Conducting binary-exchange experiments is a common way to identify cationic preferences of exchangeable phases in soil. Cation exchange reactions and thermodynamic studies of Pb2+/Ca2+, Cd2+/Ca2+, and Zn2+/Ca2+were carried out on three surface (0–30 cm) soil samples from Adamawa and Niger States in Nigeria using the batch method. The physicochemical properties studies of the soils showed that the soils have neutral pH values, low organic matter contents, low exchangeable bases, and low effective cation exchange capacity (mean: 3.27 cmolc kg−1) but relatively high base saturations (≫50%) with a

Self-exchange electron transfer rates between π-radical cations of zinc porphyrins and the neutral metalloporphyrins have been determined from the line-width broadening in the ESR spectra in different solvents at various temperatures. Fine tuning of the substituent on the porphyrin ring and the proper choice of the solvent have enabled us to observe negative activation enthalpies for the self-exchange electron transfer reactions. The observation of negative activation enthalpies indicates that the self-exchange electron transfer occurs via the charge-transfer π-complexes formed between zinc po

A low value of the degree of cation exchange is observed for Mg. This is due to the large hydration shell of magnesium, which adversely affects the cation exchange. We report the solid-state structure of an unexpected trinuclear zinc dimeric porphyrin complex resulting of zinc insertion into a single strap porphyrin. The latter bears an overhanging carboxylic acid which usually interacts with metal cations either in out-of-plane (OOP) or in hanging-atop (HAT) coordination mode by changing its location above the porphyrin coordination site. However, in the present studies, the overhanging carboxylic group acts as a bidentate ligand and binds the OOP-bound zinc cation together with another zinc cation bridging two porphyrin units.

Abstract Manganese from natural water sources causes deposition and associated corrosion problems in municipal and industrial water systems, particularly where chlorination is employed. Polymers are used to limit the precipitation of iron/manganese and manganese salts. Evidence for solubilization of manganese salts by polymeric and molecular agents has also been obtained. Factors such as dosage and composition have a significant impact on the performance of polymers. A polymer’s ability to perform effectively is also significantly affected by operating conditions such as temperature, pH, iron:

Abstract Cold rolled steel panels with three levels of surface carbon contamination were zinc phosphated and coated with an anionic or a cationic electroprimer and a conventional topcoat system. The steel coating interface in the various stages of processing was studied with surface analysing instruments. Also, the interface after corrosion tests was investigated. Several corrosion tests were performed on duplicate sets of testpanels at Hoogovens and at Sikkens. The corrosion results in the saltspray test and in the scab test are almost contradictory. It is suggested that whereas the lacquer d

The water-in-salt method, recognized for regulating metal ion solvation structure, garners attention in secondary batteries for its potential to broaden the electrolyte's operational range and reduce side reactions. However, the understanding of how anion size variations impact metal ion solvation structure remains limited. This study addresses the gap by employing mixed electrolytes with diverse anion sizes, investigating the effects of electrolyte concentration and anion size on the solvation structure of zinc cations crucial in electrochemical reactions. Layered Double Hydroxide (LDH) is ionic clay that is characterized by the union of metal cations and OH- hydroxides. LDH composites exhibit considerably high releasing and recharging capacity and have applications as bioactive cements. They can be prepared by direct co-precipitation of metal salts at controlled pH. The preparation is carried out from an acid solution of Zn (NO3)2.6H2O, Al (NO3)3.9H2O and a basic solution of Na2CO3 and NaOH, with a Zn/Al ratio = 3, the pH is stabilized between 9 and 9.5 at a constant temperature of 45°C. The p-tert-butylsulfonylcalix[4]arene and sulfonycalix[4]arene conformers have been obtained by AM1 geometry optimizations. The structural cavities of p-tert-butylsulfonylcalix[4]arene and sulfonylcalix[4]arene conformers of which phenol groups are bridged by sulfonyl sulfur have been compared to the calix[4]arene and thiacalix[4]arene. The conformational energies of p-tert-butylsulfonylcalix[4]arene have been compared with the energies of sulfonylcalix[4]arene, calix[4]arene and thiacalix[4]arene. Abstract:
The presence of metallic ions has been established to inhibit DNA Taq Polymerase, a key component for the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), making amplification challenging when trying to generate a DNA profile of bullet handler transferred DNA, commonly called touch DNA from the unfired bullet casing surface. The goal of this research is to determine the amount of various bivalent cations such as Copper (Cu+2) and Zinc (Zn+2), which are suspected PCR amplification reaction inhibitors. A known concentration (0.1ng/µL) of liquid standardized human DNA, the total amount (1 ng, 3 ng, and 5 ng) was
