This publication contains the text, a Russian translation and an introductory article of the least known of the three elder versions of the Old Icelandic historical work ‘The Book of Set-tlements’ (Landnámabók) – Melabók. It has been preserved as a fragment of less than two parchment leaves in quarto from the esrly 15th century (part of the codex AM 445b 4to). Photo-copies of the manuscript leaves are attached. Opprinnelseslegenden Frá Fornjóti ok hans ættmönnum ‘Om Fornjot og slektningene hans’ er bevart i to versjoner i Flateyjarbók, et kjent islandsk samlehåndskrift fra trettenhundretallet. Legenden følger opprinnelsen til forskjellige norske og orknøyske dynastier tilbake til to brødre som heter Nórr og Górr. Den antatt yngste versjonen, «Nórrversjonen», er representert av en tekst som heter Hversu Noregr byggðist ‘Hvordan Norge ble bygd’. Í þessari grein er fjallað um hlutverk Ólafs helga Haraldssonar (d. 1030) í ættfræði norrænna dýrlinga. Við rannsóknir á norskri konungstign hefur komið fram hvernig Ólafur gegndi lykilhlutverki við að tryggja lögmæti krafna um völd allt frá elleftu öld til þrettándu aldar. En Ólafur var einnig nýttur til að réttlæta staðfestingu á heilagleika dýrlinga síðar meir. Þessi rannsókn snýst um tvo dýrlinga af því tagi: Hallvarð helga Vébjörnsson (d. um 1043) frá austurhluta Noregs og Magnús helga Orkneyjajarl (d. 1116/17).
