Abstract:
Natural sun-dried raisins are susceptible to crop loss and quality reduction when rainfall occurs during the 2-3 week drying period. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effect of rainfall at selected stages of the raisin drying period on raisin quality. Thompson Seedless grapes were harvested and dried in the field using normal commercial practices. Raisins were moved to a humid chamber at the green, brown, turn, and roll stages of the drying period. Then, raisins were misted with 6.4 or 25.4 mm of water to simulate rainfall. Samples remained under humid conditions for approximately 48 hours after which they were returned to the field to complete the drying process. Raisin quality was evaluated by USDA incoming inspection procedures. The amount of rainfall had little effect on raisin quality at the levels in this experiment. However, raisin quality was significantly reduced when rainfall occurred at the green and brown stage of drying. Raisins which received rainfall at the turn and roll stages of drying were of comparable quality as control raisins.

Abstract:
Raisin aroma is a vital sensory characteristic that determines consumers’ acceptance. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in fresh grapes, air-dried (AD), pre-treated air-dried (PAD), sun-dried (SD), and pre-treated sun-dried (PSD) raisins were analyzed, with 99 and 77 free- and bound-form compounds identified in centennial seedless grapes, respectively. The hexenal, (E)-2-hexenal, 1-hexanol, ethyl alcohol, and ethyl acetate in free-form while benzyl alcohol, β-damascenone, gerenic acid in bound-form were the leading compounds. Overall, the concentration of aldehydes, alcohols, esters, acids, terpenoids, ketones, benzene, and phenols were abundant in fresh grapes but pyrazine and furan were identified in raisin. Out of 99 VOCs, 30 compounds had an odour active value above 1. The intensity of green, floral, and fruity aromas were quite higher in fresh grapes followed by AD-raisins, PAD-raisins, SD-raisins, and PSD-raisins. The intense roasted aroma was found in SD-raisins due to 2,6-diethylpyrazine and 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethylpyrazine. Among raisins, the concentration of unsaturated fatty acid oxidized and Maillard reaction volatiles were higher in SD-raisins and mainly contributed green, fruity and floral, and roasted aromas, respectively.

MICHAEL P. FROHLING, for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater, presented on 29 March 2010, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: VISUAL STORYTELLING: THE LIGHTING DESIGN OF A RAISIN IN THE SUN MAJOR PROFESSOR: Mark Varns Visual Storytelling: The Lighting Design of A Raisin in the Sun is a culmination of the lighting design for the play Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry. This production by Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Department of Theater was produced in February 2009. This thesis chronicles the design process in all aspects from beginning to end. The document begins with a textual analysis of the script along with accompanying research. The second chapter focuses on design meetings and the process of coming to decisions about "Raisin". These decisions were arrived at through careful considerations of metaphoric analysis and through imagistic research using internet search engines and volumes of different artists. It also describes the implementation of those decisions. Chapter three focuses on the goals and evaluations of the production. A series of appendices contains image research, light plot, applicable paperwork, and production photos.

Abstract:
Um exemplo disso é a obra A Raisin in the Sun da autora afro-americana Lorraine Hansberry.
The aim of this dissertation is to show that theater is an effective way of selfrepresentation as well as a powerful weapon used in order to subvert hegemonic values. When considering contemporary drama, mainly the one produced by the so-called minority groups, it is possible to find several authors who made of their works site for protest against oppression, violence and discrimination imposed by the excluding colonial discourse. One clear example of such a work is the play A Raisin in the Sun written by the African-American writer Lorraine Hansberry. The author shows that theater can represent a possibility for the historically excluded groups to bring into public awareness the situation of oppression lived by their community, protesting against it and subverting the hegemonic discourse which tends to value just canonical works and stories. In contemporary times, many stories/histories taken for a long time as marginal or ex-centric, such as the African-Americans for example, became known through transgressive and subverting productions that came out as an attempt to express the self, giving voice to groups so far excluded - or as Hutcheon referred to them, marginalized - rewriting their stories/histories. After some initial considerations related to the theory of drama, we intend to highlight some of the challenges that the Other faces while searching for his/her identity and better opportunities promised by the American Dream in the play A Raisin in the Sun. We also intend to present some of the challenges presented by such work during the translation process due to its strong cultural peculiarities. Besides, we intend to discuss some of these challenges to be faced by Intercultural Translation in A Raisin in the Sun

Abstract:
The present work intends to analyze the plays 'A Raisin in the Sun', by Lorraine Hansberry, 'Dutchman', by Amiri Baraka, and 'Blues for Mister Charlie', by James Baldwin, regarding the male characters' performance of the African-American masculinity. Written during the height of the Civil Rights Movements of the 1960s in the United States, these plays carry a strong critique of mainstream American society, which permits a clearer perception of the obstacles, responses and healing processes involved in the African-American man's construction of his manhood. To substantiate this research, it was first necessary to revisit Gender Studies to localize the problems of the construction of masculinity along with the issue of hegemonic masculinities. Only after observing the patterns related to the shaping white hegemonic masculinities in American society is that subjugated masculinities, such as African American's, can be comprehended. The construction of masculinity the characters Walter Jr., Clay and Richard undergo exemplifies the theory used to observe and describe the obstacles and responses African-American men face to reach their manhood. Each character in their own way confronts similar obstacles, as well as responds to them similarly, displaying a pattern of African-American men's obstacles and responses involved in the construction of black manhood. Besides, the process is painful to the characters in all the three plays, and the pain inflicted upon them, sometimes, is only extinguished by their death. Nonetheless, it is in the healing process that the most paradoxical aspect of this construction is highlighted. It is through the mending and bonding support offered by their women that black men are finally able to reach their maturity as men and overcome their problems

Abstract:
The study takes into account the polyphenolic composition of Meriot, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Tannat grapes and wines fTom vineyards located in the South of Uruguay. Different cultural and environmental situations were considered, including vines conducted in lyre and trellis in the three varieties, cluster thinning in veraison in Meriot and Cabernet-Sauvignon and cordon Royat pruning and Guyot pruning in Tannat lyre. Tannat grapes presented the highest contents of sugar, total polyphenols, total and extractable anthocyanins, non-acylated and coumarylic anthocyanins. Tannat wines presented the highest contents of alcohol, total acidity, dry extract, total polyphenols, total and ftee anthocyanins, catechins and proanthocyanidins. They also were the most coloured, the reddest and darkest wines and those with the highest proportions of ionised anthocyanins and the most polymerised and condensed tannins. The average anthocyanic profiles of the wines of the three varieties were similar to those obtained in the respective skin extracts. Tannat grapes and wines had the highest non-acylated glucosides, petunidin and delphinidin proportions; Cabernet-Sauvignon presented the highest acetylated glucosides and malvidin proportions, whereas Meriot presented the highest coumarylic glucosides and peonidin proportions. Lyre conduction in Meriot allowed to obtain the highest yields and the grapes with the highest sugar and anthocyanin contents. Consequently, wines of this variety conducted in lyre had the highest alcohol, polyphenols and anthocyanins contents than those ftom trellis. Ln aIl the situations studied, the "year" effect was very significant, especially in relation to the polyphenolic composition of grapes and wines of the three varieties. The definition of the duration of the maceration for each variety, on the basis of the indices determined for the grapes in the maturity, the assays in the laboratory and the follow up of the polyphenols extractions in the vinification, allowed to establish extremely high correlations between the polyphenolic potential of the grapes and the colour and the phenolic composition of the wine. The knowledge of the anthocyanic and tannins richness of the grapes and its extractability allow to improve the management of the vinification and the prediction of some of the wines characteristics, such as its colour and phenolic composition

Abstract:

Abstract:
Sun comes into prominence as both a strong and clean energy source. Because of its being inexhaustible and creating an effect reducing import dependency, a noticeable progress has been made in solar-oriented technologies in recent years. In this regard, Germany as the pioneer in world, China whose installed solar capacity has overtaken Germany, and the USA and Japan which caught up Germany became benefited from solar energy significantly nowadays. Besides, the EU countries like Italy, England, France, Spain and Belgium are also raising their installed solar capacities. Turkey has relatively high solar potential compared to the EU countries. However, it is not benefiting from solar energy sufficiently. Because its setup costs are still higher than other sources, solar production requires to be carried out R&D activities intensively. For these R&D activities there is a need for big budgets. Developed countries mentioned above could have been successful in allocating these budgets. Turkey as a developing country has difficulties in this respect. The purpose of this paper is to reveal required policies and works to raise installed solar capacity and benefit more from solar energy in Turkey. In this context, primarily, policies imposed in leader countries in world with regards to benefit from solar energy will be examined. Thereafter, imposed policies and developments in Turkey until today in this respect will be mentioned. Consequently, suggestions will be made for Turkey in light of experiences of the countries that could have succeeded to benefit from solar energy by higher rates in primary sources.

Abstract:
In summer, the temperature of a parked automobile compartment increases extremely high under a sunny condition. Investigation of this fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics is very important for controlling the effect of major design parameters. This paper address the behavior of fluid flow through convection and air temperature inside a car parked in the sun. The numerical solution was done by a new and operation friendly CFD code – SC/Tetra with a full scale model of a SM3 car and turbulence was modeled by the standard k-ε equation. It can be seen that solar radiation is an important parameter to raise the compartment temperature above the ambient temperature during summer. Numerical analysis of the three-dimensional model predicts a detailed description of fluid flow and temperature distribution driven by the incoming solar radiation (insoaltion) in the passenger compartment.
