Abstract:

Based on consultation of literature, survey of herbarium specimens (including type material) and observations of living plants in the wild, we demonstrate that Clematis alopecuros (Ranunculaceae), recently described from Zhuxi county in western Hubei, China, is not essentially different from C. hastata in any characters and most readily distinguishable by a unique array of characters in the Chinese Clematis. We therefore place C. alopecuros in synonymy with C. hastata herein.
