Анотація:
Alacran chamuco sp. nov., a new eyeless, troglobitic scorpion from Te Cimutaa, Valle Nacional, is described. This is the second known species in the genus; sharing with Alacran tartarus a very similar trichobothrial pattern and the lack of “petite” trichobothria—both unique characters in the family Typhlochactidae. The new species differs from A. tartarus in the pedipalp finger dentition and the relative size of the telson. The two cave systems in Oaxaca where the two species of Alacran occur are approximately 75 kilometers apart.

Tartarus is a benchmark problem used to evaluate artificial intelligence techniques for solving problems in the field of non-Markovian agent motion planning. In this paper a fractal gene regulatory network with inputs is evolved to act as a virtual robot controller in the Tartarus environment. The proposed technique is compared and contrasted with other previously reported techniques and it is shown that the gene regulatory network that includes input information provides an excellent performance without using any explicit memory or environmental modeling. Detailed experimental studies are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach.

This article questions the longstanding supposition that the eschatology of the Second Temple period was solely influenced by Persian or Iranian eschatology, arguing instead that the literature of this period reflects awareness of several key Greco-Roman mythological concepts. In particular, the concepts of Tartarus and the Greek myths of Titans and Giants underlie much of the treatment of eschatology in the Jewish literature of the period. A thorough treatment of Tartarus and related concepts in literary and non-literary sources from ancient Greek and Greco-Roman culture provides a backdrop for a discussion of these themes in the Second Temple period and especially in the writings of Philo of Alexandria.

At Aen. 6.562–627 the Sibyl gives Aeneas a description of the criminals in Tartarus and the punishments to which they are condemned. The criminals are presented to us in several groups. The first consists of mythical figures, the Titans (580–1), the sons of Aloeus (582–4), Salmoneus (585–94), Tityos (595–600) and Ixion and Pirithous (601–7). Next Virgil turns away from mythical figures to particular categories of criminal. He mentions those who hated their brothers, who assaulted a parent, who cheated a cliens, who gloated over wealth they had acquired without setting aside a part for their family, who were put to death for adultery, and those who, breaking their masters' (‘dominorum’, 613) trust, made war on their country (608–14). The reference to the contemporary scene is unmistakable. The mention of a cliens (609) indicates that we have moved from Greece to Rome. Moreover, ‘quique ob adulterium caesi’ (612) brings to mind Augustus' concern over moral standards, the subject of legislation in 28 B.c., 18 B.c. and A.d. 9; the lex Iulia de adulteriis coercendis (18 B.c., but no doubt in the air for some time previously) gave to fathers of adulteresses the right to put to death both guilty parties. Thirdly, ‘arma...impia’ (612–13) is an obvious reference to civil war (cf. Geo. 1.511–14; Aen. 1.294–6), which as Servius argues is more narrowly defined by ‘nee veriti dominorum fallere dextras’ (613) so as to exclude Caesar and Octavian: undoubtedly the allusion is to the war against Sextus Pompeius, which Augustan propaganda chose to represent as a war against runaway slaves. Virgil continues by sketching the penalties paid in Tartarus by such men (614–17). While doing so, however, he retreats once again into the realm of mythology: the punishments he describes are those more normally associated with Sisyphus and Ixion (rolling a stone uphill, suspension on a wheel). This reversion is completed at 617–20 where, confusingly, Virgil denies that he has been alluding to events of contemporary significance by naming two mythical personages, Theseus and Phlegyas (the father of Ixion). Virgil therefore implies, but then denies, contemporary relevance. It is this kind of protean elusiveness (most marked, perhaps, in the Eclogues) which makes the contemporary allusions in Virgil so difficult to pin down.

The scorpion genus Alacran Francke, 1982, endemic to eastern Mexico, was created to accommodate Alacran tartarus Francke, 1982. This remarkable troglobiotic species is adapted for life in some of the world’s deepest caves, 720–916 m below the surface in the Sistema Huautla of the state of Oaxaca (the deepest records at which a scorpion has been found). A second species, Alacran chamuco Francke, 2009, was later described from Te Cimutaá, also in Oaxaca. In the present contribution, we describe a third species, Alacran triquimera, sp. nov., recently discovered in a cave system in the state of Puebla, and test the monophyly and internal relationships of Alacran, based on a cladistic analysis of 10 terminal taxa (including seven species representing all four genera of Typhlochactidae) and 151 informative morphological characters, building on a previously published matrix. The single most parsimonious tree obtained, supports the monophyly of Alacran and the following relationships among its component species: (A. chamuco (A. tartarus + A. triquimera, sp. nov.)). The phylogenetic relationships among the three species of Alacran are consistent with the biogeographical history of the caves they inhabit. Based on the geological history of the Sierra Madre del Sur and the likely similar speleogenesis of the Tres Quimeras, Sistema Huautla and Te Cimutaá caves, we propose a vicariance hypothesis to account for the disjunct distribution of the three species of Alacran, whereby an initially more widespread, panmictic ancestral population speciated into three geographically isolated taxa following fragmentation of the southern Sierra Madre del Sur.

Abstract This essay contextualizes Herman Melville’s “The Paradise of Bachelors and the Tartarus of Maids” alongside antebellum portrayals of the female wage earner. Melville’s decision to measure the costs of economic change by sexualizing female wage earners typifies antebellum conversations in which men interpreted women’s labor in relation to an increasingly outdated framework for their activities, here termed the patriarchal shelter. This trope presumes that women’s activities ought to take place under conditions found in the preindustrial household and helps to explain why male authors interpreted factory operatives as women of suspect virtue. I argue that male authors who sexualized female wage earners alleviated their own anxieties about their compromised independence in the industrial marketplace. Male authors fixated on factory women’s sexual identity in an attempt to control their activities rhetorically, but in the process they symptomatized the many ways women’s labor no longer clearly evidenced male dominion.

Abstract Various mythical ‘exiles’, gods (Cronus), heroes (Cadmus), and other individuals (Ophion, Typhon, Ogygus, Briareus) or groups (Cyclopes) were conceived as exiled for various reasons, but mainly because of a struggle with Zeus. Locations of their mythical exile were regularly conceived as distant, extreme, inaccessible, and, sometimes, out of this world. Consequently, the terms sometimes associated with those mythical exiles are ἔσχατα, ἄκρος, and πέρατα. Most of the exiles were at some point placed in Tartarus, a term more or less applicable to a section of Hades; but they were regularly conceived as continuing their existence by the shore of the mythical Oceanus, most probably in the farthest West. In a number of cases, both versions of the story existed, and they probably referred to the same thing: one can be at the ἔσχατα, ἄκρος, or πέρατα both under earth and at its western extremity. This fact is explained by the existence of two mythical models accounting for the diurnal solar movement.

AbstractThe Typhonomachy (Theogony 821 – 880) has long been deemed an anomalous and inorganic intrusion into the Hesiodic text. The main reason for such a judgment is that the Typhoeus episode is an unnecessary and redundant doublet of the Titanomachy that precedes. In addition, Gaia’s role in giving birth to the monster seems to contradict her benign role both before (624 – 628) and after the Typhoeus episode (883 – 885). Looking afresh at the passage through the wider lens of the cosmogonic program of the Theogony allows us to grasp its function within the overall economy of the poem. Typhoeus, offspring of Gaia and Tartarus, takes us back to the very origins of cosmogony. The Typhonomachy brings us to a critical temporal crossroad where a recrudescence of the primeval irrupts into and threatens the evolved universe. If at issue in the Titanomachy was the kingship in Heaven, at stake in the Typhonomachy is the very existence of the cosmos itself.

For both herman melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne, the quin-tessence of midcentury bachelor life was found across the Atlantic. Attempting to capitalize on the phenomenal success of Donald Grant Mitchell's Reveries of a Bachelor (1850), Melville in 1855 published “The Paradise of Bachelors,” with its companion sketch, “The Tartarus of Maids,” in Harper's (during Mitchell's tenure there as editor). This diptych juxtaposed the hard labor of unmarried New England female millworkers to the leisurely pleasures of English bachelor residents of the Inns of Court. For Melville, the “quiet absorption of good living, good drinking, good feeling, and good talk” was epitomized by bachelor life in London. Hawthorne made his own entry in the bachelor sweepstakes with The Blithedale Romance (1852), which portrayed the temporary residence of the bachelor Coverdale in an American Utopian community and an urban hotel. Yet Hawthorne, like Melville, associated ideal bachelor life with London. Describing a dinner he had enjoyed at the Reform Club, Hawthorne noted in his journal that “there are rooms and conveniences for every possible purpose, and whatever material for enjoyment a bachelor may need, or ought to have, he can surely find it here.”

No nordeste do Brasil, os encalhes de tartarugas marinhas têm sido um instrumento importante de pesquisa para avaliação de impactos negativos que vem ocorrendo nas regiões costeiras. O despejo de poluentes e resíduos sólidos no mar, a exploração dos recursos pesqueiros e a degradação de áreas costeiras tem sido as principais causas para o declínio de população de animais ameaçados como as tartarugas marinhas na costa do Brasil. A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo, analisar os encalhes de tartarugas marinhas no litoral do Ipojuca, Pernambuco, Brasil. Foi realizado um levantamento dos encalhes nas praias do Ipojuca, desde setembro de 2008 a junho de 2016, através de informações no banco de dados da Organização não Governamental Ecoassociados, bem como o monitoramento de 12 km dessas praias, entre os meses de setembro de 2015 a junho de 2016. Os animais encontrados mortos ou debilitados foram identificados e avaliados quanto a localização em relação a praia, sexo, faixa etária, estado de conservação da carcaça, evidência de interação antropogênica, presença de tumores, presença de anilhas e evidência de interação com outra fauna. Um total de 418 encalhe foram documentados, esses distribuídos em 16,98% de tartarugas não identificadas, 4,41% de tartaruga cabeçuda, 7,05% de tartaruga de pente, 24,11% de tartaruga oliva, destacando a tartaruga verde (Chelonia mydas) como a espécie com maior número de registro (64,4%) de encalhes na costa do Ipojuca. Quanto à faixa etária, os juvenis (n=197) foram mais representativos que os adultos (n=143) e fêmeas (n=113) foram mais expressivas que os machos (n=30). A praia de Merepe obteve maior número de encalhes (n=131). Cerca de 20% das carcaças estavam com a presença de cracas e 11,11% apresentando tumores com indicativo de fibropapiloma, sendo exclusivo para C. mydas. Sendo assim, é necessário repensar em ações direcionadas para conservação das espécies, evidenciando a educação ambiental e a fiscalização como uma das principais medidas.

Sun-dried raisins are a source of dietary fibre and tartaric acid. The effects of tartaric acid on colon function have not been the focus of extensive research. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of dietary fibre and tartaric acid from sun-dried raisins on colon function and on faecal bile acid and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) excretion in healthy adults. Thirteen healthy subjects were fed 120 g sun-dried raisins/d or 5 g cream of tartar (equivalent to the tartaric acid in 120 g sun-dried raisins)/d for 9 weeks, divided into 3-week cycles. The experimental diets were fed in a crossover design after an initial control period. Faeces were collected for the last 4 d of each cycle for analysis of SCFA and bile acids. Intestinal transit time decreased from 42h on the baseline diet to 31h on cream of tartar (P<0·1) and to 28h on sun-dried raisins (P<0·05). Faeces were softer on both sun-dried raisins and cream of tartar, but sun-dried raisins increased faecal wet weight (P<0·05), while cream of tartar did not. Sun-dried raisins caused significant reductions from baseline values in total bile acid concentration (from 1·42 (sd 1·03) to 1·09 (sd 0·76) mg/g, P<0·05), whereas cream of tartar did not (1·40 (sd 1·06) mg/g). Sun-dried raisins also significantly reduced the lithocholic (LC):deoxylithocholic acid (DC) ratio (from 1·63 (sd 0·85) to 1·09 (sd 0·50), P<0·02), whereas cream of tartar reduced the ratio, but to a lesser extent (1·29 (sd 0·79), NS). Both faecal bile acids and the LC:DC ratio are indicators of reduced risk for colon cancer. Sun-dried raisins increased total SCFA excretion (from 5·6 (sd 3·4) to 7·6 (sd 3·0) g/4d, P<0·05), which remained unchanged with cream of tartar (5·6 (sd 3·0) g/4d). Both sun-dried raisins and cream of tartar appear to be good stool softeners and to shorten intestinal transit time, although the fibre in sun-dried raisins has the added benefit of increasing faecal weight. Both sun-dried raisins and cream of tartar modulate the composition of faecal bile acids and SCFA in a way that has potential health benefits.

Todas as espécies de tartarugas marinhas encontram-se na lista vermelha da União Internacional para a Conservação da Natureza e dos Recursos Naturais (IUCN), classificadas como vulneráveis, ameaçadas ou criticamente ameaçadas de extinção. Dentre alterações traumáticas que acometem quelônios, destacam-se as fraturas de carapaça e plastrão, que podem ocorrer principalmente como consequência de mordida de animais predadores, hélices de barcos, entre outros. O presente relato teve como objetivo avaliar a ação da Terapia Fotodinâmica na consolidação de fratura de carapaça em um espécime de tartaruga-verde (Chelonia mydas).

The study is devoted to the analysis of methods and techniques of mythologization in the novel The Ground Beneath Her Feet written by the British author of Indian origin S. Rushdie. The paper explores the narrative organization of the novel, in which images and motifs of ancient mythology are used as a special code for artistic interpretation of European culture of the second half of the 20th century. The article examines the artistic reality of the novel, which combines the modern history of rock culture and classical mythology of Ancient Greece. S. Rushdie addresses problems related to the nature of creativity using as the main plot-forming motifs such mythologemes as the love story of Orpheus and Eurydice, the myth of alldevouring Tartarus, twin myths. The study shows that a typical technique for creating expressive threedimensional multivocal images in Rushdie's novel is a combination of real facts from the world of rock culture and mythological allusions, intertwining, overlapping and collision of various motifs and plots of Greek mythology, which, taken all together, generates the original artistic reality. The article analyzes how the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice acquires a cultural dimension in the novel and what techniques are used by the author to activate the extensive cultural memory of the Orphic myth. The concentration and interpretation of iconic images and motifs of ancient mythology are used in the novel for artistic analysis of the state of culture in the second half of the 20th century and of its attempts to counter the catastrophic tendencies of destruction and death of the modern civilization.

O litoral de Santa Catarina constitui uma importante área de alimentação para tartarugas marinhas na costa do Brasil. Há poucas informações sobre esses quelônios na região, principalmente no litoral norte do Estado, que compreende o trecho entre os municípios de Itapoá e Barra do Sul, incluindo o estuário da Baía Babitonga. Oito estudos foram identificados na revisão realizada, sendo que a grande maioria constitui trabalhos acadêmicos. Cinco espécies foram registradas: a tartaruga-verde (Chelonia mydas), a tartaruga-cabeçuda (Caretta caretta), a tartaruga-de-pente (Eretmochelys imbricata), a tartaruga-oliva (Lepidochelys olivacea) e a tartaruga-de-couro (Dermochelys coriacea). Chelonia mydas é a espécie mais abundante e para a qual há mais informações, incluindo dados sobre dieta, ingestão de lixo, prevalência de fibropapilomatose e contaminação. Esta também é a única espécie que ocorre no interior da Baía Babitonga. Caretta caretta é a segunda espécie com maior número de encalhes. Eretmochelys imbricata, L. olivacea e D. coriacea têm poucos registros na região, o que sugere que este não constitui habitat característico para estas espécies. A conservação destas espécies na região depende da preservação dos habitats de alimentação e da implementação de medidas que reduzam os efeitos diretos e indiretos de atividades de dragagem, assim como os de outras ameaças antrópicas, incluindo a poluição e interação com diferentes pescarias.

The Mongolic term khaan (‘king’), for which there is full correspondence, semantic and phonological, in sixteenth century Portuguese cão, is used as a starting-point to identify the graphemes that correspond to several Mongolic consonants in place names transcribed in the chapters related to the Tartars in Fernão Mendes Pinto’s Peregrinação (1614). With the deduced rules of pronunciation at hand, it is possible to establish new pairs of lexical correspondences and solve a brief lexicon extracted from the list of Tartar toponyms.

RESUMO A tartaruga-verde, Chelonia mydas, apresenta distribuição cosmopolita. No Brasil, ocorre na costa, porém desova em ilhas oceânicas. A helmintofauna de tartarugas-verdes é diversificada, podendo-se dizer que tem a maior diversidade comparada com outras espécies de tartarugas. Objetivou-se avaliar aspectos ecológicos da comunidade de helmintos gastrointestinais e relacionar com a condição corporal de tartarugas-verdes recolhidas no litoral do Espírito Santo. Foram utilizados 36 exemplares juvenis da espécie C. mydas. O trato gastrointestinal foi separado e dividido em porções: esôfago/estômago, intestino delgado e intestino grosso. Cada porção foi inspecionada à procura de parasitos, e os exemplares encontrados foram separados para posterior identificação. Das 36 tartarugas avaliadas, 34 estavam parasitadas por helmintos (94,44%), com um total de 10.734 helmintos. Foram encontradas 18 espécies de trematodas pertencentes a quatro famílias. A riqueza de espécies encontrada foi de 4,29±2,19 (1-10) e a intensidade média de infecção foi de 315,64±281,83 (2-994) helmintos. Os parasitos mais prevalentes foram Cricocephalus albus, Metacetabulum invaginatum e Neoctangium travassosi, ambos com 61,11% (22/36), Pronocephalus obliquus com 33,33% (12/36), e Glyphicephalus lobatus com 30,55% (11/36). O helminto mais abundante foi M. invaginatum com 70,63 helmintos/animal, seguido de C. albus com 58,77 helmintos/animal e N. travassosi com 41,75 helmintos/animal.

As tartarugas marinhas são répteis, de aproximadamente 220 milhões de anos, que surgiram no período triássico. No mundo existem sete espécies de tartarugas, destas, cinco aparecem no Brasil: Dermochelys coriácea, Chelonia mydas, Caretta, Eretmochelys imbricata, Lepidochelys olivacea, (SANCHES, 1999). Essas espécimes estão com risco de extinção, sendo protegidas por leis nacionais e internacionais de acordo com a União Internacional de Conservação da Natureza (IUCN). Avaliar e enumerar o impacto ambiental causado pelo desenvolvimento e turismo não sustentável, através de ações antrópicas responsáveis por estes impactos que atingem as tartarugas marinhas e seu ecossistema. Descrever formas de turismo sustentável, ecologicamente correto que preservem a vida destas espécies na praia de Porto de Galinhas – PE. A presente pesquisa realizou-se através de um amplo levantamento bibliográfico através de material impresso, digital, contido nas revistas científicas, artigos, livros, web que tratam deste assunto. Explorar através de procedimentos o meio ambiente danificando-o menos possível quanto ao turismo sustentável, já que poder político e o capitalismo se sobre põem diante do meio ambiente e dos animais. Nos locais de desova da tartaruga, existir a sinalização nas praias que impeça o deslocamento de pessoas e automóveis, as construções de casas, devido à iluminação artificial que desorienta as mesmas, neste período, preservando a fase de nascimento das tartarugas marinhas. As tartarugas marinhas são importantes elos da cadeia alimentar, como consumidores, atingem diversos níveis na cadeia. Nas ultimas décadas, elas veem sofrendo ameaça de extinção, principalmente pelo impacto ambiental negativo causado no seu habitat por ação antrópica. Preservar as espécies de animais e as das tartarugas marinhas é preservar a própria história da evolução da vida e do mundo.

The synthesis of crown ethers derived from meso-tartaric acid was investigated. The sodium salt of the bis(dimethylamide) of meso-tartaric acid reacted with diethylene glycol ditosylate to give a mixture of 18-crown-6 tetraamide and 27-crown-9 hexaamide crown ethers. The 2R,3S,11S,12R 18-crown-6 isomer crystallized in triclinic space group [Formula: see text] (a = 7.557(2), b = 8.866(2), c = 10.4133(13) Å, α = 94.13(2), β = 95.86(2), γ = 99.26(2)°, R = 0.040 for 2090 observed of 3129 unique reflections). The structures of the remaining products were then assigned from the NMR spectra. The solution conformations of the amide crown ethers were examined by NMR, and provide a rationale for the product distribution obtained. One of the 18-crown-6 isomers and a mixture of the two 27-crown-9 isomers were hydrolyzed to the respective crown ether carboxylic acids, and the stability constants for complexation of cations were determined by potentiometric titration. The meso tetra- and hexacarboxylates are remarkably nonselective and inefficient cation complexing agents, compared to related crown ethers from R,R-(+)-tartaric acid, due to the unfavorable conformational control exerted by the tartaro units. O trabalho registra capturas incidentais de tartarugas marinhas pela frota industrial camaroneira na costa norte do Brasil. Os dados foram obtidos a partir de observações e registros realizados a bordo para o Projeto “Biologia e pesca do camarão-rosa da costa norte do Brasil”, do Centro de Pesquisa e Gestão de Recursos Pesqueiros do Litoral Norte, durante o período de 2000 a 2007. O estudo acompanhou 3.945 lances de pesca e no ano de 2004 registrou a captura de dois exemplares de tartaruga-oliva Lepidochelys olivacea (Eschscholtz, 1829) em profundidades de 21 a 45 m.

Slovenian cuisine is traditionally related to the use of buckwheat, especially common buckwheat. At the Education Centre Piramida Maribor there are developing possibilities of using common and Tartary buckwheat in modern gastronomy. This paper presentings buckwheat dishes, which were developed and upgraded according to the trends in modern nutrition, along with market responses. Present varieties of buckwheat bread made with different leavening agents (e.g. yeast, sourdough, baking powder, cream of tartar, mineral water and without rising agents), confectionnery (e.g. cakes, pies, cream-pies, strudels, biscuits) from Tartary buckwheat, common buckwheat and other flours and also Tartary buckwheat pasta are presented. Buckwheat (either as gruel or as flour) can also be used as an ingredient in filling the chocolate pralines or in ice cream. In addition various buckwheat dishes with a touch of contemporary trends and culinary art are introduced. Furthermore, the possibilities of using common and Tartary buckwheat flour for gluten-free confectionery and for a variety of sweet and savory gluten-free dishes in the culinary will be presented. The latest speciality will be the presentation of buckwheat bread, confectionery and pasta combined with edible flowers.

Fagopyrum tataricum (L.) Gaertn, is an annual plant that has been grown as food for human and domestic animal consumption in the Canadian maritime provinces, but it is a serious weed in north central and north eastern Alberta and in certain parts of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The weed occurs in a wide variety of habitats, including spring cereal and oilseed crop fields, waste places and roadsides. It causes reduced crop yields, dockage losses, cleaning costs, lowering of grade and quality, and necessitates costly chemical and cultural control measures. Fagopyrum tataricum seeds are difficult to remove from wheat. RESUMO: Amostras de sangue de Tartaruga-da-Amazônia mantidas em cativeiro foram analisadas com o propósito de avaliar os constituintes bioquímicos séricos e de relacionar ao que já foi relatado por outros pesquisadores, além de gerar mais informações, tendo em vista a escassez de dados envolvendo a espécie estudada. Foram utilizados 35 animais, com idade entre 3 e 7 meses, os quais foram contidos fisicamente para coleta de sangue em tubo sem anticoagulante. As análises bioquímicas foram processadas através de métodos cinéticos (enzimas) e colorimétricos (demais análises), e os valores médios obtidos foram: cálcio 7,0±1,9mg/dL, fóforo 2,8±1,2mg/dL, ácido úrico 1,8±0,8mg/dL, uréia 10,4±3,9mg/dL, alanina aminotransferase (AST) 75,5±33,6 UI/L, proteína total 1,9±0,8g/dL, triglicerídeos 22,9±9,8mg/dL e colesterol 45,3±19,7mg/dL. Observou-se que os valores dos componentes séricos avaliados assemelham-se aos que foram encontrados por outros pesquisadores em estudos bioquímicos séricos com Podocnemis expansa e outras tartarugas de água doce. Importante ressaltar que, no decorrer deste estudo observou-se a escassez de dados publicados sobre parâmetros sanguíneos de tartarugas do gênero Podocnemis, especialmente a espécie Podocnemis expansa, o que corroborou a alta relevância do desenvolvimento de mais pesquisas que envolvam a questão.

The amount of titration acid in must is in the largest number of cases with in the range 5.0-8.0 g/dm3. Wines, as a rule, contain less acids than must, and according to Regulations, titratable acidity is in the range of 4.0-8.0 g/dm3 expressed in tartaric acid, because a part of tartaric acid is deposited in the form of salts (tartar or argol) during alcohol fermentation. For wines that contain less than 4 g/dm3 of titratable acids there arises a suspicion about their origin, that is, that during the preparation some illegal acts were done. Because of that, the aim of this paper is to determine titratable acidity in white wine, using standard methods of determination, which are compared with the results received by potentiometric titration using ion-selective electrode. According to the received results it can be seen that wine titration with indicator gives sufficient reliable values of wine titration acidity. However, as potentiometric titration at pH value 7.00 is more reliable and objective method, the values of titratable acids content in wine, expressed through tartaric acid, are given according to this result. The analysis of differential potentiometric curves shows that these curves can give us an answer to the question of the presence of a larger amount of other nonorganic substances, which have already existed in wine. However, none of the used methods gives absolutely reliable answer what substances are present in analysed samples.

The aim of this experiment was to eliminate SO2 ions present in wine using the anion-exchanger resins. To compare the effectiveness, 2 following strongly basic anion-exchange resin were used. When activated, the sodium bicarbonate solution (activation solution I) is used to prevent parallel reduction of sulphites, tartates and malates, so the anion-exchange resins were activated in two-step activation. In the second step, it was immersed into a mixture of malic acid and tartaric acid (1:1). After the application of anex into wine, the content of total SO2 was reduced to 97–201 mg.L−1 (depending on the amount of anex added into the wine sample). According to our expectations, the variants with anion-exchange resin activated only with bicarbonate solution, the tartrates and malates were significantly reduced. If the anion-exchange resin was activated with a two-steps activation, the tartaric acid and malic acid were reduced in the range of ± 0.13 g.L−1. This phenomenon was strongly reflected at the anion-exchanger Aqua Osmotic 02. The changes in antioxidant content were not affected by the type of anion-exchange resin, the method of activation, or an amount of used anion-exchanger. The color parameters of wine, expressed by the L * a * b *, were not significantly affected by the effects of anion-exchange resin use.
