The analytical and theoretical part is followed by empirical part whose conclusions do not disprove the hypothesis of discrimination in Czech labour market, nevertheless comes to the conclusion that the part of the differences in average income, that exist, can be explained mainly by following factors: the number of worked hours, education level, time spent mainly by women on maternity / parental leave and child care and other factors. This thesis concerns scientific, philosophical and religious views of womanhood. Its main focus is the nature of biblical womanhood, based on the papal apostolic letter Mulieris dignitatem and contemporary studies of American biblists, concerning biblical manhood and womanhood. The practical section consists of qualitative research among Czech Christian women. It examines how Christian women view their role and practically implement principles of biblical womanhood in their family, society and church. The aim of this thesis is not to evaluate controversial issues, such as women?s ordination, homosexuality, or other questions regarding womanhood. Nevertheless, it seeks to explore biblical womanhood in practice, as well as the concerns and struggles of real Christian women. Of no less importance, this research tries to identify how Christian women, who are a minority in the Czech Republic, develop their views on biblical womanhood, the sources from which they draw, as well as the models, which influence them.

Abstract:
The thesis focuses on the analysis of the process of creating a political image in the course of an election campaign, offering a case study of Magdalena Ogórek's candidacy during the Polish presidential election of 2015. The analysis is preceded by a theoretical introduction which lays down the groundwork for subsequently reporting the empirical findings. The following central terms and concepts are covered: political marketing (especially in the context of post-1989 Poland), political image (with an emphasis on the process of its creation and the parties involved), political language (again, particularly in the context of contemporary Poland), and the notion of stereotype (both linguistic and non-linguistic, with an emphasis on stereotypes about women). The empirical results are reported in three sections which offer different perspectives on the phenomenon under scrutiny. The first part investigates how Magdalena Ogórek herself, her team and PR consultants created her image as a candidate. The second part presents an analysis of the influence that her political opponents had on her political image. The third and final part concerns itself with Magdalena Ogórek's media image, as created by the Polish media during the campaign. This diploma thesis introduces a gender analysis of a present standing of women in the Police of the Czech Republic as seen by policewomen - students of the Police Academies themselves. The thesis investigates whether, in the policewomen's view, there are unrecognized and institutionally built-in gender stereotypes which determine women's and men's positions and acts; whether there exists equal treatment of women and men and equal opportunities of women and men (for example in terms of remuneration, decision-making, career growth, access to further education, etc.) in the context of the Czech Police. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on a gender analysis of Police materials covering the historical development of women's positions in the armed forces of the Czech Republic, legal aspects of service in such forces as well as a review of reports and priorities pertaining to equal opportunities issued by the Czech Ministry of the Interior. 6 Within the quantitative research, a questionnaire survey addressing 60 policewomen studying at Secondary Police School of the Ministry of the Interior and at the Police Academy of the Czech Republic in Prague was conducted from April 2008 to May 2008. Abstract:
The Jazz Section was a specific Czechoslovac institution established during the late communism, in the era of lack of freedom. It originated as a group of jazz fans, later also fans of the alternative culture. Its members were active during the so-called normalisation, period which lasted from the events of Prague spring in 1968 till the Velvet revolution in 1989. The communist regime ran various oppressions against the Jazz Section, because of its free promotion of alternative culture which stired up a gigantic interest among young people. The Section was repressed by prohibitions and finally put in illegality by political trial that culminated in 1986. In this work I analyze the atmosphere of Jazzová sekce in the era of normalisation from the point of view of its active female members. The analysis is based on biographic, oral history interviews . In them, female activists talked about why they entered to Section, what had they worked on, what the Section gave them and what they learned in it. The central part of my work is a chapter dedicated to opinions and values of women activists . I also analysed the women's role in Jazzová sekce from the point of view of their male members. /Thesis/ Prague 2005 - Charles University, Faculty of Education, Department of Art, p. 132 (visual materials: 17 scans of graphic diagrams based on Grounded Theory, 7 illustrations , 4 copies of students' art work.) The goal of the thesis was to analyse and describe the origins and sources of the gender identity constitution in the society with a view to a popular visual culture influence. The present media production was the starting point for the art educational project based on the gender stereotypes generated by media and the traditional description of male and female role stereotypes in the society. The main part of the thesis is the qualitative analysis of the project materials based on Grounded Theory procedures and techniques. Description of the analytic story, central cathegory and several selected main cathegories follow. The results of the qualitative analysis itself based on Grounded Theory, newly constructed theory describing the relations between central and main cathegories in the model of reality i.e. the field of research and other useful outcomes offer many possibilities of deeper analysis and further theoretical development of this theme. Abstract:
Women in Reformation The position of women developed throughout history. Religious reformation, which took place in the early 16th century in the German speaking countries and hundred years earlier in the Czech Kingdom, was one of the movements which changed radically the position of women in the society. First, the religious leaders beginning with Martin Luther changed the clerical view which saw women as incompetent, incomplete and sinful beings into one of respect to the gender and its specifics and to the biological role played by women - motherhood. As a result, women were respected in the society as wives and mothers; nobody wrote preaching about them being danger to men anymore. But with the attack on the monasteries women were deprived of the only way for higher education and independence offered to them in these institutions. The Czech reformation never fully changed its view on marriage. Celibacy and virginity were still considered better ways to salvation then marriage and especially its consummation. In the end both Utraquists and the Unity of Brethren accepted Luther's view on marriage, especially the marriage of priests, but never fully. They tended to see celibacy as the better although for most people impossible way. But the position of women in these branches of Czech reformation was...

Abstract:
The main subject of this thesis is feminine nature. The goal is to capture the essence of womanhood in the entirety of the world. There is a difference between the experience of a woman's life and the world around her. We must therefore ask how the world around us is set up, what nature itself entails, how the society views a woman and how a woman views herself. The work is divided into three main parts. The first part deals with the nature according to two of the most important thinkers of antiquity: Plato and Aristotle. The second section examines the nature and essence of womanhood as viewed by the French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir. In the final part, we discuss some of the phenomena related to the issue of womanhood nowadays, such as physicality, dignity, human culture and responsibility. The whole work shows that it is essential for us to demand freedom of self-realization which along with the need for cooperation of both genders in establishing basic rules of the world that men and women inhabit together, provides for women to self-realize freely in harmony with their own experience of the world. Abstract:
The thesis explores women's experiencing of menstruation and it compares the experiencing in two groups, one consisting of women who have attended women's circles, and the other of women who have not. In addition to experiencing menstruation, the thesis explores the women's circles themselves as a new social phenomenon. Data collected through interviews with ten women was analysed using grounded theory methods. Menstruation is examined on the level of personal experiencing as well as on the level of a social norm. These levels are seen to show mutual influence. To some degree, women adopt the social perception of menstruation, yet at the same time, it is their experiences and actions that form it. Therefore, women have the potential to change the social norms regarding menstruation. Women outside women's circles accept the social norm and experience menstruation passively. They consider not feeling well a natural side-effect and do not attempt to change it. Women who have attended women's circles counter the social norm and experience menstruation actively. They work with their experiences, both physical and psychological, while menstruating, and they actively adjust their surrounding conditions in order to feel better. Master thesis The Czech Women's view on representation of women in advertisement focuses on the way advertisement reproduces gender stereotypes and sexism in the society. The analysis examines the view of female audience on this matters. The role of advertisement, gender roles and gender stereotypes, sexism and feminism are introduced in the beginning of this thesis. Main traits of sexism in advertisement are described. Possible impact of stereotyped and sexist advertisement on its viewers is demonstrated by introducing results of field related analyses. Based on interviews' analysis with selected group of women it was discovered that women view the representation of women in advertisement to be heavily stereotyped. Women in advertisement are reduced to the following categories: physically attractive and carefree, homemaker, naive and dull, and last but not least sex object. Even though female responders are able to identify some negative impacts of this stereotyped representation of women on both women's and men's lives, their concerns are undermined by their attitude towards advetisement which they do not consider to be capable of changing public attitudes and values. Abstract:
What is the life of Kenyan women like? In Kenya, like many African countries, a deep paradox has been created. Kenyan women enjoy the benefits of modern life, yet their lives are largely determined by customary law. Although the majority of Kenyan women do not live in traditional society, they are still perceived within their traditional roles. Modern society has different requirements than the traditional ones, however only the segment of -self-confident and informed citizens are aware of their rights and are able to assert their rights. While women compose the majority of the Kenyan population (52%) and play an active role in the development of the whole society, Kenya still continues to remain a deep patriarchal society with a very low regard of the status of women. Women in Kenya are unequal and under-privileged in most areas of their lives. This situation is propounded by the current legal and political system, as well as by prevailing socio-cultural factors. The dissertation examines the different roles of the Kenyan woman - as a daughter, a wife and a mother. The main philosophical ideology which the African society is based upon is the continuation of life and keeping the patrilineal lineage where dead ancestors play the same role as children born to the family. It is presumed that women who play an...

Abstract:
The central topic of the thesis is a (seemingly) paradoxical preposition of current feminist thinking that a woman in language and in our culture is absent. It is an all theoretical work that focuses on interpretation of key concepts of gender analysis related to the major concept of absence of a woman in language. It is trying to explain these concepts as deeply as possible and point at their interconnections and eventually their different conceptions, whereas the analysis proceeds primarily on the grounds of literary criticism. The work is structured into two thematically interconnected units. The first focuses on analysing key terms of contemporary poststructuralist philosophy and critical theory, particularly language, text, writing, discourse, power, gender identity and falogocentrism, with the aim to map the theoretical foundations of the concept of absence of a woman in language. The second unit concentrates on analysing the subversive potential of individual conceptions of women's writing, mainly of the theory of l'écriture feminine of Heléne Cixous, Luce Irigaray, Julia Kristeva and the concept of "women's writing" of Jan Matonoha, which all equally aspire to destabilize and problematize the functioning and the logic of the dominant discourse discussed in the first unit and thus create a...

Abstract:
The American Frontier existed for several hundred years. Beginning with the arrival of the first explorers at the end of the fifteenth century, pioneering became the trademark of the New World. After the appearance of the first settlers on the eastern seaboard, and during the later exploits into the wilderness that awaited in the interior of the New World, pioneers had to face challenges posed by nature and the unfamiliar environment inhabited by native tribes. In the nineteenth century, the Frontier gained a new significance, as it was pushed ever westward with the incessant march of pioneers over the continent; until in 1890 it was declared by the Bureau of the Census that "at present the unsettled area has been so broken into by isolated bodies of settlement that there can hardly be said to be a frontier line."r Thus the Frontier was closed. Precisely the time of the nineteenth century when the trickle of westering emigrants changed into a stream of people flooding across the Great Plains into the trans-Mississippi West, roughly from 1840 to 1880, is of interest when discussing the emergence of permanent settlements and communities in the West. This is the time of the mythic West, so central to the formation of the American nation, as discussed by Frederick Iackson Turner in his famous essay...

In my work I address the issue of women throughout the historical development of the Unity of the Brethren (also called Moravian Church). I look into the most common social roles women reached (a wife, a virgin); further I address the obligations, rights and general principles which guided their daily lives. The thesis is focused on a unique element of the Unity; namely the institution of matrons. I also discuss the issue of girls' education in the context of the work of J.A. Comenius (the last bishop of the Unity). In order to achieve greater plasticity and to make the topic more easily accessible, a description of the life of one particular Unity woman is included. Her name is Catherine of Ludanice, she was an important supporter of the Unity of the Brethren and the wife of a well-known nobleman Petr Vok of Rožmberk.

This thesis The Portrayal of women in Slovak print media advertising 1992-2012 addresses the way women are depicted in advertising in three selected Slovak magazines, at three points in time; 1992, 2002 and 2012. The work aims to discover in what direction the portrayal of women in magazine advertisements has evolved during this period when advertising occupies more and more space in the media. This work deals with gender issues and focuses mainly on the roles in which women are represented in advertising. Their passivity or activity and sexual objectification are examined through content and semiotic analysis. The dual mode of analysis will allow us to better understand the mechanisms of the depiction of women in advertising and compare the different ways women are portrayed in the media depending on the target audience.

Abstract:
Reproduction health means ability to become pregnant, bear the full term and give birth to a healthy child. Every woman is responsible for her care for reproduction health. Health is also closely connected with love for family. Family is very important for Romani people as it is a source of power and deep roots and satisfies life necessities of its members. The thesis titled Romani Women and Reproduction Health deals mainly with the issues of reproduction health of Romani women which includes family planning of Romani women, pregnant Romani women, abortion, childbirth, contraception and also climacteric and preventive screening mammography. The issues connected with reproduction health are quite serious as preventive medical examinations are essential for subsequent treatment when a disease is diagnosed. The aim of the thesis was to find out whether or not there is any education in the area of family planning of Romani women; whether or not Romani women plan their parenthood; whether or not family planning is affected by the traditional Romani family pattern; at what age they give their first birth; whether or not Romani women undergo preventive gynaecological examinations; whether or not Romani women are informed about vaccination against uterine suppository cancer; and whether or not Romani women use hormonal substitution therapy during their climacteric. The hypotheses below were defined for these aims. The aim of the first hypothesis was to verify that there is no education in the area of family planning of Romani women. The hypothesis was verified by a questionnaire and its subsequent statistical evaluation. The aim of the second hypothesis was to verify that Romani women plan their pregnancy but this hypothesis was not verified. The aim of the third hypothesis was to verify that family planning of Romani women is affected by the traditional Romani family pattern which was not verified. The aim of the fourth hypothesis was to verify that Romani women give their first birth at the age of 17 or so. This hypothesis was verified by a questionnaire and its subsequent statistical evaluation. The aim of the fifth hypothesis was to verify that Romani women undergo preventive gynaecological examinations. This hypothesis was verified. The aim of the sixth hypothesis was to verify that Romani women are not informed about vaccination against uterine suppository cancer. This hypothesis was not verified. The aim of the seventh hypothesis was to verify that Romani women do not use hormonal replacement therapy during their climacteric. This hypothesis was verified. There were four research questions defined for a qualitative check. The first question concerned the fact how the lower socioeconomic status of Romani families affects the number of children being born. The second research question concerned the most frequent gynaecological diseases occurring of Romani women. The third question concerned the issues connected with pregnancy of Romani women. The fourth question concerned the fact whether or not Romani women let their daughters be vaccinated against uterine suppository cancer. The results of the research questions show that the informants did not have problems to become pregnant; when they had health problems during pregnancy they went to hospital to avoid complications; their lower socioeconomic status does not have any impact on the number of children in Romani families; five informants out of nine did not have any gynaecological problems; all Romani informants are informed about vaccination against uterine suppository cancer; and only three women out of nine would not let their daughters be vaccinated. A combination of quantitative and qualitative checks was used for the practical part of the thesis. A non-standardized interview and a questionnaire were used as the data collection technique. The research group consisted of Romani women of all age categories from České Budějovice.

Abstract:
Diploma thesis tries to offer a new insight into migration and integration of migrant women living in Czech Republic by means of life-story telling of ten such women. By using this approach the author tries to deconstruct stereotypical understanding of migration as a threat or a security hazard for the accepting society, on the contrary she tries to picture migrant women and their life-stories as tales of people who consider Czech Republic their second home and who actively participate on its development. Citizenship is understood as a membership in society of which migrant women are also legitimate and active members. The thesis should contribute to building positive attitude towards migrant women in general and it also offers recommendations for the public as well as integration policy creators as to how migrant women can be reflected in context of migration.
