This study aimed to investigate the associations between carbohydrate intake and gout risk, along with interactions between genetic susceptibility and carbohydrates, and the mediating roles of biomarkers. We included 187,387 participants who were free of gout at baseline and completed at least one dietary assessment in the UK Biobank. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate the associations between carbohydrate intake and gout risk. Over a median follow-up of 11.69 years, 2548 incident cases of gout were recorded. Abstract Total nonstructural carbohydrates (TNC) in plant tissue are underestimated by single enzyme (a-amylase or glucoamylase) extraction and overestimated by mild acid hydrolysis. A combination of glucoamylase and mycolase degraded starch completely to glucose at 60°C and pH 4.9. This dual enzyme extraction procedure was effective in determining TNC in plant tissues that do not accumulate fructosans. One reason is that intake of carbohydrates affect the blood glucose level to different extent depending on the characteristics of the carbohydrate. Starch is the most common carbohydrate and it can be categorized as rapidly digested starch (RDS), slowly digested starch (SDS) and resistant starch (RS) where the speed parameter refers to how easily enzymes hydrolyze the starch is and thus how fast the blood glucose level is affected. Wheat production and demand for improving wheat quality have increased worldwide in order to obtain safe food products and preserve human health. Today, refined white flour is most often used to obtain products, the excessive use of which in humans can cause obesity, allergies, intolerance and diseases of the intestinal tract. Possible risks to human health impose the task of improving the quality of protein and carbohydrates. It is necessary to create wheat varieties with the desired composition of gluten, polysaccharides, starch, which will be used for the production of food safe for health.

A word association test was used to determine knowledge structures on biochemistry concepts of secondary school chemistry students, aged between 18-19 years. The basic biochemistry concepts related to the topic of Carbohydrates that take place in the International Baccalaurate Diploma Programme curriculum were determined as stimulus words: “Monosaccharides”, “Glucose”, “Cellular respiration”, “Fructose”, “Disaccharides”, “Glycosidic bonds”, “Polysaccharides”, “Starch”. Students were required to provide response words for each of the eight stimulus words within the pre-determined period of time

The aim of this research was to determine the antibacterial potential ofaqueous and ethanolic extract of wild mushroom species: Agaricus macrosporus and Russulavesca. Extracts from R.vesca were characterized with higher values for total carbohydrates and total proteins. Both aqueous extracts had higher antibacterial activity compared to ethanolic extracts. Aqueous extract from R.vesca showed higher antibacterial activity against B. cereus (13.6mm), E.faecalis (12.1 mm), E. coli(16.7 mm) and P.aeruginosa (10.5 mm) compared to gentamicin or neomycin. This study represents a novel starting point

This research project entitled "Influence of Ruminal Starch Degradability on Performance of High Producing Dairy Cows" had the following objectives: a) Determine effects of feeding varying amounts of ruminally degradable starch (RDS) on efficiency of milk and milk protein production; and 2) Investigate digestive and metabolic mechanisms relating to lactation responses to diets varying in ruminal and total starch degradability. Four lactation studies with high producing cows were conducted in which steam-flaked (~ 75% RDS) was compared with dry-rolled sorghum (~ 50% RDS) grain. All studies demo

The effect of rumen available protein amino acids and carbohydrates on microbial protein synthesis, amino acid flow and performance of high yielding dairy cows was studied. A significant relationship between the effective degradabilities of OM in feedstuffs and the in vivo ruminal OM degradation of diets of dairy cows was found. The in situ method enabled the prediction of ruminal nutrients degradability response to processing of energy and nitragenous supplements. The AA profile of the rumen undegradable protein was modified by the processing method. In a continuous culture study total N and

Background. Epidemiological studies have shown inconsistent findings regarding the effect of dietary digestible carbohydrate intake on the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Synthesis of such evidence is important for determining the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI) for carbohydrates, which can have consequences on incidence and morbidity of chronic conditions. Methods. Two systematic reviews were conducted, one addressing cardiovascular outcomes and the second addressing incidence of T2D, body weight, and composition. This method determines total dietary fiber (TDF) in foods and food ingredients, as defined by Codex Alimentarius. The method measures soluble and insoluble dietary fiber, including resistant starch, as well as nondigestible oligosaccharides. In this method, enzymatic digestion is used to simulate human intestinal digestion. Insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) and soluble dietary fiber that precipitates in 78% ethanol (SDFP) are separated by filtration and quantified gravimetrically. Additionally, highly soluble oligosaccharides (SDFS) are quantified by chromatographic separation. TDF is reported as
