Анотація:
The development of new means of telecommunications, such as IP-telephony, messengers, applications for videoconferencing, platforms for distance work with documents (for example, googleapps) and others have been promoting recently the change-over of employees to distance (remote) work. The article analyzes findings of the survey dealing with distance work. Two hypotheses were put forward for the research: 1) work from home would be more productive for many people; 2) a lot of people would assess distance work positively and would prefer it to office work. Both hypotheses were confirmed by survey findings. Another goal of the research was to identify positive and negative sides of distance work with subsequent investigation of possibilities to eliminate minuses and of impact of pluses on employees’ motivation. Recommendations for companies’ executives and HR-divisions were prepared dealing with possibility and usefulness of full and partial change-over to remote work. In view of business, change-over of employees to distance work may have the following advantages: cut costs for rent of offices; upgrade business processes and communications; introduce advanced work technologies; raise efficiency, motivation and satisfaction of employees.

Context:Lower extremity functional testing assesses strength, power, and neuro-muscular control. There are only moderate correlations between distance hopped and isokinetic strength measures.Objective:Determine if incorporating body weight in the single-leg hop for distance increases the correlation to isokinetic measures.Study Design:Correlational study.Setting:Musculoskeletal laboratory.Participants:30 healthy college students; 15 men and 15 women; ages 18 to 30 years.Main Outcome Measures:Isokinetic average peak torque and total work of quadriceps and hamstrings and single-leg hop work and distance.Results:Significant correlations include hop work to total-work knee extension (r= .89), average peak-torque knee extension (r= .88), distance hopped to total-work knee extension (r= .56) and average peak-torque knee extension (r= .63). Correlations involving hop work were greater than distance hopped (P< .05).Conclusions:Use of body weight in the assessment of distance hopped provides better information about the patient’s lower extremity strength and ability than the distance hopped alone.

The distances are determined for 142 Galactic planetary nebulae, using two methods. Method A is based on the stellar mass and surface gravity, while Method B makes use of the stellar luminosity. These properties of the central star are inferred from the modeling of the distance-independent parameters (Zhang and Kwok 1992). The results from the two methods used in this paper are consistent with each other. A distance of 10.8 kpc is found for K648 using Method A of this work. This is in excellent agreement with the distance of 10 kpc of its hosting globular cluster M15. The distances obtained in this work are in good agreement with the distances of Mendez et al. (1992), based on the recently developed non-LTE model atmospheres including spherical extension and stellar winds. The agreement of our distances with the individually determined distances of Gathier et al. (1986a, 1986b), using the extinction-distance method and the HI 21 cm absorption method, is worse than that found between ours and Mendez et al.'s. The distances obtained by Gathier et al. are likely often to be underestimated. The various statistical distance scales, except for Cudworth's (1974) distance scale, show no agreement with the distances determined in this work. CYZ was supported by the NASA grant NAG 2–67.

Understanding the functional geography of the metropolitan region, and developing location criteria for smart growth, requires analysis of subcentres and their effects. Subcentres were identified in the Copenhagen area based on spatial analysis of micro-level employment and retail data. Subcentres' effects on transport in addition to regional centrality were studied with regression analysis of work and nonwork travel behaviour data. Distance to employment subcentres with a minimum of 10,000 jobs and distance to subcentres identi fied from retail data and having a minimum of 400 retail jobs affects residents' daily travel distance and/or transport modes. A short distance to a subcentre allows for shorter daily travel distances and, in the case of retail subcentres, for a higher probability of using public transport or walking/cycling. However, the effects of subcentres are well below the still strong and significant effect of regional centrality upon travel distances as well as mode choice.

WELL WRITTEN, THIS BOOK shows that two of the most vulnerable groups from either side of the health agenda are at risk. Cramer has identified the professional and personal risks of the health professionals who provide health services to Australia?s most disadvantaged group. In providing service, nurses are put into some of the most difficult situations and have to cope with added stress of providing health care that is outside their training and professional dimensions. Decision making is made difficult by having little or no health history; language barriers; and poor communication with the support service. Prevention and maintenance services are poorly delivered because of lack of time and resources. Visiting medical officers only have enough time to see acute patients, and review of medication is not done. To add to this predicament, the nurses have to contend with a very mobile community, unable to provide payment and fulfil other commitments of the client. Their workload and expected duties are not always appreciated by management and other support services. Where there should be two registered nurses, only one is employed. They often have to travel long distances to follow up clients, be on duty for long hours, or participate in community discussions outside the clinic times. The nurses who continue to work in isolated Aboriginal communities are special and over time have developed their practice. The question is, is it best practice or more an ad hoc practice? Nurses in remote areas work under stressful work and living conditions and continue to provide the only health service for the community, if they don?t give up and leave. Nursing in remote Aboriginal communities is not romantic or exotic, but can be rewarding for some of the nurses. This book should be read by all health care professionals, especially those considering working in rural or remote areas.

Background:Little is known about the relationships between objectively measured commute distance with actual and perceived transport-related physical activity (TPA) engagement.Methods:A telephone survey assessed travel behaviors to place of work/study within an adult sample (n = 772) residing in New Zealand.Results:Overall, 50% of respondents perceived they could, and 10% of the sample actually did, use TPA modes to commute to their occupation for distances less than 5 km. Differences between TPA perceptions and engagement existed for all distance classifications, and prevalence declined as distances increased.Conclusions:Differences between TPA engagement and perceptions were evident. Actual and perceived TPA engagement levels declined as commute distance increased.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the mediating role of psychological empowerment in the relationship between ethical leadership and employee work engagement as well as the moderating effect of power distance orientation.Design/methodology/approachWith a multi-wave survey, this paper uses a sample of 251 employees from the banking sector in Pakistan to test the hypotheses.FindingsThe results reveal that psychological empowerment partially mediates the relationship between ethical leadership and employee work engagement. Besides, power distance orientation mitigates the positive relationship between ethical leadership and psychological empowerment as well as the indirect effect of ethical leadership on employee work engagement via psychological empowerment.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the existing ethical leadership literature by identifying psychological empowerment as an additional mediator and power distance orientation as a boundary condition, in the relationship between ethical leadership and employee work engagement.

The current epidemiological situation, which has developed not only in Russia, but all over the world, has become the basis for rethinking the content, forms, methods of training future social work specialists. Distance learning has become the only educational technology that ensures, on the one hand, the isolation of students and their safety in the context of the spread of COVID 19, on the other hand, the mobility of students while continuing their studies. Beforethe official transfer of the education system to distance learning, in foreign and domestic practice of professional training of future social work specialists, little experience in distance learning was accumulated. The purpose of the article is to concretize the essence of distance learning for future social work specialists; identify problems and determine the conditions that improve the quality of distance learning for future social work specialists. The analysis of this experience allows us to conclude that the interactivity of distance learning presupposes the advancement of new requirements for the roles of the teacher and the student, the organization of their interaction. As a result of the author's research, problems were identified related to the implementation of distance learning (imperfection of technical support, unpreparedness of the teaching staff to conduct classes in a distance format, lack of the possibility of «live communication», insufficient self-discipline and self-organization of students, etc.), which do not contribute to high-quality education, personal and professional development of students. There is a lack of readiness of first-year students after the experience of distance learning at school to continue it at the university; sophomores generally prefer offline learning; third and fourth year students are more inclined to study in a distance format. The basis for the formation of a positive experience of distance learning for future social work specialists is: information and technical competence of all participants in the educational process, the formation of certain personal qualities, as well as the possibility of blended learning (traditional and distance).

Humanity has entered one of its most global experiments: will employees who have experienced a new work model return to the office version? Which of the long-standing myths about remote work have already lost their relevance? How do modern digital tools transform the attitude of employers and employees to remote work? What does remote work change in the company's HR management practice? We have tried to answer at least some of these questions in this article, based on personal experience of remote work and studying the practices of remote labor relations in Russia and abroad.

This research investigates the commuting trade-offs between individuals in two-worker households with home and work locations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). A commuting trade-off occurs when a home relocation results in one worker incurring a higher commute distance for the other worker to work closer to the home location. This research uses stated preference data and multilevel modeling to demonstrate that two-worker households adjust their home–work spatial configuration which results in commuting trade-offs between individuals. This research uses the angle between the two workplaces, measured at the home location, as a variable in its empirical model. This variable is a descriptor of the home–work spatial configuration and a predictor of total household commute distance. The modeling results indicate an inverse relationship between total household commute distance and the difference between individual commutes. This suggests that individuals in two-worker households trade off their individual commute distances and, in that process, reduce total household commute distance. A key policy implication arising from this research relates to the jobs–housing balance within a catchment area. Two-worker households have been regarded as a hindrance to achieving jobs–housing balance as the two work locations present a constraint in relocating the home near both work locations. However, as this research shows, workers will trade off their individual commute distances such that a home relocation results in a shorter commute distance for one worker and longer commute distance for the other.

SummaryBackground: The development of new resources, such as surgical techniques and approaches, results in continuous modification of surgery. To assess these modifications, it is necessary to use measures that quantify the impact of resources on surgical processes.Objectives: The objective of this work is to introduce and evaluate distance measurements that are able to represent differences in the courses of surgical interventions as processes.Methods: Hence, we present four different distance measures for surgical processes: the Jaccard distance, Levenshtein distance, Adjacency distance, and Graph matching distance. These measures are formally introduced and evaluated by applying them to clinical data sets from laparoscopic training in pediatric surgery.Results: We analyzed the distances of 450 surgical processes using these four measures with a focus on the difference in surgical processes performed by novices and by experienced surgeons. The Levenshtein and Adjacency distances were best suited to measure distances between surgical processes.Conclusion: The measurement of distances between surgical processes is necessary to estimate the benefit of new surgical techniques and strategies.

AbstractThis paper is about a distance education subject redesign undertaken in School of Information Studies at Charles Sturt University. This paper presents a theoretical framework supporting a constructive alignment in subject redesign grounded on some valuable learning theories, namely social constructivism, cooperative learning and collaborative learning. The theoretical framework guided the redesign of a postgraduate subject INF441 Information Management in Organizations. In the subject redesign, constructive alignment for learning environment, intended learning outcomes, teaching and learning activities and assessment tasks were carefully checked. The paper reports the effects of the subject learning design after the subject was subsequently taught by the same designer in the role of a subject coordinator/lecturer. Group work tools in CSU Interact (a learning management system using Sakai) were able to create an appropriate learning environment for the successful running of the subject. The subject redesign created an effective beneficial learning environment in the presence of the affordance of the learning management system ‘CSU Interact’.

Undeclared labor has become an increasingly present phenomenon nowadays. Due to the pandemic context, there has been a transition towards working from home or under telework regime. These particular forms of individual labor contracts allow for greater flexibility in terms of the place where a natural person works but, on the downside, they allow the parties to disguise the agreement or to avoid fulfilling the formalities imposed by the Law, such as concluding the contract in a written form and registering its elements in the General Record of Employees. In light of the aforementioned, we aim to identify if the labor inspectors have effective means of identifying the cases of undeclared labor when natural persons are working remotely. Through this paper, in the first section, we discuss the legal background both at the national as well as at the international level, in order to shed light on the concept of undeclared work. The following two sections will be dedicated to analysing if the inspection has any perspective of being an effective mean of identifying the situations of undeclared labor. Finally, several directions of action are contoured – as de lege ferenda proposals – so as to tackle the issue of undeclared work.

A summary is given of the calibration of the Cepheid scale required in the derivation of distances from observations at V and I, as in the HST work on extragalactic Cepheids. There is some evidence that a small metallicity correction may be necessary in deriving distances in this way. The evidence for this comes both from observations of Cepheids of different metallicities and from a comparison of the LMC distance modulus derived from Cepheids and that derived by other methods.

This paper introduces the topic of “Collaborative Distance” within Distributed Collaboration as being an introduction to this Special Issue on Collaborative Working Environments1 (CWE). In this paper, the authors discuss various related concepts, identified during an extensive literature review, on both proximity and distance in distributed collaboration. Then, a Collaborative Distance Framework (CDF) is proposed in deriving its four dimensions and related factors from the existing body of knowledge. The following section discusses the interest of such a CDF and introduces the articles published in this special issue. The concluding section discusses the articles’ contributions, limitations and future work as well as recommendations for future research in this area.

A Questionnaire was used to obtain information from 960 long distance truck drivers about the drivers” experience, type of employment and their working conditions, type of driving operation, as well as details of their last trip and their last working week. Operations specifically designed to combat driver fatigue by provision of a relief driver in a team operation did not appear to achieve their intended outcome. The potential benefits of such operations appeared to be outweighed by the greater distances and lack of flexibility that characterised these trips.
