Purpose The aim of this paper was to study the initial corrosion behavior of copper in the substations of Zhanjiang and Zhuhai. Design/methodology/approach The copper exposed at the substation of Guangdong coastal region in southern China for up to 12 months. The rust layer formed on the copper has been examined by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray energy spectrum, X-ray diffraction and electrochemical polarization techniques. Findings The corrosion weight loss of copper at Zhanjiang exposure site is a little more serious than that at Zhuhai exposure site in every exposure period. The corros

Dissolved oxygen (DO) is one of the most important factors for maintaining a healthy marine ecosystem. The information of DO in large estuaries or bays with large entrances has been widely studied, while it is relatively limited for a bay with a narrow entrance which is vulnerable to human activities. The Zhanjiang Bay, located in the northwestern South China Sea, has a very narrow entrance and suffers from strong anthropogenic activities and obvious seasonal variations in environmental parameters. In this study, we analyzed the spatial and monthly variations of DO, apparent oxygen utilization

A sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and a ceramic membrane bioreactor (CMBR) were used in conjunction (SBR+CMBR) to treat high-concentration oil and gas field wastewater (HCOGW) from the China National Offshore Oil Corporation Zhanjiang Branch (Zhanjiang, Guangdong, China). The chemical oxygen demand (COD) and the oil concentrations in the wastewater were 20,000–76,000 and 600–2200 mg/L, respectively. After the SBR+CMBR process, the effluent COD and oil content values were less than 250 mg/L and 2 mg/L, respectively, which met the third level of the Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standards of Ch

Littoral rotifers were collected in three prefectural cities of the little studied Western Guangdong Province (Yangjiang, Maoming and Zhanjiang) in April 2017 and in July 2018. Fifty-six monogonont taxa, including two subspecies/variations, were found. Lecane zhanjiangensis sp. nov., a new brackish-water species from the littoral zone of Shimenhe River Estuary in Zhanjiang, is described. It is characterized by large semicircular projections antero-laterally on the dorsal plate, each equipped with three to five minute spines, and a pair of large acutely pointed projections antero-laterally on t

Based on the water quality investigation data of December in 2010, the water environment quality of Lv-tang River in Zhanjiang national urban wetland park was assessed using single water quality parameter model and integrated water quality index model. The results show that the water quality of Lv-tang River is worse than the national quality standards for Grade V. The water is polluted seriously. The main pollutants are total nitrogen (TN), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) and chemical oxygen demand CODCr with their average concentrations of 60.49 mg/L, 30.57 mg/L and 227.38mg/L, respectively. The av

A new tachinid species, Kuwanimyia zhanjiangensis sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on specimens collectedfrom Zhanjiang in southern China. A modified key is provided for the identification of this species within the genus Ku-wanimyia Townsend, 1916.
