During the summer and fall of 2006, leaf anthracnose samples were collected from fields of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.), calabash gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Standley), and luffa (Luffa cylindrica (L.) M. Roem.) in southern Taiwan. On cucumber leaves, spots start as water-soaked areas and expand into brown spots. Leaf lesions on calabash gourd and luffa begin as water soaked and then become light brown-to-reddish spots. Centers of lesions sometimes fall out; giving infected leaves a shot-hole appearance. Small pieces (approximately 2 × 2 mm) of diseased leaf tissue from margins of individual lesions were surface disinfected in 1% sodium hypochlorite solution for 1 min, rinsed in sterile water, plated on water agar, and incubated at 25°C. After 4 days, mycelium was isolated, transferred to potato dextrose agar (PDA), and then incubated at 25°C in a 12-h light/darkness regimen. Fast-growing colonies on PDA were white to orange or pink with abundant acervuli but no perithecium. One-celled conidia were ovoid to oblong and 12 to 20 × 4 to 6 (15.9 × 5.0) μm. The morphological traits were identical to those of Colletotrichum magna (teleomorph Glomerella magna Jenkins & Winstead) and clearly distinct from those of C. orbiculare (Berk. & Mont.) Arx (synonym C. lagenarium (Pass.) Ellis & Halst. (conidia were mostly oblong, measuring 7 to 11 × 2 to 6 [9.3 × 4.2] μm, with slow-growing gray colonies) (2,3). Koch's postulates were performed to verify that the isolates were capable of causing anthracnose on cucurbitaceous crops. Pathogenicity tests were conducted in the greenhouse at 25°C under natural daylight conditions. Isolate C0604 was grown on PDA for 14 days and a spore suspension was made (106 spores/ml). Three 14-day-old seedlings at the two- to three-leaf stage of muskmelon (Cucumis melo L. var. reticulatus Naud., cv. Sapphire), squash (Cucurbita moschata Duch., cv. Achen), calabash gourd (cv. Huapu), and luffa (cv. 623) were sprayed with the spore suspension and then covered with plastic bags. Control treatments were sprayed with sterile water. After 2 days, the bags were removed. Typical anthracnose symptoms developed on all inoculated seedlings 7 days after inoculation. G. magna was reisolated from inoculated leaves following the protocol used for the original isolation. Control seedlings developed no symptoms. To confirm the identity of the fungus, PCR amplification and DNA sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1)-5.8S-ITS2 of rRNA gene of the isolate C0604 was performed by using ITS1/ITS4 as the PCR and sequencing primers. Sequence analysis of the 558-bp PCR product (GenBank Accession No. GU358453) showed 100% identity to the rRNA sequence of G. magna (GenBank Accession No. DQ003103) (1). PCR amplification of the ITS region was also carried out using species-specific primer GmF (5′- GTG AAC ATA CCT CAA ACG TTG CC -3′)/GmR (5′- GGA GGG TCC GCC ACT GTA TTT CG -3′) designed in this study. A DNA fragment of approximately 378 bp was amplified from nine isolates of G. magna, whereas no amplification products were obtained from reference cultures of C. gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. & Sacc. and C. orbiculare. To our knowledge, this is the first report of G. magna causing anthracnose on cucurbitaceous crops in Taiwan. References: (1) M. Du et al. Mycologia 97:641, 2005. AbstractThe recrystallization of silver sulfide Ag_2S nanoparticles has been studied and the range of the thermal stability of the nanoparticle sizes has been determined. Nanopowders Ag_2S with particle sizes of 45–50 nm were obtained by chemical deposition from aqueous solutions. To study the thermal stability of the Ag_2S nanoparticle sizes, the nanocrystalline powders have been annealed in a vacuum of 0.01 Pa on heating from room temperature to 493 K and in argon at 623 K. Annealing up to a temperature of 453 K leads to insignificant nanoparticle growth and annealing of microstrains, which allows one to consider this temperature range as the region of thermal stability of the silver sulfide nanostate. The temperature range from 450 to 900 K, in which the particle size increases by a factor of 3–6, corresponds to the temperature of collective recrystallization of the silver sulfide nanopowder.

In the summer of 1992, a 4-year research program on the utilisation of propane in agriculture was initiated between ICG Propane and Lava1 University. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of propane burners on weed control as a pre-establishment treatment. The data indicate that the efficiency of weed control is related to tractor speed and gas pressure. When weed height is between 1 and 2 centimetres, most of the heat treatments were as effective as those with the herbicide paraquat. The best and most economical heat treatment was at a tractor speed of 6 Km-hr and a gas pressure of 65 PSI. With larger weeds, efficiency increased with reduces tractor speed and increased gas pressure. In addition, high intensity treatments provided excellent control on broadleaf weeds but were less efficient on grass species. A preliminary economical evaluation showed that propane burners are competitive with chemical herbicides and large-scale commercial trials are planned for summer 1994.

Abstract Background Molecular diagnostics for enteropathogens increase yield while reducing turnaround time. However, many pathogens do not require specific therapy, and the cost is substantial. Methods We reviewed the use of the FilmArray GI Panel (BioFire Diagnostics, Salt Lake City, Utah) in adult outpatients at the University of Virginia and identified clinical features that could limit testing without reducing yield. We defined yield as (a) detection of a pathogen, (b) detection of a pathogen for which antimicrobial therapy is indicated, or (c) detection of a pathogen that can change management, which additionally included viral pathogens in immunocompromised patients. Results Between March 23, 2015 and February 25, 2016, we reviewed 452 tests from adult outpatients with diarrhea. A pathogen was detected in 88/452 (19.5%). The most common pathogens were: enteropathogenic E. coli (36; 8.0%), norovirus (17; 3.8%), Campylobacter (7, 1.5%), enteroaggregative E. coli (6, 1.3%), Giardia (6; 1.3%), and sapovirus (5; 1.1%). Based on clinical guidelines, antimicrobial treatment was clearly indicated for 19/452 subjects (4.2%). Limiting testing to patients with an additional enteric symptom (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fecal urgency, tenesmus, or flatulence), a travel history, or an immunocompromising condition would reduce testing by 25.9%, with a treatable pathogen identified in 18/331 (5.4%) (sensitivity 94.7%, specificity 27.7%). Further modifying testing criteria to exclude subjects with vomiting, 18/288 (6.3%) had a treatable pathogen (sensitivity 94.7%, specificity 37.3%), and a pathogen which could change management was detected in 28/288 (9.7%) (sensitivity 96.6%, specificity 38.5%). Excluding immunocompromised subjects or those with a travel history, American College of Gastroenterology guidelines for testing were met by 293/348 (84.2%) with a documented duration of diarrhea, and a treatable pathogen was detected in 8/293 (2.7%) vs. 3/55 (5.5%) who did not meet testing guidelines. Conclusion Testing could be reduced by 36.3% without decreasing clinical yield by limiting testing to patients with diarrhea with an additional enteric symptom and no history of vomiting, a travel history, or an immunocompromising condition. ACG guidelines did not improve testing efficiency. Disclosures All authors: No reported disclosures.

Abstract Abstract 623 Background: Although a meta-analysis has suggested that a consistent PFS benefit is seen with maintenance thalidomide therapy in multiple myeloma (MM) patients, the impact on OS remains unclear (Hicks LK, et al. Cancer Treat Rev 2008;34:442-452). This could be due to a lack of effect, differing biological subgroups in relatively small studies with short follow-up, or lack of effective relapse treatment. Aims: The study was set up to evaluate the effect of thalidomide maintenance therapy in newly diagnosed MM patients aged ≥ 18 years with OS and PFS as end points, and to examine differential effects in fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) identified molecular subgroups. Methods: Following induction treatment in an intensive pathway for younger fitter patients and a non-intensive pathway for the remaining patients, eligible patients were randomized to open-label thalidomide maintenance until progression (50 mg/day escalating to 100 mg/day after 4 weeks assuming good tolerance) or no maintenance. Patients of all ages were included in the randomization. FISH was performed using standard approaches. Adverse FISH groups were defined as any of t(4;14), t(14;16), t(14;20), 1q+, 17p−, or 1p32− (in the intensive pathway only); the remainder were defined as favorable. Results: Overall, 820 patients were eligible of which 818 were evaluable. Median patient age was 65 years (range, 31−89). Median follow-up from maintenance was 38 months (range 12−66 months). Median time on maintenance was 7 months (range 0−50 months). Maintenance thalidomide significantly improved PFS, with a difference between the curves of 13% (95% confidence interval [CI] 6%−20%) established by 24 months and maintained till the current maximum follow-up at 66 months (hazard ration [HR] 1.36; 95% CI 1.15−1.61; logrank P < 0.001). However, in the initial analysis there was no apparent impact on OS (P = 0.40). These findings were consistent regardless of prior intensive or non-intensive induction treatment. At 66 months follow-up, a PFS benefit was seen in the favorable FISH group (P = 0.004) with no effect on OS (P = 0.6). In the adverse FISH group there was no effect on PFS (P = 0.48) and a negative effect on OS (P = 0.009). Subsequently, we evaluated the effect of relapse treatment on outcomes and used this data in a mathematical model to determine if OS benefit would have accrued from the prolonged PFS if all patients had received effective treatment at relapse. A total of 523 patients have progressed to date and of these, 47% received thalidomide as initial relapse treatment (either as a single agent or in combination), 30% received novel agents (either bortezomib or lenalidomide), and 27% received alkylating agents or steroids. Median survival after progression was significantly worse in patients who received thalidomide maintenance than those who did not (P < 0.005); this could, at least partly, be attributed to patients who received thalidomide at progression. In those patients, the median OS after progression was significantly greater in the no maintenance group versus the thalidomide maintenance group (P = 0.004). Among patients treated with novel agents at progression, prior thalidomide maintenance therapy had no impact on OS and these patients were effectively salvaged. The mathematical model employed to examine the effect of effective salvage therapy at progression suggested that a significant survival benefit of 5.5% at 3-years in favor of thalidomide maintenance would have accrued if all patients had received effective therapy at progression (HR 0.77; 95% CI 0.60–0.99; P = 0.04). Next, we examined whether continuous thalidomide therapy was associated with a consolidation or maintenance effect. Upgrading of response with thalidomide maintenance was not common. Importantly, there was no difference in response over time between maintenance therapy and no maintenance. In contrast to what has been reported previously, these findings suggest a maintenance effect. Conclusions: Maintenance thalidomide significantly improves PFS and if effective relapse treatment is available this translates into an OS advantage. The median duration of maintenance thalidomide therapy of 7 months in the present study was short. The clinical impact of maintenance would be improved if patients could remain on therapy for longer, suggesting that the use of other agents such as lenalidomide, with better tolerability profiles, may produce better results. Disclosures: Off Label Use: THALOMID (thalidomide) in combination with dexamethasone is indicated for the treatment of patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. A total of 65 Przeworsk culture features were discovered in the Żelazna Nowa cemetery. This number included a rectangular groove feature, urned cremations (6), alleged/damaged urned cremations (14), unurned cremations (14), alleged/fully or partly damaged unurned cremations (27), pits containing no bone material (4), undtermined cremations (2), pits containing no archeological material (1). All of the explored burials are cremations. However, a more detailed analysis encounters problems due to the state of preservation of the graves. Features 3, 19A and 19B, 30, 33, 37, 39 have been confidently identified as urned cremations. In many other features fragments of ceramic vessels were found, which may be remains of damaged urns: 18, 21, 23, 25, 31, 35, 44, 46, 47, 48, 49, 56, 57, and 58. Certain unurned cremations are 4, 6, 7, 8, 11–13, 15–17, 22, 24, 32, and 34. The interpretation of the remaining features is uncertain. Among the features uncovered in the cemetery were pits containing no bones: 5, 60, 61, 62, as well as pits containing no archaeological material at all: 55. The majority of unurned cremations contained pyre debris, while no such remains were observed in the following damaged unurned cremations: 15, 40–42, 45, 61, 62. There were a few cases of double burials identified. Three unurned cremations (6, 13, 15) and one urned cremation (39) contained bones of Infans I and an undetermined individual, while feature 19 contained two urns with individual burials: Infans II and an undetermined individual. Urned cremations, and one alleged unurned cremation (56), are distinguished by a higher standard of furnishing and a considerably larger amount of bone remains. This can be given two interpretations: a higher status of those buried there, or different rituals used for urned and unurned cremations. In two graves the urn was covered with an upturned vessel (features 33 and 37). In one case, an apotropaic behaviour characteristic of the Przeworsk culture was recorded, involving driving sharp objects into the pit’s bottom: in grave 41 these were two spearheads.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) has shown growing global morbidity, thus becoming a public health priority. In 2017, approximately 425 million people suffered from diabetes, and it is estimated that by 2045 the number will increase to 629 million. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), with 90% of reported cases, is the most common type and is followed by type 1. In 2018, 8.6 million people over 20 years of age were diagnosed with diabetes in Mexico. This represents 10.6% of the population. In some states with a higher incidence such as Nuevo León, it is estimated that 12.6% of the population above 20 years has been diagnosed with DM. This chapter seeks to inform about type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, its way of acting and complications that it entails, and how social media can be advantageous in patient education.

OBJECTIVES Sexual orientation disparities in adolescent depressive symptoms are well established, but reasons for these disparities are less well understood. We modeled sexual orientation disparities in depressive symptoms from late adolescence into young adulthood and evaluated family satisfaction, peer support, cyberbullying victimization, and unmet medical needs as potential mediators. METHODS Data were from waves 2 to 6 of the NEXT Generation Health Study (n = 2396), a population-based cohort of US adolescents. We used latent growth models to examine sexual orientation disparities in depressive symptoms in participants aged 17 to 21 years, conduct mediation analyses, and examine sex differences. RESULTS Relative to heterosexual adolescents, sexual minority adolescents (those who are attracted to the same or both sexes or are questioning; 6.3% of the weighted sample) consistently reported higher depressive symptoms from 11th grade to 3 years after high school. Mediation analyses indicated that sexual minority adolescents reported lower family satisfaction, greater cyberbullying victimization, and increased likelihood of unmet medical needs, all of which were associated with higher depressive symptoms. The mediating role of cyberbullying victimization was more pronounced among male than female participants. CONCLUSIONS Sexual minority adolescents reported higher depressive symptoms than heterosexual adolescents from late adolescence into young adulthood. Collectively, low family satisfaction, cyberbullying victimization, and unmet medical needs accounted for >45% of differences by sexual orientation. Future clinical research is needed to determine if interventions targeting these psychosocial and health care–related factors would reduce sexual orientation disparities in depressive symptoms and the optimal timing of such interventions.

Although natural amino acids are readily available, there is a continuing need for unnatural amino acids. Jon C. Antilla of the University of South Florida has described (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2007, 129, 5830) a promising approach, based on the enantioselective organocatalytic reduction of imines such as 1 derived from α-keto esters. The aryl group is easily removed to give the primary amine. Mukund P. Sibi of North Dakota State University has developed (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2007, 129, 4522) an enantioselective Mg catalyst that mediated the addition of benzyl hydrazine 6 to imides such as 5. The initial adduct cyclized to the pyrazolidinone 7. Karl Anker Jørgensen of Aarhus University has reported (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2007, 46, 1983) a complementary protocol for the enantioselective conjugate addition of a nitrogen nucleophile. Enantioselective homologation can also be a powerful approach. Benjamin List of the Max-Planck-Institute, Mülheim has found (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2007, 46, 612; Organic Lett. 2007, 9, 1149) that three-component coupling of acetyl cyanide, an aldehyde and benzylamine under the influence of the Jacobsen thiourea catalyst 10 delivered the onecarbon homologated nitrile 12 in high ee. Other homologation methods are also effective. Li Deng of Brandeis University has shown (Organic Lett. 2007, 9, 603) that under the influence of cinchona-derived quaternary salts, malonates will add to racemic amido sulfones such as 13 to give the β-amino malonate 14 in high ee. Fujie Tanaka and Carlos F. Barbas III of Scripps/La Jolla have found (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2007, 46, 1878) that the simple organocatalyst proline will mediate the aza-Baylis Hillman addition of an unsaturated aldehyde such as 15 to 16 in high ee. The alkene 17 is the kinetic product. On prolonged exposure to the reaction conditions, 17 was equilibrated to the more stable 18 . Ming-Hua Xu and Guo-Qiang Lin of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry have established (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2007, 129, 5336) a robust protocol for the enantioselective assembly of -arylated benzylamines such as 21.

BACKGROUND Understanding the magnitude of mental health problems, particularly life-threatening ones, experienced by transgender and/or gender nonconforming (TGNC) youth can lead to improved management of these conditions. METHODS Electronic medical records were used to identify a cohort of 588 transfeminine and 745 transmasculine children (3–9 years old) and adolescents (10–17 years old) enrolled in integrated health care systems in California and Georgia. Ten male and 10 female referent cisgender enrollees were matched to each TGNC individual on year of birth, race and/ or ethnicity, study site, and membership year of the index date (first evidence of gender nonconforming status). Prevalence ratios were calculated by dividing the proportion of TGNC individuals with a specific mental health diagnosis or diagnostic category by the corresponding proportion in each reference group by transfeminine and/or transmasculine status, age group, and time period before the index date. RESULTS Common diagnoses for children and adolescents were attention deficit disorders (transfeminine 15%; transmasculine 16%) and depressive disorders (transfeminine 49%; transmasculine 62%), respectively. For all diagnostic categories, prevalence was severalfold higher among TGNC youth than in matched reference groups. Prevalence ratios (95% confidence intervals [CIs]) for history of self-inflicted injury in adolescents 6 months before the index date ranged from 18 (95% CI 4.4–82) to 144 (95% CI 36–1248). The corresponding range for suicidal ideation was 25 (95% CI 14–45) to 54 (95% CI 18–218). CONCLUSIONS TGNC youth may present with mental health conditions requiring immediate evaluation and implementation of clinical, social, and educational gender identity support measures.

Accurate next-day air quality prediction is essential to enable warning and prevention measures for cities and individuals to cope with potential air pollution, such as vehicle restriction, factory shutdown, and limiting outdoor activities. The problem is challenging because air quality is affected by a diverse set of complex factors. There has been prior work on short-term (e.g., next 6 hours) prediction, however, there is limited research on modeling local weather influences or fusing heterogeneous data for next-day air quality prediction. This paper tackles this problem through three key contributions: (1) we leverage multi-source data, especially high-frequency grid-based weather data, to model air pollutant dynamics at station-level; (2) we add convolution operators on grid weather data to capture the impacts of various weather parameters on air pollutant variations; and (3) we automatically group (cross-domain) features based on their correlations, and propose multi-group Encoder-Decoder networks (MGED-Net) to effectively fuse multiple feature groups for next-day air quality prediction. The experiments with real-world data demonstrate the improved prediction performance of MGED-Net over state-of-the-art solutions (4.2% to 9.6% improvement in MAE and 9.2% to 16.4% improvement in RMSE).

The dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) bacteria has been associated with the inappropriate use of antibiotics in both humans and animals and with the consumption of food contaminated with resistant bacteria. In particular, the use of antibiotics as prophylactic and growth promotion purposes in food-producing animals has rendered many of the antibiotics ineffective. The increased global prevalence of AMR poses a significant threat to the safety of the world’s food supply. Objectives: This study aims at determining the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli (E. coli) isolated from local and imported retail chicken meat in Qatar. Methodology: A total of 270 whole chicken carcasses were obtained from three different hypermarket stores in Qatar. A total of 216 E. coli were isolated and subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing against 18 relevant antibiotics using disc diffusion and micro- dilution methods. Furthermore, extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) production was determined via a double-disc synergetic test. Isolates harboring colistin resistance were confirmed using multiplex-PCR and DNA sequencing. Results: Nearly 89% (192/216) of the isolates were resistant to at least one antibiotics. In general, isolates showed relatively higher resistance to sulfamethoxazole (62%), tetracycline (59.7%), ampicillin and trimethoprim (52.3%), ciprofloxacin (47.7%), cephalothin, and colistin (31.9%). On the other hand, less resistance was recorded against amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (6%), ceftriaxone (5.1%), nitrofurantoin (4.2%) and piperacillin/tazobactam (4.2%), cefepime (2.3%), meropenem (1.4%), ertapenem (0.9%), and amikacin (0.9%). Nine isolates (4.2%) were ESBL producers. Furthermore, 63.4% were multidrug-resistant (MDR). The percentage of MDR, ESBL producers, and colistin-resistant isolates was significantly higher among local isolates compared to imported chicken samples. Conclusion: We reported a remarkably high percentage of the antibiotic-resistant E. coli in chicken meat sold at retail in Qatar. The high percentage of MDR and colistin isolates is troublesome to the food safety of raw chicken meat and the potential of antibiotic resistance spread to public health. Our findings support the need for the implementation of one health approach to address the spread of antimicrobial resistance and the need for a collaborative solution.

Bulk of CO2 emission comes from thermal power generation, which constitutes about 63% of total installed capacity of around 101.6 GWe. The policy makers and power utilities are increasingly favoring the introduction of clean coal technologies, which release less pollutants viz. CO2, NOx and SOx than the conventional thermal plants and have potential to operate at higher efficiencies above 42–44%. Among the clean coal technologies, Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) is being considered the most promising because of higher thermal efficiencies and improved environmental performance. IGCC has the added advantage of removing sulphur pollutants in bed using sorbent as against expensive external post combustion flue gas desulphurisation systems. It is proposed to set up 100MWe-demonstration plant for proving the emission standards and performance prior to commercialization. This plant is based on Frame 6 FA gas turbine designed for low Btu gas firing. The Paper presents the technical parameters and compares the overall project cost of 100MWe IGCC plant for both Cold gas cleanup unit (CGCU) and Hot gas cleanup unit (HGCU), which comprises of Gasification Island, power block, and balance of plant. Being first of kind the project cost is higher and the project cost is likely to get reduced for utility scale of 425 MW IGCC plants in future.

The extract from the venom sac of Vespa orientalis (VSE) inactivates exogenous and endogenous thromboplastin (Joshua and Ishay, Toxicon, 13:11-20,1975). The prolongation of both prothrombin time (PT) and recalcification time suggests inactivation of other factors. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of VSE on clotting factors. A lyophilized VSE with protein concentration of 5 mg/ml was used. Studies were performed in vitro with human plasma and in vivo in cats. Routine methods were employed for the assay of PT, activated tissue thromboplastin (APTT), thrombin time (TT), fibrinogen degradation products (FDP), fibrinogen and factors V,VII,VIII,IX,X. Human plasma was incubated with various concentrations of VSE (0,1,5,10,50,100 μg/ml) for 60 min and for various incubation times (0,5,15,30,+ 60,90,120 min) with 50 μg/ml VSE (n=8). 1 μg/ml VSE prolonged PT from 13.5 to 16 sec (p<0.05) and APTT from 62 to 180 sec. PT was maximal (17.7 sec) with 10 μg/ml and APTT (442 sec) with 50 μg/ml VSE. Factors V,VII,X decreased gradually from 94-105% to 11%,11% and 29% with 100 μg/ml VSE and VIII and IX to 1% even with 1 μg/ml VSE. After 5 min with constant concentration of VSE (50 μg/ml) PT was 14.9 sec (normal 13 sec) and APTT 165 sec (normal 54 sec). Both were maximal (17.5 and 298 sec) after 60 min. Factors VII and X decreased to 13% and 32% and VIII and IX to >1% after 60 min of incubation. Injection of 5 mg/kg VSE to cats (n=6-8) resulted in prolongation of PT from 9.4 to 11.2 sec and of APTT from 19.5 to 63 sec after 5 min. Both were maximal after 90 min (12.3 and 127 sec). Factors V,VII and X decreased from 100% to 7.6%, 13% and 37% and VIII and IX to 1% after 10 min. In all experiments TT and plasma fibrinogen were not affected and FDP were normal. Heating of VSE for 5 min at 80°C abolished completely the anticoagulant activity but dialysis for 24 hr at 4°C had no effect on it. The activity was eluted on Sephadex-25 both in void and post void volumes. The results show that VSE has a potent anticoagulant activity against various factors. Factors VIII and IX are markedly decreased. The effect on V, VII and X is moderate. Plasma fibrinogen is not affected. The nature and clinical significance of the anticoagulant activity merit further investigation.
