Abstract:
Selected strains of Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus produce a bacteriocin-like inhibitory substance called zoocin A. Zoocin A has bacteriolytic activity against closely related species of streptococci, including the etiological agents of dental caries and Streptococcus pyogenes. Zoocin A functions to hydrolyse the peptidoglycan of bacterial cell walls. Producer-cell immunity to zoocin A is encoded by zif, the zoocin A immunity factor. The zooA-zif gene locus is chromosomally encoded and flanked by two transposon-like sequences with significant similarity to the lss-lif locus encoding lysostaphin in Staphylococcus simulans. This suggested the possibility that the zooA-zif locus was acquired by S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus through a horizontal gene transfer event. Studies conducted to examine this hypothesis were unable to establish the mechanism by which zooA-zif was acquired. Examination of 24 S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus strains using random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis and pulse field gel electrophoresis showed that the species was highly heterogeneous. Examination of the 24 strains using Southern hybridisation revealed only three S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus strains contained the zooA and zif genes; however the partial open reading frames (flaR and rgg-like) flanking zooA and zif appeared to be conserved in all tested strains. Long template PCR was used to examine this chromosomal area containing the zooA and zif genes in 24 S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus strains. These results, along with comparison of sequence data from two zoocin A producing strains, and analysis of the sequenced S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus H70 and S. equi subsp. equi 4047 genomes showed the area surrounding the zooA-zif locus to be one of considerable genetic variation substantiating the hypothesis that zooA-zif were acquired via horizontal gene transfer. Studies on zoocin A production suggested that zooA expression was under carbon catabolite regulation, (CCR). In the Gram-positive bacteria CCR, is mediated by the carbon catabolite control protein (CcpA). CcpA is a DNA binding protein that can negatively regulate transcription of its target gene by binding to a catabolite-responsive element (CRE). This study reports the regulation of zif and zooA expression in response to cellular growth on different carbon sources, the presence of a ccpA-like gene in the genome of S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus, the presence of a CRE sequence in the promoter region of zooA, and the effect of a ccpA deletion on zooA expression. Zoocin A activity, zooA and zif mRNA transcript levels, and zooA and zif reporter gene activities were monitored during growth of S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus 4881 in a pH-controlled batch culture system. Zoocin A titres were maximal when the bacteria were grown on a starch-based medium and minimal when grown on a glucose-based medium. Northern hybridization showed that zif was constitutively expressed during growth regardless of the carbon source available. In contrast, zooA was transcribed at low levels in cells grown on a glucose-based medium but at much higher levels in cells grown on a starch-based medium. Use of a zooA promoter-chloramphenicol acetyl transferase (CAT) reporter demonstrated that zooA expression increased 17-fold in cells grown on a starch-based medium. Use of a zif promoter-CAT reporter showed that in cells grown on a starch-based medium zif was transcribed approximately 4 times as strongly as in cells grown on glucose. Transcription of zif was always much less than that of zooA. A ccpA deletion mutant appeared to exhibit complete de-repression of zooA under all growth conditions. Together these data showed that zoocin A expression was regulated in response to the carbon source on which the bacteria were grown.

Abstract:
Cosmological “zoom-in” simulations are a modern class of numerical simulations with many interesting uses. In zooms an area of interest, such as a galaxy, is resolved to a high degree, while it’s surroundings are left at a coarser resolution to relieve the computational burden. Here I review some recent studies using zoom simulations and discuss the benefits and potential of zoom simulations compared to regular numerical simulations as well as semianalytic models. I will focus on the advantages of the increased resolution in zooms, such as the ability to resolve giant molecular clouds and to better model high redshift galaxies.

Abstract:
The zoom lens, originally invented for advanced optical instruments, soon came into use in the field of still photography before being adapted to the motion picture camera. It is a development that brought an end to the stability and the transparency of the image in favor of movement and visibility within that same image. To make use of a zoom to give the impression of a tracking shot is to propagate a form of perceptual illusionism, which is why I choose to consider the zoom as the passage from an image to the enlargement (or shrinking) of that very image. The zoom is fundamentally an image of an image that is to be understood in light of new concepts such as central framing, descriptive long takes, the flattening of the image, and the virtual frame within a frame. While evoking the notion of duplication, the connection between the image and its referent is to be questioned: an image made by a zoom lens is one of resemblance, as it is characterized by the gap that is formed between the image and its origin. It engenders an imaginary center as a form of fiction, or on the contrary, is marked by reality. It is in this sense that the zoom creates images that stare back at the spectator, rendering him conscious of his own gaze. One could evoke Brunelleschi’s experiment, which used a mirror so that one is observed by his own gaze in the "distance" of a painting in perspective, thus drawing in the gaze of the painter, confronting him with his double, his image. The zoom, like the notion of perspective, is also a metaphor for vision: it produces the image of an object that is shaped by the image of the gaze. The image of the zoom, a sign to be decrypted, substitutes reality by doubling it, yet is also vowed to disappear behind an image of reality. We are confronted with the idea that reality can be called on to vouch for the image, and that the image has the capacity to create reality

Since zooming consists not only in intrinsic parameters variations, but also in an optical center position translation such a camera is of interest considering both the geometric properties of such a displacement and the contribution to the measure precision. Nonlinear implicit equations are frequently minimized in computer vision either to estimate a parameter from an initial guess ot to refine a previous linear estimation. In such configurations, the local minimum of interest and the initial guess are rather close. We thus present a specific method for the minimization of such nonlinear implicit equations, based on both a complete specification of the parameters and a randomized algorithm. Finally, considering known planar structures allow to recover the 3D position of a plane and to obtain two equations according to the intrinsic parameters

Abstract:

Chang, Matthew Tsu-Yang 1967. "Pupil aberration in modular zoom lens design." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1998. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/288903.

Full text
Abstract:
In any zoom lens, by virtue of the differential motions of lens groups, individual zoom groups experience both conjugate and pupil shifts during zooming. When using a modular design approach, in which lens groups are designed independently, one has to take into account the dynamic aberration matching among lens groups. Deliberate aberration can be introduced to zoom groups to produce an overall compensatory effect over the zoom range. Similarly perfect pupil matching among zoom groups cannot be maintained for a continuum of zoom positions. With the deliberate introduction of pupil aberration on the group level, compensatory effects can be obtained and a more desirable pupil match can be achieved, resulting in better stability of system image performance over the zoom range. The investigation presents a systematic explanation of how intrinsic lens group aberration contents can affect the overall aberrational behavior of mechanically compensated zoom systems. Particularly, the investigation centers around the explicit use of lens group pupil spherical aberration in controlling residual aberrations in zoom lenses. The study explores its capability in controlling the variation of distortion, which is often the dominant residual aberration in zoom systems. Different techniques for implementing explicit pupil spherical aberration control are also explored. The method employed in the study involves the use of black box lens modules. Lens groups are represented by mathematical constructs instead of actual constructional parameters in which individual lens group aberration contents can be manipulated directly. Instead of attempting to model the zoom lens problem analytically, actual ray trace results and well proven facts in aberration theory are relied upon. The method is to use ray trace experiments to substantiate the empirical arguments. Several zoom lens configurations are selected and converted into lens module equivalents. The optimum intrinsic lens group aberration contents are found using global optimization techniques. The aberration behavioral trends are then gathered and the connections between optimum lens group aberration contents and system aberrational behavior are observed. Conclusions are drawn based on the observations and well established results in aberration theory.

Abstract:
Photographic fisheye lenses with fixed focal length for cameras with different sensor formats have been well developed for decades. However, photographic fisheye lenses with variable focal length are rare on the market due in part to the greater design difficulty. This paper presents a large aperture zoom fisheye lens for DSLR cameras that produces both circular and diagonal fisheye imaging for 35-mm sensors and diagonal fisheye imaging for APS-C sensors. The history and optical characteristics of fisheye lenses are briefly reviewed. Then, a 9.2- to 16.1-mm F/2.8 to F/3.5 zoom fisheye lens design is presented, including the design approach and aberration control. Image quality and tolerance performance analysis for this lens are also presented. (C) 2017 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE)

It combines visualization paradigms for good performance like data tiling and prefetching with a database backend that creates spatial indexes for faster querying. This thesis modifies Kyrix to support direct manipulation of datasets through a data visualization. We add bindings to the Kyrix specification that allow the developer to enable updates in a visualization. The user can then interact with the visualization and update the data in order to test a hypotheses, add new data, or fix a data error. We showcase this functionality by implementing three different types of Kyrix visualizations: an NBA timeline visualization, an election forecasting visualization, and a scatter plot visualization of NBA game scores. Jungwirth, Matthew Edward Lewis. "Active Reflective Components for Adaptive Optical Zoom Systems." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/255163.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation presents the theoretical and experimental exploration of active reflective components specifically for large-aperture adaptive optical zoom systems. An active reflective component can change its focal length by physically deforming its reflecting surface. Adaptive optical zoom (AOZ) utilizes active components in order to change magnification and achieve optical zoom, as opposed to traditional zooming systems that move elements along the optical axis. AOZ systems are theoretically examined using a novel optical design theory that enables a full-scale tradespace analysis, where optical design begins from a broad perspective and optimizes to a particular system. The theory applies existing strategies for telescope design and aberration simulation to AOZ, culminating in the design of a Cassegrain objective with a 3.3X zoom ratio and a 375mm entrance aperture. AOZ systems are experimentally examined with the development of a large-aperture active mirror constructed of a composite material called carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP). The active CFRP mirror uses a novel actuation method to change radius of curvature, where actuators press against two annular rings placed on the mirror's back. This method enables the radius of curvature to increase from 2000mm to 2010mm. Closed-loop control maintains good optical performance of 1.05 waves peak-to-valley (with respect to a HeNe laser) when the active CFRP mirror is used in conjunction with a commercial deformable mirror.

Abstract:
This thesis reviews the existing work done on tracking with pan/tilt/zoom cameras and proposes a novel method of multiscale block tracking with perspective cameras using principles and methods from both computer vision and computer graphics. The theory of perspective transforms in 3D graphics is reviewed as well as relating real world cameras to synthetic cameras through camera calibration. Conventional 2D block tracking methods are reviewed and the expanded to track under pan, tilt and zoom conditions. Two methods of pan/tilt/zoom tracking are developed and then applied to blocks and blobs (connected regions of pixels). A novel offline technique of fitting contours to these track points is then explored with and without the presence of pan, tilt and zoom. A method of updating the multiscale reference block is presented and the tracker is evaluated without block updating (feed forward) and with block updating and position filtering. Experimental results for people following are presented using synthetic ray-traced data with absolute ground truth and real sequences taken with a commercial pan/tilt/zoom camera with hand estimated ground truth. All sequences were processed offline, however, with optimisation it appears to be feasible to implement a real-time solution. Applying position filtering and predictions, using a Kalman filter, improves results and robustness. The application of this method to existing vision techniques is discussed as well as the possible methods for real-time implementation of these algorithms.

Abstract:
A multi-scale approach introduces a structural zoom method into a region of interest, called the patch, using only field projection operators. The different behaviours in the patch and in the overall structure are taken into account without using weight parameters between local and global energies such as the Arlequin method. Our initial problem is to digitally reliable the structural zoom method for the linear case, and more precisely to choose a high-performance solver on Krylov spaces, as well as effective preconditioning and ordering adapted to the system to be solved. Once the solver is chosen, this approach is mechanically validated in the mean of two tests, namely traction and shear. A parametric study of the patch is performed to obtain an acceptable solution. The next objective is to extend this approach to regions with heterogeneities of non-linear behaviour. The method has been reached out for elastoplastic behaviour. Initial hypothesis assumes the elastoplastic behaviour only inside the patch and an elastic behaviour of the overall structure as well as of the gluing area. Finally, this approach is validated with different tests including several faults and therefore several patches as well as different loading history

Abstract:
The marketing and distribution of pre-recorded music for sale and public consumption is a cultural development as profound as any in the twentieth-century musical world. It is especially relevant to late-1950s American rock and roll, in terms of the music's capture in the rapidly-evolving environment of the recording studio, its release into the marketplace via independent record labels, and its enthusiastic embrace by the burgeoning youth culture of the era. Within this multi-dimensional context, Zoom Records, a tiny, independent record label, was born in Tucson, Arizona. A unique convergence of technological, artistic, and commercial developments and historical events gives special import to the Zoom Records story, as a lesson in entrepreneurship, artistic expression and personal transformation.

Abstract:
This paper seeks to orientate research on the issues and impacts of pursuing a social innovation approach to development finance and the extent to which it impacts the development of economic, personal and social capital in developing countries. It draws on conceptual ideas around the evolution of development finance from a pure aid perspective to more innovative approaches that seek to increase uptake of development funds where they are needed most (at the base of the pyramid) and reduce fungibility. The paper provides an exploratory case study analysis of attempts by Zoona, a socially innovative private organization in Zambia that is leveraging mobile technology to increase access to finance and financial services to small and micro businesses and the unbanked in Zambia using an agent network. The research was qualitative study and gathered insights from 11 agents and 8 employees through 19 personal interviews. A hybrid approach to thematic analysis was employed in the research and results revealed that whilst Zoona's work was enabling economic and personal growth for the agents it was not necessarily building social capital within communities. The paper concludes with some recommendations on how the concept of socially innovative approaches to development finance, as supplementary forms of distributing development funds to traditional forms, can be improved on when applied by private organizations and local networks to enable the development of economic, personal and social capital and develop the capacity of communities.

One of the reasons for a poor performance of electronic text systems may result from the fact that users avoid reading the whole text and make decisions mostly based on their headings (Fox, 1992). This work proposes the use of a continuous zooming interface attached with a natural language processing system. Aiming to minimize this problem, a computer program capable of analyzing texts written in the most varied natural languages was developed. The computer program permits the user to construct his/her own natural language grammar rules. A second grammar is implemented, this one is for zooming rules. The zooming grammar is used to decide which text element, or text construction, will be visible in which zooming level.<br>A quantidade de textos que cuja leitura é exigida nos dias de hoje é muito grande. The availability of high-pixel count video imaging systems that can cover a wide field-of-view enables a surveillance technique called Virtual Pan-Tilt-Zoom. Virtual Pan-Tilt-Zoom provides the same functional properties as a mechanical pan-tilt-zoom setup, but it does not suffer from the physical limitations presented by a mechanical setup. A video system using Virtual Pan-Tilt-Zoom would have immediate continuous access to a high pixel-count image representing a wide coverage area, and it would enable a user to "virtually" pan, tilt, and zoom around the coverage area by reading out only the relevant image data associated with a Region of Interest that is dynamically defined by the user. This paper will examine the various camera electronics readout architectures that are possible to support the Virtual Pan-Tilt-Zoom function. Then, this project will examine and implement a specific implementation of the readout architecture for a high-resolution video camera system developed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. The Multi-Aperture Sparse Imager Video System (MASIV) developed at MIT Lincoln Laboratory incorporates CMOS imagers to create an 880 Mega pixel image, and was used as the platform to implement the camera electronics for Virtual Pan-Tilt-Zoom functionality.<br>by Richard Sinn.<br>M.Eng.

Abstract:
This diploma thesis is focused on the evaluation of six selected zoonoses with the occurrence in South Bohemia (campylobacteriosis, salmonellosis, listeriosis, tick-borne meningoencephalitis, Lyme borreliosis, tularemia) between the years 2003-2013. Campylobacteriosis and salmonellosis were evaluated the most common zoonoses in the South Bohemian Region during the monitored period. Their common feature is the alimentary transmission. Between 2003 to 2008 salmonellosis recorded the highest number of reported cases, on the contrary, campylobacteriosis has reported the highest number of occurrences since 2008. District of Czech Budweis showed the highest incidence of both zoonoses during the monitored period (4,139 cases of salmonellosis and 4,924 cases of campylobacteriosis). Another but not less important zoonotic is tick-borne meningoencephalitis, which incidence had the highest number in South Bohemian Region of all the regions of Czech Republic. The second part of the thesis is based on questionnaire studies focused on awareness of zoonoses and the issue of resistance and overuse of antibiotics. In total 479 questionnaires were evaluated. The survey findings may be equally described as interesting and positive, since the respondents had considerable awareness of the issue of antibiotic resistance.

The study researches three thematic groups of phytonyms and eight of zoonyms. The research of dialects has a special interest in modern linguistics as they are the constant sources of language innovation and reveal the peculiarities of regional culture, local customs and social way of life. The purpose of this research paper was to study structural (morphological and syntactic), derivational and semantic characteristics of phytonyms and zoonyms in a dialect continuum of Essex, Cumberland and Lancashire in the 18 – 19 centuries. The analyses showed that flora and fauna of the regions studied is variable and rich, especially in grass, vegetables, fruits, berries, flowers, crops, domestic animals, birds, fish, cattle. That shows the pecularities of living and spheres of work which prevail in the studied regions and also proves the stereotypical image of England as of the “green” country with lashy woods and parks. Practical analyses underhold on morphological, structural and semantic level showed that the dominant phytonimic pattern of phytonyms and zoonyms is nominal with one derived stem; one and more stem words are also present.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中央大學<br>光電科學研究所<br>92<br>With the continuous advance in optical technology, Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network will play an important role in wide area backbone networks. Optical wavelength switching, compared with optical packet switching, is a more mature and more cost-effective choice for optical switching technologies. Besides, the technology of time division multiplexing (TDM) in optical communication networks has been working smoothly for a long time. WDM system can full utilize fiber bandwidth and increase transmission capacity that is the most acceptable structure in recent years. In this thesis, we present improved system performance using zoom concave grating. There are two classes of important research issues. The first class focuses on the concave grating can supply WDM with dispersion compensation and focusing image. The N-order diffracted signal light by the blazed grating is directed to the fiber of output and focused on spot size. The second class of problems focuses on the radius of curvature zoom. The change of curvature was made over to the focus point. The effect equals to a channel switch. This study is important since the performance of existing networks can be improved by distribution of data flow rate properties of WDM technologies.

Full text
Abstract:
The work presented in this thesis is mainly based on the discriminative method. Zooming is one of the type of camera motion, it may be global or local. The aim of this thesis is to detect global zoom in the video sequences. Fisher linear discriminant (FLD), which works on the principal of linear discriminant analysis, has been used as the classifier for zoom motion classification in video sequences. The basic motivation behind the choice of FLD is that it mitigates the curse of dimensionality by using projection based approach and reduces the overhead of handling higher dimensional data by projecting it to lower dimension. To counter the outliers due to movement of objects as well as noise due to the encoding strategy which can be present at any location in the motion vector field in the video sequences, a quadrant based strategy has been employed. MLE (maximum likelihood estimator) is used to estimate the statistical parameters like mean and standard deviation of the orientation of MV’s and a novel weighting strategy has been used to counter the skipped macroblocks present in interframe motion field. Along with that mean deviation is used in place of mean which is less sensitive to noise. Scatter plot analysis and mathematical analysis have been carried out for feature selection. Features have been exploited from the orientation of the block motion vectors which renders this method computational advantages. Moreover, with significant maturity of coding standards like H.264 and MPEG-4, video are directly being stored in the compressed formats thereby opening up the area of the compressed domain video analysis. An extension of the proposed method has been carried out for zoom type classification i.e. for zoom-in and zoom-out classification from the identified zoom frames of video. The proposed method may find wide applications in the field of image and/or video processing.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立清華大學<br>動力機械工程學系<br>97<br>The objective of this research is to investigate the feasibility of a zoom system using liquid lens as the active element. Different from the conventional zoom lens which uses moving lens element to perform zoom function, the liquid lens changes system power without movement, which potentially provide a compact solution for zoom system. This research proposes three different types of liquid zoom system which have totally different design concept and system feature, and has its own limit on zoom ratio. The first type is double liquid lens zoom system whose variator and compensator are replaced with liquid lens in traditional movable zoom system. The 1.5× zoom ratio had been achieved by double liquid lens zoom system without any movable component. But the large variation of the liquid surface curvature causes serious aberration and deteriorates image quality. The second one is liquid-compensated movable zoom system. A movable lens performs the zoom function, and a liquid lens is used for correcting the image plane. The principle of smallest change has been applied for reducing the variation of the liquid surface curvature during the zooming process. The 2.5× zoom ratio had been achieved but has still been limited by the variation of the liquid surface curvature, and could not be exceed to 3×. The third one is the combination of liquid lens and the concept of optically compensated zoom system. The zoom ratio could be improved to 4× because the zero-crossing of back focal shift during the zoom process, and the liquid lens is disposed to slightly correct the image plane in accordance. This outcome of the research is a liquid zoom system for two mega-pixel image sensor with 60 degree full viewing angle, 4× zoom ratio and a total track less than 30 mm. The high zoom ratio of 4× is equivalent to digital camera but only one moving group compared with the four or five moving groups of the traditional zoom system. In conclusion, the liquid zoom system provides a compact solution for portable devices such as mobile phone camera and PC camera.

碩士<br>國立成功大學<br>航空太空工程學系碩博士班<br>94<br>In the process of using a digital camera to measure real word objects, the problems we face directly are radial lens distortion, unknown camera model parameters, and gauge of illumination. All those problems will affect the measurement results. When we want to use a digital camera to measure objects, the first step we need to do is to calibrate camera parameters. For an un-calibrated camera computer vision system, it couldn’t measure the real size or even the comparative size of objects. After completing camera calibration, we can obtain the parameters from calibration. With the object image coordinates, we can calculate the real size of the objects. In the traditional measurement of non-zoom camera calibration, the objects can’t be measured or with difficulties in it if the objects are out of the view or the objects are too small to see. We can overcome this problem with changing the focal length parameter. For the non-zoom camera calibration, we use the Zhang method as basis that he putted forth in 1999. In this dissert, we discuss the focal length parameter and systematize it in the calibration model. We separate the focal length parameter from the Zhang calibration camera model, and measure the object size in many different focal lengths. We will prove that it can improve the measurement error when we change the focal length. Finally, we discuss iris and the initial focal length effect to the measure error.

Thus, the canceling not only monochromatic Seidel aberration but also chromatic aberration becomes very complicated. Traditionally, optical designer will follow customer’s need to complete zoom system by solving Gaussian solution of thin lens theory first, i.e. slide trajectory, lens power and magnification. Once the first-order solution can’t fit system request then the Gaussian solution have to be figured out again. In this paper, we will introduce and analysis the zoom theory of one group gradually to two group and finally three group structure. Moreover, we will discuss the aberration balance concepts and chromatic aberration free ideas. Furthermore, fast solution of first-order properties of zoom system utilizing merit function provided by optical design software. In this project, a zoom ratio 3x and 200-mega pixels zoom lens with power - + + arrangement is presented. There are eight lens elements with six glassed and two aspheric plastic lenses in this system. The second group acts as zooming part when changing system effective focal length while the first group operates as a compensator. The characteristics of high-level digital camera, which MTF is larger than 30% under 150 lps/mm and its distortion is small than

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣科技大學<br>機械工程系<br>94<br>With the increasing trends of volume minimization, ways of improving the traditional zoom lens had also been addressed, such as liquid lens and aspheric artificial lens. The main purpose of this research is to offer a new method in using Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), a flexible material for the lens by way of gas-pressure to make the soft lens change its shape or its curvature, which in turns can change effect focal length of soft zoom lens system. This study is aimed at the experimentation of mechanical and optical properties of PDMS. And also to confer the influences of Young’s module, refractive index and Abbe number in different curing parameter. After deciding the mechanical and optical properties of PDMS, the after pressure deformation analysis of soft lens and soft zoom lens optical and mechanical design begin. During the making and the assembly of soft zoom lens, we discovered that when the gas-pressure is between 0~0.02Mpa using PDMS sphere zoom lens, the differences of effect focal length can reach up to 10~15 %. This experiment shows that the relationship between soft zoom lens and its' abilities is strong connected to the shape and the thickness of PDMS soft lens. For future experimentation the research can go towards this particular dimension.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立交通大學<br>多媒體工程研究所<br>102<br>The visualization of vehicle detector (VD) data is essential because the data play an important role in traffic control, policy development, and road situation report. Most previous works focus on visualizing trajectories obtained from global positioning system (GPS), which are detailed but less representative. In contrast, VD data report the statistic traffic information at each sensing site during a period of time, including speed, flow, and occupancy of each lane, which contain thorough traffic information for analysis. In this work, we visualize three-year VD data of freeways in Taiwan. The visualization depicts the traffic situation at a site over time using a sonic glyph that extends from left to right as time goes. The glyphs are vertically stacked and horizontally aligned according to VD's mileage and data time, respectively, to provide global insight. Our system also allows the semantic zoom, which changes the glyph appearance in a continuous manner, to enable overview and detailed visualizations. Analysts can explore events that expand an area with different sizes and that persist a period of time with various lengths. To evaluate the feasibility of our technique, we conducted a user study with experts who work in the freeway bureau and the institute of traffic and transportation. The feedback shows that our VD data visualization is helpful to traffic control and policy development.

博士<br>國立中央大學<br>光電(科學)研究所<br>84<br>A method was developed for solving zoom lens layout. The number moving component is not limited by using this method. The damped least squares method is used for finding the solution of zoom lens and the polynomial equations are used for zoom run during the optimization process. Several constraints are also used for smoothing and minimizing the sensitivity of the system. The solution areas of the three-component afocal zoom system with two moving components are solved. There are totally eight areas which are found by this analytical method. This paper discusses a generalized two-component homotopic zoom system, in which both refractive and reflective systems are The solution areas of refractive and reflective homotopic are classified. The technique for stable aberration correction of zoom systems is described. The position of the zoom is designated the reference position, and the primary aberrations including the spherical aberration and longitudinal chromatic aberration of the pupil, of each component are used as independent variables. The values of these needed for stable correction of the primary aberrations are determined, and the different components are then designed. Two zoom systems are designed in the final section of this paper to witness the total solution of designing a zoom system. The is a 35mm telephoto camera zoom system. The second design is a thermal imager with 4 zooming components.
