Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract According to Erich Zenger, Psalm 82 has been considered as one of the most “spectacular” texts of the Old Testament. This psalm not only declares the death of other gods (אלהים) but also defines commitment towards the poor as a criterion for being true god. Within the debate of different methodological approaches to biblical texts, the present article first discusses some selected historical-critical questions of Psalm 82. It then asks the questions, Who are the poor in this Psalm? and Is it accidental that Psalm 82 speaks of the one אלהים in opposition to the other אלהים? These questions will be answered by offering a canonical exegesis of this Psalm within the corpus of the Psalms of Asaph.

Abstract:
The aim of the dissertation is to test, on a particular narrative well-known for its difficulty, the use of the concept of coherence for the interpretation of the text. The first chapter (pp. 14-71) deals with the establishment of the text (presentation of the main witnesses and survey of the variant readings). This preliminary step, essential for the study of the text, also gives acces to the history of its interpretation. The minute investigation of the variant readings on a section which involves few textual problems, gives information about the difficulties the first readers (copyist, translators) met. The history of interpretation, dealt with in the second chapter (pp. 72-204), allows to observe how the coherence of the narrative has been perceived, managed and challanged by generations of exegetes from antiquity to our time. The aim of this enquiry is specific, limited to the perception of the coherence of the narrative for its interpretation. The crucial part of the work is to be found in the third chapter (pp. 205-331). All the possible instances of breaks in the narrative coherence that exegetes have pointed out are scrutinized one after the other. The enquiry is mainly connected with the systematic work done by e. Zenger (sinaitheophanie, 1971 pp. 55-76). In the analysis, an effort has been made to sort out the difficulties by decreasing order : 1) contradictions, 2) confusions, 3) disconnections, 4) atypical forms, 5) repetitions, 6) differencies. The enquiry shows that the difficulties pointed out as incoherencies in the recent history of interpretation can be resolved by better information (atypical forms), by taking account of other solutions (contradictions, disconnections), by attentive study of the structure of the text (repetitions, confusions). The last chapter (pp. 332-403) offers an enquiry in the structure of the text according to its formal and thematic aspects
