This thesis is made of three independent chapters. The first chapter contributes to the literature on expectations. I argue that they may learn a misspecified model instead of learning the rational expectation model. I consider a simple economy with two types of agents. Rational learners learn the true model of the economy whereas consistent learners learn an autoregressive model. I show that a long run equilibrium exists in which consistent learners dominate. Simulations show that the economy may converge towards it. The second chapter deals with the intertemporal choice. I consider a model with wealth in the utility. I study the case of nonseparability. This disentangles between the income effect on labor supply and the intertemporal substitution effect. I derive several implications for economic policy. Then, I estimate the two new parameters introduced in the paper. I find large and positive values for both. The third chapter builds a model of corporate investment under adverse selection. My contribution is to provide a tractable model easy to embed into a macroeconomic model. Borrowers differs by the riskiness of their investment project like in Stiglitz and Weiss (1981). They have infinite horizon and signal their type by borrowing a fraction of their retained earnings. I get an analytic solution for the incentive constraint. I integrate the relation into a dynamic model and derive some implications

The aim of this work was to measure the effect of different forest species on the same acid soil and its mineralogy. The site was described in detail by studying the parent material and a soil profile. The study was carried out at Breuil Experimental Site in Morvan, France, which was set up in 1976. The species studied were: native forest species in a broad-leaved Coppice with Standards (CwS), oak, beech, Norway spruce, Douglas fir, Nordmann fir and Corsican Laricio pine. Several methods were used: i) the physico-chemical properties of the fine earth; ii) the mineralogy of the fine soil fractions; iii) the present functioning of the soil using vermiculite placed in situ in the soil as a test-mineral, in parallel with a dissolution experiment on the same mineral in a controlled environment; and iv) the physico-chemical and mineralogical properties of the rhizospheric soil under oak and spruce. The results indicated that the granite was acid and very poor in basic cations. In comparison with the broad-leaved trees, the conifers caused additional desaturation and acidification of the exchange complex of this soil. Examination of the clay fraction showed that Douglas fir and pine caused a much greater dissolution of certain clay mineral phases than the spruce and broad-leaved trees. Mineral weathering was also greater in the rhizospheric soil, than in the total soil, especially below spruce which was related to the ammoniacal form of nitrogen nutrition. Changes observed in the solid soil phase were satisfactorily explained by the integration of the properties of the bio-geo-chemical cycle of each species. This study provides interesting information relevant to forest managers

Greenhouse gases (GHG) are responsible for some climate change. Humanity faces a choice: either reducing the emissions of these gases or adapt to climate change. In this dissertation we focus on the first solution under the premise that a large part of the greenhouse effect comes from human activities. More precisely, we propose some essays on modeling the determinants of investing in reducing GHG through improving energy efficiency and substituting non-renewable resources (fossil fuels) by renewable resources. We first try and explain the slow diffusion of some energy efficient investments in a general equilibrium framework. We then study the determinants of switching from non-renewable resources to renewable resources when these are perfect substitutes. Finally, we account for the need of dirty resources even if cleaner technologies are available. All these issues are based on models that cannot be fully solved analytically, therefore we also propose in this dissertation a methodology based on the properties of Chebyshev polynomials to compute the solutions

Morphine is widely used for its pharmacologic properties but a chronic treatment leads to side effects such as tolerance and dependence which restrict clinical use. In order to understand the molecular basis of these side effects, we have analysed the impacts of a morphine treatment on the proteome and phosphoproteome prepared from SH-SY5Y cells. Using a differential proteomic strategy we have shown that chronic drug treatment induces a proteasomal dependent degradation of Gbeta and Ggamma2 proteins. Furthermore, G beta degradation was highly correlated with adenylyl cyclase sensitization, a phenomenon known to be involved in morphine dependence. Overall, our proteomic analysis has detected about fifty proteins and hundred phosphoproteins modulated by a morphine treatment. In conclusion, my PhD work has highlighted a new molecular mechanism underlying adenylyl cyclase sensitization and suggests for the first time that the proteasome pathway is involved in long-term morphine adaptations

To guarantee the consistent and effective transposition of European Union directives by the member states, the European Court of Justice has developed three measures, namely, direct effect, state liability in the event of non-implementation and directive-conform interpretation, considered the most complex of these measures. In the first part, the author describes and compares these measures and examines their relationship to each other. The case law of the European Court of Justice establishing the legal basis and the requirements of directive-conform interpretation is analyzed in detail. In the second part, the acceptance and adoption of the aforementioned requirements in Germany is examined. After describing the relationship of European Union law to national law, the author engages in a discourse on the German model of constitutional-conform interpretation. The implementation of directive-conform interpretation as determined by German court decisions and from the German legal doctrine perspective is also set forth. In the third part, French legal doctrine and court decisions pertinent to directive –conform interpretation are presented. The relationship between European Union law, public international law and national law provides the starting point for this analysis. The author identifies the possibilities within French legal methods of implementing the requirements of the directive-conform interpretation

In last decades, Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) has become a major environmental and economic problem in many countries. The quantity of MSW collected and the expenditures necessary for its management have rapidly increased, particularly in developing countries (including those in transition). Our thesis aims to shed light on the relationship between MSW collection and economic growth and to propose how public policy can sustainably manage this pollution. To attempt our objective, we combined a macro and micro economic approaches in theoretical and empirical studies. The contributions of this thesis are threefold and have the scope of Mediterranean countries. First, we complete the empirical literature on the validation of the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis (EKC) by studying the relationship between MSW collected and the economic growth over the period 1990-2010. The main added value of this study is the use of multiple imputations methodology to control for the sample bias due to missing values. We find out that MSW collected monotonically increase with income whatever countries’ income level. This leads us to conclude that the economic growth and MSW prevention are not compatible. So in a second contribution, we investigate, in a theoretical model, the efficiency of using market-based incentives to reach to objective of waste prevention and diversion from disposal in developing countries. We consider the common phenomenon of waste picking in these countries and we analyze the conditions in which a policy of Deposit and Refund System (DRS) can help to achieve the first best optimum. We first analyze the impact of waste picking on the effectiveness of the user fee and the DRS, then we show that social optimum and market equilibrium can be hold by taxing consumer goods and by subsidizing both formal recycling and waste picking. Our third contribution in this thesis is an econometric evaluation of French MSW taxing system in order to test the hypothesis of the complementarity of direct and indirect MSW incentive taxes in developed countries, which implement simultaneously several incentives taxes. Using data aggregate at French administrative departments level, we assess the prevention and substitution effects of the three incentive taxes namely the French user fee (La Redevance d’Enlèvement des Ordures Ménagères), the Extended Producer responsibility and disposal tax levied at landfill and incineration (la Taxe Générale sur les Activités Polluantes). We confirm the complementarity hypothesis of these taxes

This thesis aims to understand the obstacles to the purchase of generic drugs in patients-consumers. More specifically, it aims, through a qualitative and a quantitative study, to improve the efficiency of communication of health actors to reduce the perceived risk in buying generics. More precisely, it intends to examine the variables that explain the patients-consumers attitudes towards the substitution, to understand the mechanisms involved in this process and to highlight the most likely variables that explain the intention of purchasing a generic (vs brand name) drug. Thus, we aimed to explore the factors that explain the perception and reduction of risks towards the generic drugs by conducting individual semi-structured interviews with 24 patients-consumers. The results of the quantitative study of 303 individuals point out that (1) the perceived risk towards the substitution and the attitude towards generic drugs mediate the relationship between the perceived risk towards generic drugs and attitude towards substitution, (2) the trust in the information source (pharmacist and physician) moderates the relationship between the attitude towards substitution and the intention of purchasing a generic (vs brand name) drug and (3) the interaction effect between the brand equity of generic drug : low (vs strong ), the chronicity of disease : non chronic (vs chronic) and the repayment rate : 65% (vs 100%) on the intention purchase generic (vs brand name) drug is validated. Theoretically, the research sheds light on the literature on the perceived risk in health, including mobilizing a concept from the medicine "Nocebo effect". The managerial implications are manifold for generic pharmaceutical industry as well as for pharmacists, physicians, and, finally government makers of communications policies for generic drugs

Developed by the European Court of Justice, the invocability of EU directives defines the conditions allowing legal subjects to exercise the rights conferred by a directive in their legal relationships. The ECJ has managed to introduce different types of invocability into the member States national legal orders, and notably in Italy and France, by, on the one hand using some pre-existing elements of the national legal orders, such as consistent interpretation and the principle of State liability, and making them evolve in a European way. And, on the other hand the ECJ has also created new and, finally, revolutionary tools, such as invocability of substitution and invocability of exclusion of the national law incompatible with a EU directive. The implementation of these different types of invocability has had a deep impact on the role of national courts, who have seen their mandate extended. The legal sphere of legal subjects had also been influenced, in unpredictable and sometimes detrimental ways

The works addresses vibrational properties of novel semiconductors, specifically the Cu2ZnSnSe4 and Cu2ZnSnS4 compounds of the kesterite structure, which, in the domain of photovoltaics, become competitive with leading materials of chalcopyrite type, notably Cu(In,Ga)Se2. The anticipated immediate practical interest of such study is that the vibration spectra are likely to make possible a distinction between different structural phases, possible for a given composition. The vibration modes are accessed by using a first-principle theory approach. The manuscript is divided into five chapters, with the following contents: (1) A brief introduction into the work principle and the problematics of photovoltaics, specifically of the solar cells based on multinary semiconductors; the chapter closes by the description of the phase diagram of the Cu-Zn-Sn-Se system. (2) An overview of the density functional theory (DFT) and of the technics of numerical simulations using the SIESTA code. (3) The vibrational properties of Cu2ZnSnSe4 in its two phases, kesterite and stannite, as studied by first-principles method, with a detailed comparison being done along with a thorough mode-by-mode analysis. (4) Vibrational properties of a secondary phase Cu2SnSe3, which often competes with the Cu2ZnSnSe4 phase in the process of sample growth. (5) Calculation of phonons in the Cu2ZnSnS4 structure containing intrinsic defects (vacances; anti sites), with the objective of estimating vibrational contributions to entropy and the correction of the composition - temperature phase diagram in this multi nary system. The general conclusion summarises the results which are published in 5 articles
