Abstract The nature of the Tsinghua bamboo-slip manuscript Chi jiu zhi ji Tang zhi wu is different from that of the Yi Yin shuo, which is recorded in the ‘Zhuzi lüe’ of the Han shu ‘Yiwen zhi’. This manuscript is also not a story fabricated by people in the Warring States period. It is possible that what is presented in this manuscript was a legend passed from generation to generation within Yi Yin’s lineage. Unlike Yin zhi and Yin gao, this manuscript does not belong to the Shangshu category.

Abstract:
The present article is a continuation of the research on the chapter «Diverse Writings» (Za shu) from the famous “Book to Burn” (Fen shu), the opus magnum by the iconoclastic late Ming thinker Li Zhi (1527–1602). The article comprises the first translation into Russian of the essay by Li Zhi “Discourse on Armament and Food” (Bing shi lun) accompanied by introduction and comments. The tenor of the Chinese text is the social role of armament. Li Zhi revises the saying by Confucius regarding the priority of people’s trust to the food and armament. He also strongly criticizes Mengzi’s ideas. The latter recommended to enlighten people by educating them in village schools and to openly force them to follow the righteous way of the king. Li Zhi suggests an effective alternative to such approach by following the more flexible Daoist way. Following his suggestion, one should create special conditions in which people would self-regulate in natural way and could be manipulated without being able to notice it.

Abstract:
This article examines the aesthetic ideas associated with the concept of zhong yong zhi dao 中庸 之道 (“golden mean”) by Confucius. Particular attention is paid to the following provisions of Confucian aesthetics: wen zhi bingbin 文质彬彬 “appearance and essence are equally perfect”, le er bu yin, ai er bu shang 乐而不淫,哀而不伤 “being joyful is not obscene; being sad does not hurt”, jin shan jin mei 尽善尽美 “quite beautiful and quite moral”. The author comes to the conclusion that Confucian aesthetics expresses the idea of zhonghe zhi mei 中和之美 “the beauty of middle harmony”, embodying the ancient Chinese thought of “the balance of yin and yang”. Confucius advocated the equality of wen “appearance” and zhi “essence”, which should complement each other and correspond to the principle of the “golden mean”. The philosopher praised the music of 關雎Guan Ju (“Meeting the Bride”), claiming that it was “cheerful but not obscene, sad but not hurtful” and believed that sadness and joy generate each other and adapt to each other. Confucius clearly distinguished beauty from goodness, and the combination of beauty and goodness that he adheres to is actually based on the reverence of morality.

Abstract:
A good business to consumer environment can be developed through the creation of intelligent software agents (Guan, Zhi, & Maung, 2004; Soltysiak & Crabtree, 1998) to fulfill the needs of consumers patronizing online e-commerce stores (Guan, 2006). This includes intelligent filtering services (Chanan, 2001) and product brokering services (Guan, Ngoo, & Zhu, 2002) to understand a user’s needs before alerting the user of suitable products according to his needs and preference. We present an approach to capture user response toward product attributes, including nonquantifiable ones. The proposed solution does not generalize or stereotype user preference but captures the user’s unique taste and recommends a list of products to the user. Under the proposed approach, the system is able to handle the inclusion of any unaccounted attribute that is not predefined in the system, without reprogramming the system. The system is able to cater to any unaccounted attribute through a general description field found in most product databases. This is useful, as hundreds of new attributes of products emerge each day, making any complex analysis impossible. In addition, the system is selfadjusting in nature and can adapt to changes in user preference.

Abstract:
The focus of the article, Letter to Wu Jizhong (Yu Wu Jizhong shu, 与吴季重书), a sample of Jian’an epistolography, is a message sent by Cao Zhi (曹植, 192–232) to his friend Wu Zhi (吴质). The article contains the translation and analysis of Letter to Wu Jizhong, which has not been studied in Russian sinology yet. Letter to Wu Jizhong is to be considered only in the light of Letter in response to Cao Zhi by Wu Zhi (Da Dong’e wang shu, 答东阿王书). Letter to Wu Jizhong is analyzed as an oratorical speech in writing. The analysis is based on classical rhetorical theories, mainly on Aristotle’s theory of rhetoric. In each of the 3 parts of the Letter… we highlight its subject, theme, problem, thesis, goal (elements of the Inventio). The oratory of the Letter… is epideictic and deliberative. “The topos of Size”, i. e., exaggeration, contributes to the grotesque-satirical effect.
