तुलसीदास जी का समस्त साहित्यिक चिंतन अपने समय और समाज का जीवंत दस्तावेज है। उन्होंने अपने चिंतन के माध्यम से मध्यकालीन परिस्थितियों को उकेरा है साथ ही जनमानस के बीच समन्वय का मार्ग प्रस्तुत किया। संसार को जानने की बात लेकर तुलसीदास कविता में प्रवृत्त होते हैं। इससे आगे बढ़कर एक आम मनुष्य की बात करते हैं, और इसे आदर्श मनुष्य तक पहुँचाते हैं।

Acharya Ramchandra Shukla had divided the history of Hindi literature into four parts Drveeragathakaal, Bhaktikal, Ritikal and Modern period.
