Abstract:
This article uses concepts of magical realism by Wendy B. Faris to analyze Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. We analyze elements of magical realism of the work in mapping discourses between the text and the real life. The chosen material object that published earlier than the theory we chose make this work contributes to describe the trace of the civilization development; event of in-betweeness of human consciousness. However, we have found that A Midsummer Night’s Dream is only a magical realism-like mode, since realism is dominant in the text as the trace of modernity. Meanwhile, the

Abstract:
The amateur actors in A Midsummer Night’s Dream are compared several times with the fairies who inhabit a forest outside of Athens. This article will investigate the significance of the analogy by exploring commonalities between discursive elements in folklore, physiology, and philosophy that regard imaginative faculties as a powerful force. When contextualizing Shakespeare’s representation of acting and writing within early modern assumptions about the nature of the imagination and its relation to popular stories of monstrous births, fairies, and witches, we can see that A Midsummer Night’s D

Abstract:
This essay takes A Midsummer Night’s Dream as a case study for exploring Shakespeare’s relationship to pacifism. We argue that this play, which uses a love potion to end conflict and to suggest parity across various competing spheres, taps into early modern discourses about peace as well our own contemporary anti-war discourses. We take inspiration from Bernie Boston’s photograph “Flower Power” and Allen Ginsberg’s essay that first articulated that notion as we imagine the play’s faeries to be “flower children.” The essay ultimately argues that Shakespeare’s play, as well as its play-within-a-

Abstract:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s comedies assumed to be written between 1590- 1597. It can be regarded as one of the comedies because it is full of silly funny things and also has a happy ending although there is seriousness within the work for instance the representation of patriarchal society. This paper aims at describing the women's struggles in the play based on the theory of Simon de Beauvoir regarding the situation of married woman to see the phenomenon found in the work better. As the result of the analysis, it can be concluded that there is a gender awareness which ha
