Lead-Zirconate-Titanate Pb(Zr,Ti)O₃ (PZT) based actuators are evaluated by automotive industry for advanced fuel-injection systems, including hydrogen injection. However, hydrogen can have deleterious effect on the PZT's functionality and properties. The general objective of this work is to study the interactions between PZT and hydrogen. The results of long-term (200-1200 hours) high-pressure (10 MPa) hydrogen exposure on the PZT microstructure show that hydrogen has only superficial effects on the microstructure of bare PZT. This work is focused on Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations of oxygen vacancy diffusion barriers in mixed perovskite lead zirconate titanate and its pure counterparts. abstract: A piezoelectric transducer, comprised of electroded and active pad PZT layer atop a backing PZT layer and protected with an acoustic matching layer, and operating under a pulse-echo technique for longitudinal ultrasonic imaging, acts as both source and detector. Ultrasonic transducer stacks (modules), which had failed or passed during pulse-echo sensitivity testing, were received from Consortium X. With limited background information on these stacks, the central theme was to determine the origin(s) of failure via the use of thermal and physicochemical characterization techniques.

Pb(Zr₀.₅₂Ti₀.₄₈)O₃ (PZT) thin films are of interest for their large dielectric permittivity, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties. The material has been widely studied for use in high frequency transducers, multi-layered capacitors, and ferroelectric random access memory. Copper foils are an inexpensive, flexible substrate with a low resistivity which makes them ideal for many transducer and capacitor applications. PZT thin films on copper foils were produced by RF sputtering and crystallized under reducing conditions. Causes and prevention of a cuprous oxide interlayer are discussed. T

The word piezo in greek means \to compress". Piezoelectric sensors work on the principle of direct piezoelectric effect, where a mechanical input generates a corresponding electric charge. The advantages of these sensors are wide fre-quency range of operation, high stiffness and small size. The main limitation of a piezoelectric sensor is that it cannot be used in measurements that are truly static. When a piezoelectric sensor is subjected to a static force, a fixed amount of charge is developed which would eventually decay at a rate dependent on the external impedance of the sensor circuitry.
