The spatial processes of marginalization and ghettoization have been described, labeled, and theorized extensively in the United States and Europe, yet there has been little research dedicated to these processes in the literature concerning urban Africa. Rather than using prescribed Western concepts, this thesis interrogates the spatial processes of marginalization by beginning with the local and particular - in this case, the Zongo, a fascinating, and understudied historical phenomenon in Ghana. Zongo means "traveler's camp" or "stop-over in Hausa and was used by British Colonial Officers to define the areas in which Muslims lived. Traditionally, the inhabitants of these settlements were Muslims migrating south either for trading purposes or as hired fighters. Today, Zongos have become a vast network of settlements and there is at least one Zongo in every urban center in Ghana. Since these ethnic groups were not indigenous to the territory, it is not surprising that many were historically marginalized. This thesis, therefore, uses history as the primary mechanism by which to dismantle, complicate, re-construct, and understand the Zongo phenomenon - to demonstrate how it has evolved over time - with and against political, economic, and religious forces. Rather than a sweeping comparative approach between settlements, the strategy is to deeply investigate its most extreme case of marginalization - that of the Zongo located in the coastal city of Cape Coast. It seeks to answer what combination of historical and social factors have caused the Cape Coast Zongo to become so marginalized. The research identifies five periods, Imperialism, Segregation, Nationalism, Industrialization, and Globalization, that mark important ideological and political shifts in the history of marginalization in Cape Coast and then examines what themes emerge from this particular historical case that may be generalized for all Zongos. Furthermore, the thesis contributes to larger theoretical discussions explaining how, why, and when ghettoization appears and functions in West Africa.

Full textBefore becoming a city (lome) during the colonization, alome was just a little village. The town, now, is brought under two forces: town-development by local government in a case, and some practices inherted from rural circle, in another one. So, several problems such as earth management, dwelling, health, planning, refuse collection and various systems, are still usually sustained by the population. Zongo, an unpermanent relay, changed in a legal quarter but kept out of the town-circle, is the best example of deficient space-control in lome

Full textThis thesis focuses on the "event" that constituted the "death suspicious" of a journalist from Burkina Faso December 13, 1998, the collective emotions aroused by the sudden disappearance and the vast movement of indignation and social protest worn by various players demanding "truth and justice". The central argument is that the vast protest movement that triggers exceeds the only claim justice for the journalist and is more generally used by a discussion of the moral order of the Burkinabe state community. The continued analytical project is then to make this "event", became "the Norbert Zongo affair", an analyzer of the popular revolt caused by the "tragic death". The thesis is organized around three main parts. The first is both a perspective layout of the object "event", a set of theoretical and epistemological questions, and a description of figures that draws the event in the local space. In the second, the individual path of Zongo and the social dynamics of the community illuminate each other and illuminate the historical, social and political events, as well as concerns that configure. Finally, "the time zongo", the third part, continues the analysis of the layout and meaning of the event began in the first part. It consists in observing three main arenas, while having relative autonomy, interpenetrating in the course of a dynamic claim of justice, which will take the name of the movement Enough is enough

The period of greatest occurrence of fires in South America, from August to October, coincides with seasonal changes in atmospheric circulation that favor the transportation and deposition of black carbon on the Andean glaciers. In order to evaluate the potential impact of the black carbon emitted by the fires in the Amazon over these glaciers, we modeled the emission of BC, its transport and deposition on the Zongo glacier, the change in glacier albedo and the resulting Ice / snow mass loss, during 2 critical years, 2007 and 2010. The emission values for these years in the Amazon basin were 34 and 26 Gg for the peaks in September, and 51 and 76 Gg annual. These values were used for modeling the emission, transport, deposition and loss of ice/snow due to black carbon. The estimated albedo reduction were 2.5-5%, which resulted in a loss of ice / snow mass of 3.0-6.5 kg / m² per year, equivalent to an increase of 2-4,5% annual ice / snow mass loss. The estimated ice/snow loss due to Amazon fire emission can be observed in the Zongo's discharge during august and september. The retreat of the front of the glacier presented a direct relation with the deforestation and the number of fires events in South America. Periods with the highest retreat rates coincided with the years of major events of burning and deforestation.

Full textThe paper analyzes the ZnS thin films obtained by vacuum evaporation. Research carried out by scanning probe microscopy. The structure of thin layers surface is investigated and the quality of the production method is assessed. Measuring the voltage dependence of currents at different sample temperatures concluded voltage characteristics (VACh), thus the conduction mechanism of ZnS films was determined. Estimated thermal activation energy is 0.64 eV. It was found that the electrical current of the investigated structure is determined by tunneled electron jumps from the semiconductor surface states in the presence of phonons. Experiments results show that the ZnS layers produced by vacuum evaporation method are characterized by large surface irregularities.

Full textModification of the properties of solid state structures, used for gas sensing is important task in making detection and measurement systems of volatile chemical compounds. These properties depend on material, inner structure and interaction with gas atmosphere. In hybrid materials (solid-biomolecular) biochemical recognition plays important role in gas sensing mechanism. In this work the methodologies of the SPM was applied for characterization of the local point and local area properties in the gas sensitive MO films with the nanoscaled thickness that can be used for nanosystems and hybrid materials in novel types of chemical detectors. In this dissertation morphology and physical properties of metal oxide films with thickness from a few to about 50 nm was investigated and described a relationship between the gas response and film thickness. It was experimentally shown that effects of external influence on the properties of the surface nanostructures can be described by the specific characteristics of the scanning probe spectroscopy displaying the dependences of the probe contact electric current on both the probe potential and the probe pressing force. An original method based on the SPM probe controlled electrical current was proposed for the formation of nanosystems with various electrical properties on the surfaces of thin MO films.

Ther thesis aims to organize Hou Zong-Sheng's travelling sentiment and homesickness through her works. By reading her prose intensively, the researcher further categorizes it into three main sections. The first section explores the history of her creation in life-- by realizing her age and background, we construct Hou's position in history of feministic literature in great time, and find her memory penetrating through four places, Tong County, Beijing, Taiwan and United States by means of appreciating pictures. The second section discusses Hou Zong-Sheng's thoery on homesickness, which is divided into "Memory of Old Friends/Homeland", "Re-occurrence of Memory of Traveler's Homeland", "Cuisine and Beijing opera: History of Beijing's Past Luxury". In respect of the third section "Expression Theory of Hou Zong-Sheng's Prose" is classified into "Construction of Old City Space", "Molding of Character's Image", "usage of Common Language". Such theory represents her creative expression methods in constructing the prose works, which turns into development of rhetoric-- emotions in spirit and actions in words.

Abstract We investigated the impact of Hua Zong Literary Award (HZLA) held from 1991 to 2011 on Chinese Malaysia literary in this study. The special and tight relationship among Chinese, Chinese newspaper, Chinese community in Malaysian society were represented in the second chapter, where the support to HZLA by Sin Chew Daily was discussed from the view points of historical context and development of Sin Chew Daily. We compared Hua Zong cosmopolitan Chiense Literary Award (HZCCLA) with The Nobel Prize in Literature in the chapter three and we also compared HZLA with China Times Literary Award and with United Daily News Literary Award, separatively, according to their essay approaches and review systems, in which the differences in operating system and breakthrough of HZCCLA and HZLA were described. In the chapter four, we further studied four winning entries of HZLA, including reportage, fiction, prose, and poetry according to “a field of force” theory of and Bourdieuru and “Equipe” theory of Escarpit. We found that the power struggle and personal view have existed in the comments of final review of HZLA committees. We then reported how team members (Equipe) of literary writers were altered or reorganized and how literary trend was formed because of those award comments made by HZLA committees. In chapter five, we discussed how excellent writers who obtain many literature awards in Malaysia and Taiwan can be generated from the Chinese Malaysians cultured in Taiwan. Finally, we summarized those important conclusions of this thesis in chapter six. Key words: Hua Zong Literary Award (HZLA), Hua Zong cosmopolitan Chiense Literary Award (HZCCLA), Sin Chew Daily, Power struggle, Equipe

Mr. Zong Xian Zheng is awarded the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Modern Children’s Literture Awards laurelled by Chiu Ko Publishing Co., Ltd, and the awards from more than thirty kinds of solicit articles competitions in the late ten years. Among the awards of Taiwan Children’s literary creation, Zong Xian Zheng can be called as an expert of Children’s Literture, and his works in children’s literary creation was quite an accomplishment. Through this research, I hope some meaningful records, and proofs for the History of Taiwan Children’s Literary can be remained. The point of this research is mainly on Zong Xian Zheng’s youth novels. Other than visiting and interviewing Mr. Zong Xian Zheng, understanding his background, thoughts and track of creation, it is also interesting to discuss the writer, who determined to write Taiwanese local stories and the features of his works. I try to deeply comprehend the subjects, images of characters, narrations and researching of subjects in Zong Xian Zheng’s youth novels through the angle of literature. There are seven chapters in this study, and the subjects and contents are as follows: Chapter One is the Introduction, representing articles of researching motive and background, purpose and questions of researching, discussing of reference, methods and process of researching, range and limitation of researching. The way of analyzing texts is the main method of treating works, but since the references of researching Zong Xian Zheng is very less, the method of interviewing other writers will be used as well. Chapter Two is mainly discussing the trace of the writer’s growing, thoughts and his track of creation, and the introduction of his works. Through the angles of subject selection and analysis, family presenting, subjects of culture and school, Chapter Three is going to discuss how Zong Xian Zheng chose subjects for his youth novels. Chapter Four will be discussing the images of the characters in Zong Xian Zheng’s youth novels, including images of teenagers, females, elders and parents. Through the angles of narrating, arranging actions, recounting technique, Chapter Five is researching the narration of Zong Xian Zheng’s youth novels. Chapter Six will be researching the subjects of Zong Xian Zheng’s youth novels. From the meaning of subject and analysis, to find out if it communicates with the big three major subjects along with the long-lived human history offered by Bertrand Arthur William Russell, and discussing the subjects of self-conflict of conflict with others and nature earth. Chapter Seven is the Conclusion. I am going to generalize Zong Xian Zheng’s personal features of creations among his works.

The novels of Long Ying-Zong are very different from other writers’ work in the colonization period of Japan . They are very artistic and esthetic.Realism was the mainstream thinking during that time, but Long Ying-Zong was open mind to accept new skills of writing and creating. What he did is trying every forms of writing and it made his works more diverse and outstanding by describing people and actions. This thesis takes Long Ying-Zong as an object. First of all, the fictions of 《The Complete of Long Ying-Zong 》are principal .In the second hand and Long Ying-Zong‘s notes, poems, comments, letters and his diary are auxiliary. Beside that, some records of seminar, news, interpretations and researches related to Long Ying-Zong are the scope of this thesis as well.Discussions of this topic, choosing special and meaning subjects to discussed .However , this thesis includes the issue of Long Ying-Zong’s reading experience and analysis of Japanese and Western literatures he studied . i.e. the concerns from Long Ying-Zong for woman, the deep ideology of death , population integration, and the modernization of Taiwan. This thesis offers a new angle from reading experience of Long Ying-Zong’s novels and the trend of literary thoughts to think over the features of Long Ying-Zong’s novles. Furthermore, applying the influence of Western in the literary circles of Taiwan to investigate Long Ying-Zong’s writing style.Overall, Long Ying-Zong’s novels are the classics of Taiwan literature, but there were few researchers and critics to judge his work with esthetics without ideology. This thesis tried to use aesthetic experience showed from Long Ying-Zong’s work as main concept and the point of views of modernistic literatures and novels are the secondary. Using these sources to explain Long Ying-Zong’s achievements and reappear the contribution and values to his works.

士/shi/, 謀士/mou shi/,策士(tse shi) ( scholar who provide good idea, plans or strategies to king or power politicians) is a highly influential social class in Pre-Qin dynasty, those people are intelligent, talented, and self-actualization, possess a very strong desire to fulfillment; Accomplish both success and fame is their philosophy, standard and values. It echoes the old saying, “Officialdom is the natural outlet for good scholars”. In the spring and autumn period, there is the special implication that a士/shi/ make an official, it is not only for power, fortune, and fame, or social participation and social caring. Be an official is just a method; the concept behind this is the there is the only way to achieve their political ideals by becoming the trusted subordinate of the King and other powerful politicians. During the warring states period of china, the conflict of the domestic, diplomacy, and military affairs are keep happing between each states. Diplomatic power is the important role to deal these complicated situations, however the person’s talent is the key to diplomatic power. Thus, person’s talent and intelligent are attract the special attention. Liu Zongyuan’s landscape literature won high praise from the Sung to the Ching Dynasty. Most studies of Liu Zongyuan’s literature concentrate on his landscape prose. By comparison, his landscape poetry has long been left in disregard. For this reason, this thesis focuses specifically on Liu Zongyuan’s landscape poetry, and investigates the interrelation between the poet and the landscape in the poetry, its rhetoric, and the formation of Liu’s style. I hope this study would reveal the peculiarities and accomplishment of Liu Zongyuan’s poetry. This thesis adopts a variety of method from different disciplines. The spatial experience in Liu’s landscape poetry is analyzed by recent studies on atmosphere and object-chanting poetry on the one hand, and cognitive linguistics’ redefinition of metaphor on the other. The expression and formation of style is expounded through study in rhetoric and other related theories of psychology and aesthetics. Besides, in order to define the characteristics of Liu Zongyuan’s work, I also compare Liu Zongyuan’s landscape poetry with that of other poets, such as Wang Wei、Meng Hao-ran and Wei Ying-wu. This thesis consists of five chapters and a conclusion. Chapter 1, the preface, explains the motive, range and methodology of this thesis. It also clarifies the relevance of this thesis with other studies of Liu’s literature, and introduces the creative background of Liu Zong-yan’s literature. Chapter 2 and 3 studies respectively the formation and the transformation of atmosphere, and the genesis and the projection of perception. In Chapter 4, I investigate how Liu Zongyuan conveys his personal experience into poetry. Chapter 5 studies the style of his poetry and its formation. In the Conclusion, I summarize my discoveries in preceding chapters, and raise certain related questions which require further investigation.

This analysis aims to explore a series of transmedia artworks the author has conducted from 2015 to 2019. After casually and intuitively selecting materials from mass culture or art history, the author tries to understand the works that are difficult to interpret from the perspective of glitch. After the literacy survey concerning glitch in mass culture and art history, the author finds the concept of "flow" which makes glitch depart from mechanical toward social traits. It is confirmed that the glitch is not only a visual vocabulary, but also auditory and ideology. Therefore, the author assumes that the glitch is a "style" breaking both form and content so the artworks are analyzed. After some sorting, however, it still cannot satisfy the overly emphasized external form in the artworks. As a result, the author adopts Sontag's concept of "stylization" and finds the sensory surface in the artworks close to Camp. The author explores the attempt of his own works from two aspects, discovering a tendency to presuppose being misread by the viewer, and a kind of sensuality to escape judgment. At last, this analysis summarizes tactics of the glitch practice into a gesture of facing the binary oppositions of cultural phenomena, between kitsch and elegance, between resistance and discipline, etc. The author expects this analysis for giving the author new creative directions in the future.

Based on the forms of sculpture creation, I try to study the spiritual implication of subculture and present creative thoughts in life experience by 3D works. This creation attempts to probe into the correlation between artistic creation and life essence, and how abstract forms and symbolic techniques present creation in subculture themes. Thus, three serial works, Chao Jen Tan Sheng, Pu Ke Kao, spiritual remains are created. The purposes of this creation are: 1) to probe into the relationship between artistic creation and spiritual essence; 2) to find how to present subculture themes by abstract and symbolic techniques; 3) to clarify my future creation directions by studying theories and works. Based on the purposes above, I compare the creation statements of various types of art, psychological analysis and literatures of theoretical studies and philosophy as the criteria of theory of my creation. Through artistic creation, I have reflection and practice to establish the presentation upon inner self and subculture elements. The conclusions are shown below: 1) through artistic creation, I recognize the change of inner self, review my inner thoughts and transcend myself; 2) by symbolic presentation, I directly demonstrate the inner implication and meanings of the works; 3) through creation, I recognize my shortage of techniques or thoughts. The main point of this research is to analyze and study the calligraphy art of Sie Zong-an in three ways: socio-artistic method, historical method, and style-modal method. The contents of this dissertation starts with the background of Sie’s calligraphic creation. Then it explains the notion of Sie’s calligraphy art and analyzes his works profoundly. Thus, readers can understand the initiation, development and characteristics of Sie’s calligraphy. Last, it talks about the achievement and the influences of Sie’s calligraphy. The purposes of this research are: A. Discussing the background of Sie’s calligraphic creation. B. Explaining the notion of Sie’s calligraphy art. C. Analyzing Sie’s calligraphy by style 、periods and characteristics. D. Concluding Sie’s achievement and his influences upon calligraphy in Taiwan. According to my research, here’s the conclusion below: I. The Confucian background of Sie’s family education had deeply influenced his notion of calligraphy art, which is the fusion of theory and art. His calligraphy was derived from the “Northern Inscription,” so he venerated the inscriptions on stone tablets. He insisted that creation should be based on tradition. Therefore, he worked hard on the heritage and enhancement of “Northern Inscription.” II. The four periods of Sie’s calligraphic style changing are: 1. Widely-learning period (before 1976---before his 70): He learned widely from the inscriptions on stone tablets and many other scripts. His style was to follow the tradition and to write with strength. 2. Integrating and discovering period (1976~1986---between his 70 and 80): He focused his attention on “running-cursive script.” 3. Exclusive creating period (1986~1996---between his 80 and 90): He created “compound clerical script” which is the most representative script of his top calligraphy art. 4. Free “running-regular” period (after 1996---after his 90): His “running-regular script” revealed the tranquil style of his late years. III. From Sie’s management on using hair pens, constructing words, and total-arranging, we can observe his unrestrained strength, grand figure, and powerful style in his works. His “running-cursive script,” compound clerical script,” and the latest”running-regular script” all adapted from ancient scripts but in the meantime created his own exclusively powerful style. He is actually a practical doer of the “Northern Inscription.” IV. Sie began his calligraphy teaching career after his retirement till he passed away in his ninety-first year. He had taught over three thousand students during twenty-five years. He propagated and disseminated calligraphy art by teaching is, organizing”Olive Studio for Calligraphy Study,” and then enlarging the studio into “Chinese Calligraphy Society.” Its influences are so enormous that it can be called the biggest apprentice calligraphy society. With its advocating and contribution, the learning of calligraphy art in Taiwan has achieved abundant accomplishment.
