Abstract:

The intellectual development in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) could be generally divided into two phases, with the first one inherited from the Han Wei period focusing on the meaning of words, while the second phase focuses on the teaching of the Confucian classics. Among the various scholars during the course of this transformation, Dan Zhu (啖助,724-770) has been recognized as a non-mainstream but yet very influential character. To avoid the An-Shi Rebellion, Dan Zhu resided in the south-eastern part of the country where he taught Lu Chun (陸淳) the Chun Qiu (春秋) classic. Many famous Tang political reformers including Lu Wen (呂溫) and Liu Zong Yuan (柳宗元) are considered by historians as Dan Zhu’s students and followers. This has made Dan Zhu even more influential than other Confucius scholars in that period. Nevertheless, due to the controversial nature of his teachings, Dan Zhu was heavily criticized by Ouyang Xiu (歐陽修) as being specious and at the same time appraised by Cheng Yi (程頤) to be one of the fore-runners who founded the Song Confucianism. This research reveals that Dan Zhu abandons the approach of focusing on the meaning wording and goes directly into the teachings of the classics. He considers that there are large amount of mistakes in the then contemporary explanation of Chun Qiu, he also considers that Tang scholars have not just worked in isolation without much view sharing, but also misinterpreted Confucius’ teachings. Moreover, the Tang scholars are treating Chun Qiu as history or even as literature, rather than Confucius’ teaching on how the society should be run. From Dan Zhu’s perspective, Confucius was trying to make use of histories to set proper behavioural standards and protocols for running the country, with an objective of saving the imperial control of Zhou (周). During the mid-Tang period, China was undergoing major social changes from a feudal to a modern society. Tang imperials whose ancestors carried a nomadic blood stream tried to strengthen their control by adopting Confucianism; and placing more emphasis on the south-eastern region where the Han Chinese of the Southern Dynasty was concentrated. Coupling with the civil examination (科舉) reform and the impacts of Zen Buddhism, the Tang society was undergoing major social-political transformation which Dan Zhu was situated right on its course. The research concludes that Dan Zhu’s ideas fit well with Xuan-zong’s (唐玄宗) appeal for revival of Confucius teachings and the social-political setting in Mid-Tang. Although Dan Zhu is considered a non-mainstream scholar, his teachings have brought about significant impacts on later development of the Neo-Confucianism. 碩士<br>國立臺北大學<br>古典文獻學研究所<br>98<br>"Zheng Zhi"（鄭志）, a book was compiled by the learners after Zheng Xuan（鄭玄）, in which recorded the dialogues on the issues of Confucian ideology discussed between Zheng Xuan（鄭玄） and the disciples, so that could be as an important basis of the research for Zheng ideology（鄭學）. This book had no longer been seen in the Song （宋）Dynasty while handed down. Till Qing（清） Dynasty, some scholars had begun to concern the reduction work of "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志） and consequently made the revival of "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志）. Therefore, the great complexity of "Zheng Zhi" （鄭志）was revealed not only by looking at Zheng Xuan（鄭玄） from the standpoint of the disciples of Zheng Xuan（鄭玄）, more involved the points of view of the compilers among the Han, Wei and Qing Dynasty in "Zheng ideology"（鄭學）. Besides combing for the "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志） documents that scattered over the vast sea of books, the Qing （清）Dynasty compilers also faced the problems in re-interpretation and recovery. As a result, in the face of the subject what the original of "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志） is, the compilers presented their argument with different considerations, which also made the styles of "Zhent Ji"（鄭記） compilations based in accordance with different theories. In the process of "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志） recompilation, the "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志） compilations were divided into three main styles by the issues in the history of Confucian ideology; the basis of these three styles were related to the determination to the style of dialogues, such as "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志） was recorded the dialogues between Zheng Xuan and the disciples. Hence, the standard to identify as Zheng Xuan （鄭玄）disciple became the first subject; standing in the Qing （清）Dynasty, what should the "Zheng Ji"（鄭記） a book about the dialogues among the disciples be classified to? Or it is entirely different thread of thought? Intertwined relationship between the two books through the exploration of the style of "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志）compilation showed the different ways of thinking of the compiler. In addition, while discuss the life history of studying and thinking about Zheng Xuan（鄭玄）, the later scholars often suffer from the discrepancies made by Zheng Xuan（鄭玄） on the notes of Confucian classics; In the "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志）, Zheng Xuan（鄭玄）self declared the position on the notes of Confucian classics in his early years is different from in his later years, in which there are quite more statements about amendments for the early years saying. So the importance of the "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志）compilations may be regarded as the book to reserve for Zheng Xuan’s final conclusion in his later years. This study in accordance with different interpretation from documents, sorts out the formation of "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志）compilations, analysis the style of dialogues in "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志） how to affect the compilers to interpret "Zheng Zhi"（鄭志） and "Zheng Ji" （鄭記）between the two books, and from the Qing（清） Dynasty Academic History for "Zheng ideology”（鄭學） position, to re-clarify the contribution and originality of Qing（清） Dynasty compilers in the revival of "Zheng Xuan"（鄭玄） documents.

碩士<br>淡江大學<br>中國文學系<br>90<br>Zhang Xuecheng is one of the most distinguished scholars in the study of Qing dynasty. His works cover several fields, including the study of scriptures, study of literature, historiography, local gazetteers and textual criticism. Since Ming Guo, there has been a great number of studies on Zhang' works. Most of the studies of this kind, however, have attempted to explicate Zhang's works in terms of specific topic instead of exploring the relation between his theories. This present thesis, on the ground of the notion 'scriptures as representation of history', aims to establish patterns of ancient book writing, i.e. 'meaning pattern' and 'style pattern'. It is also pointed out the way these patterns work in the edition of local gazetteers and furthermore the methods of 'three book style' of local gazetteers is built up. Besides, it is discussed the construction of academic theories, the relation between each theory and the way theories of local gazetteers have a effect on local gazetteers in Qing dynasty, attempting to sketch the whole picture of Zhang's studies.
