Abstract:
The article examines the vocal function of zootropes on the basis of lexicographic sources – “Russian Semantic Dictionary” (ed. by N. Shvedova), “The Big Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language” (ed. by S. Kuznetsov) and data from the Russian National Corpus. The paper presents the features of the use of lexical units in terms of gender, as well as new cases of the use of zootropes in the late 20th – early 21st centuries. The main derivational model of change in zoomorphic vocatives is revealed.

This paper adopts an ecological perspective to investigate the visual and material remains associated with the Xianbei people, a nomadic group active in Northeast Asia from the turn of the common era to the early medieval period. Through the study of metal plaques bearing animal motifs and the environmental contexts of these artworks, I articulate the entangled relationship between humans, animals, and nature. More specifically, this research highlights three groups of zoomorphic designs, including the deer, the horse, and the human–animal juxtaposition. By investigating the stylistic changes

The potential for social robots to provide assistance to those in need continues to increase though optimal design for user acceptance and engagement continues to be elusive. The design of social robots for user motivation specifically has not been well researched yet evidence does indicate that virtual agents can be motivational. Theory of mind and social facilitation research points to the motivational potential of social robots. This study examines the effect of human-like appearance (i.e. anthropomorphism) on the effectiveness of motivational messages. Results indicate that images of human

Metaphor is a unique phenomenon both from the point of view of language and culture, for it preserves unique relic forms of the surrounding reality perception. At present, when modern conditions of people’s lives are transformed, metaphor, as a way of realization of hidden comparison, undergoes a number of qualitative changes. In this regard, it will be relevant to turn to metaphor functioning in folklore texts, because due to its conservatism we can identify archetypal images underlying the hidden comparison. This article examines the features of zoomorphic metaphor in Russian folk riddles. T

In this article, the author proposes a method for the consistent acquaintance of Russian students studying the Japanese language by way of zoonymes and zoomorphic metaphors based on the example of the transcription of Aesop’s fable “The Dragonfly and the Ant”. In the Japanese transcription, instead of the zoonyme “dragonfly”, another zoonyme “grasshopper” is used. In addition, in Japanese linguistic culture, there are two versions of the fable. In one version, the ants refuse to help the grasshopper, and he dies. In another version, the ants help the grasshopper, and he lives through the winte
