced by the network. The article concludes that reconciling the coordination needs of OSS networks with the operational practices of participant firms is a critical issue if such networks are to achieve adaptive efficiency to deliver whole products in a ‘bazaar-friendly’ manner.

Kapitalizmin etkisiyle yaygınlaşan teknoloji kullanımı hayatımızın merkezine aldığımız teknolojik aletlere bağlılığımızı her geçen gün arttırmaktadır. Yeni medya ile yaşamsal bir parçamız haline gelen sosyal medya devrimi, teknolojik araçlarla bütünleşmemize neden olmakta ve iletişim biçimlerimizi değiştirme gücüne sahip olduğunu bizlere göstermektedir. Özellikle nesnelerin internet sağlayıcılarla kurduğu bağ, bizleri manipüle etmekte, kullanım ve doyumlarımıza da yön vermektedir. Gelişen ve sürekli değişen teknoloji yaşantılarımızı, kültürümüzü, kişiliklerimizi, tüketim alışkanlıklarımızı ve ihtiyaçlarımızın neler olduğunu da değiştirerek bizlerin algılarını etkisi altına almaktadır. Bu çalışma kapsamında, dönüşen teknoloji kavramı üzerinde durularak, nesnelerin interneti (IoT) olgusuna değinilerek etkilerinin neler olduğu üzerinde durulmaktadır. Aynı zamanda bu kavramın sağlık sektöründe kullanılmasıyla ilgili örnek teşkil eden Salgın filminin analizine yer verilmektedir. Günümüzün küresel bir sağlık sorunu olarak nitelendirdiğimiz Covid-19 ile mücadelede kullanılan yapay zeka robotlarının oynadığı role değinilerek, kullanılan bu teknolojinin fayda ve zararlarının neler olabileceğinin incelemesine yer verilmektedir.

İnsan sosyal bir varlıktır. Sosyal bir varlık olan insan yaşamını sürdürmek için diğer insanlarla iletişim kurmaya, duygu, düşünce, inanç ve ideolojilerini aktarmaya ihtiyaç duymaktadır. İnsan eliyle yapılan makinalar insan yapımı olmakla birlikte herhangi bir duyguya sahip değildir. Ancak yapay zekanın gelişimi insanlara makinelerinde düşünebildiğini, duyguları olduğunu anlatmaya çalışmaktadır. Yeni iletişim teknolojilerinin gelişimi makine ile insan arasındaki ilişkinin önemini ortaya çıkarmaktadır. İnsanlar makineyi/robotu sesli komut ya da el – yüz – göz taramalarıyla kontrol edebilmektedir. Makinenin hafızasına işlenen veri diğer algoritmalarla anlamlandırılarak, bireyin ihtiyaç duyduğu bilgiyi anında verebilmektedir. Bireyin verdiği tepkiyi işleyen makine, kendisi ve birey için kimi zaman koruyucu, kimi zaman bir gölge olabilmektedir. Makine bireyi tanıyarak hem tehlikeli hem de faydalı bir araca dönüşebilmektedir. Makine işlediği verileri saklayıp, depolamakta ve kayıt altına almaktadır. Veriler makine tarafından örülen güvenlik duvarıyla korunmaktadır. Ancak bu verilerin ele geçirilmesi durumunda içerden ve dışardan gözetim kaçınılmazdır. Günümüzde İletişimin ekolojisi açısında yeni medya araçları iletişimin sürekliliğini sağlamakta ve bireyin sosyalleşmesini kolaylaştırmaktadır. Ayrıca kullanılan makineler bireyin yaşamına zaman - mekanüstü hız kazandırmaktadır. Bu çalışmada makinenin karakter yapıları incelenerek, dijital gözetim açısında önemi ortaya çıkarılmaktadır. Amaç, makinenin yapay zeka kavramıyla birey için koruyucu, gölge, arkadaş olabileceği gibi tehlikeli olabileceğini ortaya koyarak, dijital gözetim açısından değerlendirmektir. Bu çalışmada makinenin duygusal zekası ve dijital gözetim kavramı içerik analizi yöntemiyle göstergebilim tekniği kullanılarak incelenecektir. Araştırmada rastgele seçilen 5 farklı Hollywood filminde (Ex Machina, I Robot, Bicentennial Man, Transcendence, Eagle Eye) yer alan makine/robot Jung’un karakter analizine göre incelenerek, makinenin duygusal yönü ve Barthes’ın temel karşıtlıklarından yararlanarak insan ve makinenin farklı yönleri belirtilecektir. Bu filmlerde makinenin formları farklı olup, koruyucu, gölge karakterlere sahip olmaları dikkat çekmektedir. Makine duygularıyla hareket ederek tehlikeli bir hal almaktadır. Bunun sonucunda makinenin/robotun verilere göre tepki verdiği ve dijital gözetim açısından önemli bir yöne sahip olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Çünkü makine yapay zekanın gücüyle sürekli gelişmektedir. Bu gelişim diğer araçlara erişimini kolaylaştırmakta ve dijital gözetim yapmasını kolaylaştırmaktadır. Eagle eye filminde makine şehirdeki bütün kamera sistemlerini kullanarak dijital gözetim yapabilmektedir.

Abstract:
The present study has been performed on heat transfer, fluid flow and formation of emissions in a diesel engine by different engine parameters. The analysis aims at an investigation of flow field, heat transfer, combustion pressure and formation of emission by means of numerical simulation which is using as parameter; hole number of injector and crank angle. Numerical simulations are performed using the AVL-FIRE commercial software depending on the crank angle. This software is successfully used in internal combustion engine applications, and its validity has been accepted. In this paper, k-zeta-f is preferred as turbulence model and SIMPLE/PISO used as algorithms. Thus, results are presented with pressure traces, temperature curves and NOx and soot levels for engine operating conditions. In addition, the relationship between the spray behaviors and combustion characteristics including NOx emissions, soot emissions, combustion pressure and temperature were illustrated through this analysis.

Abstract:
Introdução: O bagaço de malte é o principal resíduo da indústria cervejeira e normalmente é descartado como lixo comum pelos cervejeiros artesanais caseiros. Objetivo: Este estudo teve como objetivo realizar a compostagem em média escala de bagaço de malte obtido de microcervejarias da região de Sete Lagoas- MG, com restos de capina da Universidade Federal de São João Del Rei – Campus Sete Lagoas, a fim de testar a eficiência agronômica do composto orgânico final na adubação de plantas. Material e métodos: Foi utilizada a metodologia de FERNANDES e CHOHFI (2010) para calcular a quantidade de cada material para compor a pilha de compostagem com relação C/N inicial de 30/1, o que resultou na quantidade de 8,180 Kg de bagaço de malte úmido para 105 Kg de capim. Foram montadas três pilhas de compostagem misturando os materiais e monitorou-se semanalmente a temperatura, umidade, pH, Carbono Orgânico Total, Nitrogênio Total e relação C/N. Com o composto orgânico produzido realizou-se bioensaios com as plantas Pinhão-manso (Jatropha curcas L.), Salsa-lisa (Petroselinum crispum) e Milho (Zea mays), através de delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e três repetições, sendo os tratamentos: 1) Controle positivo; 2) Duas partes de composto e uma de solo; 3) Uma parte de composto e uma parte de solo; 4) Uma parte de composto e duas partes de solo; 5) Controle negativo. Aos 54 dias após a semeadura foram medidos os diâmetros do caule e as alturas das plantas. Resultados: A duração da fase termófila da compostagem foi de 37 dias. Os resultados de pH, Carbono orgânico, Nitrogênio total e relação C/N atenderam o mínimo exigido pela legislação brasileira para comercialização. Os bioensaios mostraram que a aplicação do composto orgânico no solo estimula o crescimento, principalmente da parte aérea das plantas. Não houve diferença significativa entre o controle positivo e o tratamento contendo duas partes de composto e uma de solo. Conclusão: O composto orgânico resultante da compostagem de bagaço de malte e restos de capina incrementou no crescimento das plantas.
