How it is possible to induce to effort heterogeneous workers with a unic labour contract ? answering to this question, this thesis presents a first step in the integration of a flow theory of the firm within an optimal incentives framework. In all chapters, we provide some evidences that at equilibrium, the firm finds too costly to raise the wage high enough to elicit effort from all their employees. These results are take the counterpart of the efficiency wage theory. The modelisation use game theory tools, which is particulary relevant to describe the internal labor market when information is asymmetric. After a survey of literature in the first chapter, we presents some some new theoretical results and test them empirically on panel data. First part is devoted to "post and incentive". The theoretical model, (chap. 2), shows that it may subsist shirkers at equilibrium. Wage and dismissals are negatively correlated. Chapter 3 tests this last proposition on panel data. The second part studies job and incentive, and shows (chap. 4) that it exists moral hazard and adverse selection in training. But the firm cannot always resolve this problem. The fird part is consacrated to "office and incentive". Chap. 5 describe how difficult it is for the firm to induce wealthy top executives officers, because it they are supposed to be able to manage correctly the firm, then they can also correctly manage their own portfolio. The very high wage

"Évaluation et mise en évidence des effets de la charge mentale de travail sur l’adaptabilité comportementale et physiologique A curvilinear effect of mental workload on mental effort and behavioral adaptability Time pressure modulates the curvilinear effect of mental workload on behavioral and physiological adaptability Mental workload effect on behavioral and physiological adaptability in air traffic control task." Thesis, Toulouse 2, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019TOU20091.
Faced with a growing technological evolution-oriented design and automation, studying the effects of mental workload on human efficiency and adaptability arouses genuine interest. The objective of this manuscript is to evaluate the mental workload and to highlight its effects on efficiency, resulting in a behavioral and physiological adaptability of the operator. More precisely, it is a matter of varying the task demand (for example, the difficulty, the temporal pressure, the complexity) to evaluate and identify the effects on the behavioral and physiological adaptability of operator. Behavioral and physiological adaptability was indexed by performance and pre-ejection period reactivity related to effort mobilization. The first article allowed us to highlight a curvilinear effect of mental workload on behavioral and physiological adaptability, as postulated by Hancock and Szalma (2006). The second article has showed that the temporal pressure could to a certain extent promote behavioral adaptability, especially the implementation of strategy. The third article has demonstrated that the air traffic control complex tasks are likely to activate a performance-effort trade-off resulting both behavioral and physiological adaptability of the operator. The applicative purpose of this thesis is to highlight the importance of human factors in the environments design loop, in order to rethink them and/or to bring in tools of help if necessary, at the most opportune moment and in its form the most convincing, in order to promote an optimal mental workload

The increasing demands of work and their impact on the quality of life of employees are timely. In this perspective, the reflection on the managerial practices deserves to be thorough. This research project has three objectives: to conceptualize, measure and predict the influence of emotional support at work (ESW) on organizational commitment, job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behaviour. Our reflection is based on three points. (1) Study the psychological tensions ( conflicts Work / family -life / work) and job characteristics (psychological demand, physical constraints, Complexity of work ... ) is a key input that requires (2) a reflection on the emotional support at work and emotional regulation strategies as moderating variables for ( 3) study the effects of moderating variables in integrating research models incorporating burnout, organizational commitment , emotional dissonance, job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behaviour. The hospital raises an exemplary manner the dynamics and challenges of local management. We will consider three cases: The University Hospital of Bab El Oued (Algeria), University Hospital of Brugmann, (Belgium) and The University Hospital of Bordeaux (France). To provide some answers, we mobilize two methods: qualitative and quantitative (more about a double measure of perceived SET and a measure of emotional regulation strategies) with a comparison of the target institutions. Key words : Emotional support at work_ psychological tensions (conflict work / life and family / work) - Work Characteristics (psychological demand, physical constraints, Labor Complexity ) Burnout – organizational commitment - emotional dissonance - organizational citizenship behaviour _ Strategies work emotional regulation

The objective of our research tasks is to control the material flow under the blank holder through the control and the optimization of the blankholder force profiles. According to the defects which must be avoided, an optimization problem was formulated with inequality constraints functions expressing explicitly some selected quality criteria. An optimization procedure, based on the response surface method and an SQP algorithm, is proposed. To find the global optimum with precision and at lower cost an adaptative strategy of the research space is adopted. The rupture, is avoided by using the modified maximum force criterion, witch is coupled with ABAQUS. Three applications were studied. The optimization results highlight the interest in the control of the blankholder forces in relation of time and the need in certain cases to use several blank holder surfaces in order to improve the distribution of the blankholder force in space

Unfairness at work often causes in inducing negative emotions among employees that influence their work outcomes or strains. In this research, we seek to advance this perspective by using two alternative theoretical models of unfairness at work: organizational (in)justice and effort-reward imbalance and its consequences on two different samples of employees. Based on cross-sectional two different samples this study offered a comparison between organizational (in)justice and effort-reward imbalance in examining employees' unfair perceptions and their relationships to work outcomes in Pakistan (N=583) and in France (N=241).Further, this research examined the moderating effects of personal human values and equity sensitivity between the relationships of unfairness at work and outcomes. However, results of hierarchical regression analysis revealed that both theoretical models of unfairness (organizational (in)justice and effort-reward imbalance) were positively related to job-burnout, turnover intention whereas negatively related to organizational commitment, employees’ performance, and employees in role behavior. We also found that personal human values and equity sensitivity moderated the relationship between unfairness and stress outcomes in both samples. Contribution towards the existing literature, managerial implications, and future research direction was also discussed

This thesis studies the effect of prices on the decisions of health professionals and the use of maternal health services in sub-Saharan Africa. The first two chapters are concerned with the effect of wages on the effort choices and the multiple job holding of health professionals. Based on data collected at the peripheral level of the Cameroonian health system (Yaoundé and Douala), it appears that wages in the main job have no significant effect on the effort choice and the multiple job holding of the health professionals. Thus, a policy of high wages appears insufficient to control the shirking behaviour and the multiple job holding phenomenon of health professionals in the sub-Saharan context. The third chapter analyzes the short-term impact of the free delivery and caesarean program on the use of maternal health services in Senegal. This evaluation does not show in a short-term any positive impact of the free-of-charge measure on the use of maternal health services. The hasty scaling-up of free-of-charge policies can be then questioned in this context

The presented work consists to improve milling process of sculptured surfaces. The aim is to reduce disturbances during machining in order to obtain a better surface roughness without increasing the manufacturing time. The study was conducted in 5-axis milling for torus cutter with round inserts suitable for the considered parts. The first part of this study establishes a cutting force model with a tool axis inclination towards the back of the tool. It leads to a formulation to balance the transversal cutting force that brings a significant improvement on tool dynamic behaviour. The second part presents a free gouging tool positioning and an associated strategy using the balance of transversal cutting force. The proposed method is globally validated on a complete example of sculptured surface machining

He prediction of cutting forces in machining is essential to enhance NC codes and then contributing to improve reliability, accuracy and productivity in CNC machining. In fact, it may give information about cutter deflection, machine tool chatter, tool wear and breakage, and then tool life and surface integrity can be optimised in selecting appropriate cutting conditions. The aim of this work is to propose an original and predictive model for milling operations using the oblique cutting approach developed and validated by Moufki et al. (2004) based on the study of adiabatic shear banding in orthogonal cutting conducted by Dudzinski & Molinari (1997). The cutting forces calculation is then achieved by introducing the thermomechanical behaviour of the workpiece material and tool-chip interface friction characteristics. The tool is decomposed into a series of elementary disks, and then the milling operation is supposed carried out by a series of infinitesimal cutting edge elements in oblique cutting position. The geometrical model necessary to perform the forces calculation is developed for a 3-axis milling configuration by considering the tool geometry, tool path, tool engagement in workpiece material and even tool run-out to reproduce its huge effect on cutting forces. The obtained model is applied to slotting and ball-end milling of a sculptured surface and of an inclined surface. These tests are very useful to validate a complete process modelling and to obtain information about the influence of cutting conditions on cutting forces. In addition, this experimental validation gives some information about dry cutting of a 42CrMo4 steel

This research, conducted among 788 primarily science students in French universities, analyzes the role and impact of images on oral comprehension. Surveys of students and teachers, as well as qualitative and quantitative analysis of online practices, the retention of information and note-taking strategies offer a global vision of student interaction with English for specific purposes resources. Men and women choose different moments and subjects of study, but several profiles emerge that cross gender lines. The presence of text incorporated into visuals becomes a focal point of attention, often to the detriment of information presented orally or on accompanying paper handouts. Furthermore, the images of certain self-learning and testing materials contain significant differences in the representation between men and women in both professional roles and modes of communication. Students consult multimodal sources which implies the need to acquire supplementary competences. Studying via the Internet compared to reading or attending class seems to significantly modify the impression of aide or distraction offered by animated images in testing situations. On the other hand, the use of note-taking strategies seems to facilitate the retention of information. However, other socio-affective factors, such as negative secondary messages, may influence retention as well. The recent transfer from audio to audiovisual mediums has occurred despite a lack of research on the impact on oral comprehension. A wider breadth of authentic materials and a greater implication of trained teachers are necessary for the amelioration of listening skills among English language learners in the sciences

The screening effect is opposite proposal to the so called Pygmalion effect. Early studies of Rosenthal and Jacobson had proven the pupils' tendency to reach teacher's expectations concerning theirs scholar performances. It follows that the students considered as promising get usually better results than the others (and contrary, those one considered as weak got lower results). Nevertheless the teacher expectations are sometime based on facts that are not direct linked to the scholar performances. Despite theirs reliability, the gender, the ethnical origin, the social level and physical attractiveness are factors that can contribute in establishing these expectations. The development of ICT in last decades and subsequently their massive use in society (particularly in scholar environment) offers completely new opportunities and perspectives. The aim of present thesis is to study the impacts of these technologies within situations when a relatively poor level of scholar achievements has like source a possible wrong estimation of teachers concerning the scholar potential of theirs students. We can say that by using these new technological achievements the school is finding in fact new tools for achieving its important mission. Currently, intensive efforts are made on studying how this completely new educational work environment and the particularities of these new techniques can influence teachers' regard on scholar's performances with positives effects on the self-esteem of the students or even on their scholar achievement. Trying to answer to some of these questions, the aim of present work is to study the screening effect of ICT, thus the possibility of using ICT to diminish the effects of teaching expectances on the scholar performances of the students. In this context, using ICT to hide the student identity seems to break the classical student teacher interaction

Interactions between collective agreements and labor contracts are numerous. Conflicts between these two types of act raise many questions about the nature of their bonds. Many elements suggest that collective agreements – due to their intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics – take precedencies over labor contracts. Still, would it be accurate to talk about an absolute primacy? The preferential principle allows employees to fail the imperative effect of collective agreement, singularly in terms of remuneration and working time. But for how long? The application of labor contract is jeopardized by derogatory and management agreements, among which and foremost the collective performance agreements. Would it then be true to say that its resilience is neutralized? Based on answers given to these questions – triggered by the one about primacy of conventions and collective agreements over labor contract – depend, partly, the organization and the administration of the company

The global warming by its scale and its complexity puts several questions on the future of our planet. One of the ways proposed to slow down this process is the reduction of the production of greenhouse gases. The domains of the refrigeration try to be renewed to answer the new ecological standards and one of the most promising alternatives is the magnetic refrigeration based on the magnetocaloric effect. This report concerns the research of new magnetorefrigerants with large temperature span and joins directly in this environmental and economic stake which aims at replacing the classic systems of refrigeration in a near future. At first, this research works focused on Gd-Tb alloys: various nuances of these alloys would allow to widen the temperature range. Their magnetocaloric properties were determined and a first study on their behavior in corrosion was begun in various coolants. Finally, the optimization of their shaping was realized for their use in the prototype of Cooltech Applications company. Secondly, we studied single-phase compounds as derivatives of Mn3GaC or Mn3Sn2 which present several successive magnetic transitions and thus a large temperature span. A lot of substitutions were simultaneously realized on the Mn and Sn sites of the compound Mn3Sn2 continuing the works led within the team on Mn3Sn2 and its derivatives since 2006

No one is deemed ignorant of the law… including supranational standards. The “censure” of the provisions relating to the “new hiring” employment contract vigorously demonstrated so. The influence of supranational standards has never been so strong: they progressively cover all of the fields of French Labour Law. All stakeholders, whether public or private, need to look beyond French borders. The stated aim is to control the spread of supranational standards, without which there is no acceptance by its recipients, and apprehend the resulting transformations of French Labour Law. New legal methodologies and instruments need to be implemented in this respect

The surface quality of closed fluid veins rotating parts of turbo machines participates in the machine output. It is therefore essential to control the finishing of veins in 5-axis machining with a ball end mill. The titanium alloy Ti6Al4V is one of the materials used and suffers from a poor machinability. The choice of cutting parameters affects the surface quality and the life of the cutter. In order to control the 5-axis milling, characterization methods of cutting are developed for linear and circular paths. Effective diameters and the uncut chip thickness is responsible for several phenomena associated with the cut such as the cutting speed, the speed of evolution of the tool wear, the milling modes and cutting forces. Tests are the link between measures of cutting forces and surface quality and characterization methods of cutting. Once the 5-axis machining with ball end mill characterized, two strategies of finishing closed veins in multiaxis are developed keeping constant the feed speed of the contact and the relative orientation of the tool axis with the normal the local surface. The plunge milling strategy is characterized by a curvature continuous trajectory. The helical milling strategy reveals tangent discontinuities of the trajectory. A method of local smoothing trajectory is then developed to provide a reasonable kinematics and dynamics behavior of machine
LOISY, CRETIN CATHERINE. "La memoire de travail visuo-spatiale : recherche d'un effet longueur de parcours." Grenoble 2, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1998GRE29003.
The studies we have carried out are within the framework of baddeley and hitch (1974)'s working memory model. They have in view to dissociate the model's modules and to find effects characteristic of the visuo-spatial component. The classical notion of the working memory model (baddeley & hitch,1974) comprises a central executive supervising two temporary storage systems, the phonological loop and the vssp (visuo-spatial scratch pad or visuo-spatial sketch pad). The phonological loop thought to be involved in the encoding and maintenance of verbal material benefits from converging evidence allowing it to be a relatively sophisticated conceptualisation (e. G. , gathercole & baddeley, 1993). A particularly important piece of evidence is the word length effect. The existence of this effect and its evolution under the interference tasks paradigm are indicators of the presence of a rehearsal mechanism. Research on the vssp is still ambiguous and it is thought that visuo-spatial activities could require the use of general purpose resources (e. G. , smyth & scholey, 1994a,b) ; actually the dissociation technique is not sophisticated enough to demonstrate the existence of three mechanisms (logie, zucco & baddeley, 1990). Moreover no effect indicates rehearsal mechanism's efficiency. The first experiment's aim is to dissociate the model's modules in a procedure whereby all the components must be activated independently. The results are coherent with badddey' model and seem to show that the use of general purpose resources is the same both in verbal span and location span tasks. We hypothesise that if there is any visuo-spatial rehearsal, a path length effect should be shown because such a mechanism would take longer to refresh longer material. The next experiments show the presence of the predicted length effect, reveal its p parameters, and show that it can be found in other tasks, such as the corsi blocs. The last experiment fails to abolish path length effect by classical visuo-spatial interference tasks. These results suggest that in working memory visuo-spatial material benefits from a rehearsal that merits firer investigation notably to find out its nature
Lefer, Camille. "Les droits potestatifs dans le contrat de travail." Thesis, Paris 2, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016PA020039/document.
A potestative right allows his holder to create, modify or extinguish another’s legal situation. The employment relation, as for it, is marked by a logic of power(s). How, in these conditions, does the concept of potestative right enter the employment contract? How does the latter receive the potestative right ? What sacrifices should be made by the potestative rights ?If potestative rights are accepted in the employment contract, it is only in a framed, supervised and limited way. Potestative rights are then controlled and sanctioned by judges willing to enforce both its spirit and limits. However, since the potestative right is applied through a unilateral act, because it concerns the ability to impose one’s will upon others, shouldn’t the interests of the recipient be preserved, at the very least? The object of the employment contract, the subordination of the employee, therefore leads towards the question of the place to begiven to the employee’s fundamental rights and freedoms
Ritou, Mathieu.

The aim of this research was twofold. Study the causes and consequences of Burnout caregivers, initially, and understand the effect of the presence of a garden in a hospital geriatric sector in a second time. Nurses and caregivers of nine geriatric services answered a questionnaire constructed from the theories and scales of Karasek and Theorell (1990), Siegrist (1996), Shirom (2004) and Kuorinka (1987). So, the Burnout is faced with psychosocial factors, the vigor (wellness) and physical pain to extract the causes and consequences of this psychological disorder. These same teams also participated in such conversations "focus groups" and semi-structured individual interviews to speak about their working conditions, as well as their experience and felt the presence or absence a arranged garden or undeveloped in their work environment. These care teams belonged to three types of geriatric services: cognitive behavioral unit, palliative care, rehabilitation care. The main results of the questionnaire involve lack of support from the hierarchy appearance as increasing the risk of Burnout. This result is confirmed by interviews. In addition, Burnout was a lesser incidence of Burnout in care services with a garden that those without a garden, and and there is also with an amplification of the benefit with specially-designed gardens. The feeling of strength, both physical and psychological, was less present when the care services did not have a therapeutic garden. A trend toward an increase in musculoskeletal disorders in services with a therapeutic garden versus no garden was observed. Upon analyzing the results, the authors recommend particular attention in the designing of hospital gardens in order to facilitate the ergonomics of nursing work. In conclusion, the overall results advocate the use of the garden as a systemic structure conducive to work interactions in a specially designed area by allowing the same to combat the sources of Burnout and defend Vigor. It encourages the development of nursing and reducing Burnout highlighting a precautionary principle on the physical load and ergonomics of this place to explore

The Pygmalion effect at work is embedded into the conceptual frameworks of self-fulfilling prophecies and leadership styles within the field of Organisational Behaviour. Its actuality lays in operating as an interpersonal expectancy effect, its significance lays in having an outstanding impact on leadership improvement and follower job performance. However, the ethical, phenomenal and methodological concerns of its experiments raised arguments. As a response to these, the dissertation proposed a new perspective to be implemented based on the three dimensions of naturalness (behaviour, setting, treatment) and hypothesized the naturally occurring Pygmalion effect at work. Therefore, the thesis aimed to see the test of reality, if and how it is realized in the chosen context of the Cultural Community Employment Program. It applied an exploratory sequential design with two data collections: participant observation (n=25-130), organisational questionnaires (n=1146-1155). The analysis was based on quantification and validity strategies, it took descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings contributed to the theoretical and methodological aspects of Pygmalion and Galatea effect researches, the issue of the natural context and the investigated program

The prevalence of obesity has increased over the last decades in the developed countries, especially among the lowest social groups. This thesis explores the social and economic consequences of obesity in different areas. In France, obesity reduces employment probability for women, and the hourly wage for both men and women. Moreover, obese people spend more time in leisure activities, but it has no consequence on common leisure time in couples in which both partners are obese. In the United Kingdom, obese people are less satisfied than non obese people, but this effect could be mitigated if the partner is also obese. Lastly, international data show that corpulence norms are not uniform between and within countries. In particular, corpulence norms are more stringent for women. It may explain why the estimated impacts of corpulence are higher for women

Life long learning appears as a major concern for our societies. After leaving the educational system, learning can imply returning to school or continuing education. Academic careers in France seem less and less linear. Young peopleare encouraged to make the most of college breaks in order to diversify their experiences. During their career, they are to be trained to « be free to choose their professional future », as mentions a new law. This thesis, then, aims atidentifying the reasons why people go back to training and at stuying how such returns are seen by the labor market. This work includes a preliminary chapter and three other chapters, each with specific data. Based on a literature review, the preliminary chapter investigates the reasons why people go back to school or choose training. We analyze the theoretical conditions explaining the way such experiences are seen by the labor market. The data of the first chapter are from the Céreq “Génération 98” survey, which tracks formal education leavers during tenyears. Such a longitudinal survey enables the study of the impact of non-linear pathways on recent graduates salaries, thanks to the instrumental variables method. Recent graduates with post-secondary education interruption receive alower salary than their peers, ceteris paribus – even with high social and academic profile and good relational skills. This seems to confirm the hypothesis of a negative signal to the employers. The results of the first chapter lead us into the second part where we investigate the promotion of atypical academic careers by the labor market. We surveyed recruitment consultants with the factorial survey method in order to understand how they perceive such careers. More than a thousand CVs were evaluated by the consultants according to the probability of them giving a job interview. Our econometric analysis shows that the absence of details about temporary education interruption seem detrimental, ceteris paribus. Facing the lack of information, recruitment consultants would not take the risk of hiring a candidate who has been non-working. Although, this large signal effect does not apply if the candidate mentions a trip abroad or a “service civique” during the academic career. In the third part we try to understand what determines a reinvestment in training – but only for working employees. We use the “Defis” survey lead by the Céreq. The data are from employees and companies questionnaires. Our results show that very few variables seem to impact the chance for an employee to seek training. Likewise, accessing to optional training seems to rely on individual motives and on job characteristics – even though company features do matter. This fact increases the inequality in training accessibility. Using a DID matching method shows that this type of training doesn’t seem to increase salaries

Mindfulness is a fundamental concept which has existed since the dawn of time in meditative circles. These days it is a psychological construct that is the focus of much writing, and tested therapeutic technique, notably in stress reduction and in depressive relapse prevention (Bishop et al., 2004 ; Brown, Ryan et Creswell, 2007 ; Grossman et al., 2004). Mindfulness and its effects on management practice are the focus of a limited number of studies (Dane, 2010 ; Good et al., 2016). Our hypothesis is that mindfulness is a psychological construct that is doubly beneficial to managers: on the one hand, by supporting a more balanced approach to work, and on the other hand, by promoting the adoption of more positive and better performing leadership models (transformational, authentic, servant). Our research makes use of a mixed methodology. A systematic literature review enables us to define this emerging field. An informal study of 7 business managers carried out over 2 years and following a longitudinal qualitative protocol identified changes in terms of work relationships and management styles. Finally, a model using positive types of leadership as mediator variables in relationships between mindfulness and performance is recommended. Two quantitative studies were carried out to test the model. The data support the hypothesis that mindfulness is a resource that can be used to bring about positive organizational behaviour

This thesis is composed of six essays on youth and the labor market on the one hand, and on the use of subjective variables in health economics on the other hand. In most developed countries, young people often face great and increasing difficulties when entering the labor market, especially since the Great Recession. The first two chapters analyse French programs aimed at helping youth facing these difficulties. We evaluate the impact of extending the minimum income to young people (Chapter 1) and of strengthening the main training program for youth (Chapter 2). The third and fourth chapters focus on the unemployment level when young people enter the labor market, analyzing its impact on their educational attainment (Chapter 3), and on their wage and employment prospects throughout their career (Chapter 4) Moreover, the increasing use of subjective variables by economists raises the question of their reliability and robustness. In the last two chapters, we explore how the formulation of subjective questions shape the collected answers, for two variables often used in health economics : foregone health care due to cost (Chapter 5) and subjective health (Chapter 6). Using the split sample method, we compare the responses of several random samples of respondents, which answer to different formulations of the same question

OBJECTIVE: To investigate interaction between psychosocial and postural work factors on the incidence of self-reported musculoskeletal symptoms among a group of white-collar workers. METHODS: Psychosocial and postural work factors were assessed in a cohort of 2,431 white-collar workers (baseline participation: 76%, follow up participation: 91%). The job strain (Karasek’s) model and the effort-reward (Siegrist’s) model were used to characterize the psychosocial work environment. Postural factors related to Visual Display Unit work were assessed using a self-report questionnaire. Three years later, the incidence proportion of musculoskeletal symptoms at three different anatomical sites (shoulder-neck, lower back, and upper limbs) was estimated with a modified version of the Nordic questionnaire. Analyses were stratified for gender. Interaction was defined as a departure from the addition of individual risk factors and its importance was estimated with the attributable proportion due to interaction and its 95% interval. RESULTS: A significant interaction between job strain and postural factors was observed for men for the lower back. Two significant interactions between effort-reward and postural factors were observed for women in the shoulder-neck and the upper limbs regions. Several indications of interaction between psychosocial and postural work factors were observed. CONCLUSION: The simultaneous presence of postural and psychosocial risk factors seems to increase the individual pathogenic effect of each risk factor on the incidence of musculoskeletal symptoms. This interaction effect is of primary importance for work intervention practices as it means that succeeding to reduce anyone of these two risk factors will likely have the additional benefit to reduce the interaction effect of the incidence proportion of musculoskeletal symptoms.
