Abstract:
This paper describes a novel, controllable adhesive that combines the benefits of electrostatic adhesives with gecko-like directional dry adhesives. When working in combination, the two technologies create a positive feedback cycle whose adhesion, depending on the surface type, is often greater than the sum of its parts. The directional dry adhesive brings the electrostatic adhesive closer to the surface, increasing its effect. Similarly, the electrostatic adhesion helps engage more of the directional dry adhesive fibrillar structures, particularly on rough surfaces. This paper presents the ne

The concept of shrinkage phenomenon is widely described in the available literature. With respect to pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) in general, the definition of shrinkage is understood to be "less than its original size" and is closely related to the crosslinking process and the effect of the crosslinker on the test adhesive. Shrinkage alongside adhesive properties (adhesion, tackiness) and mechanical (cohesion) is one of the most important characteristics of a self-adhesive adhesive. Hybrid joints that combine adhesive bonding with pre-tensioned bolts exhibit superior mechanical performance compared to exclusively bonded or bolted joints. However, the adhesive flow during manufacturing in hybrid joints often results in a nonuniform adhesive thickness, where obtaining an exact thickness is crucial for accurate load capacity predictions. Abstract:
Bio-based adhesives are derived from renewable resources such as plant-based materials, animal by-products, and microbial sources. Latex-based bio adhesives, specifically those made from natural latex derived from plant sources, have garnered significant research interest. While natural rubber remains the most commonly used bio source for latex adhesives, this study explores the potential of Pterocarpus indicus wild (PIW) latex as an alternative and discusses modifications that can be made to enhance its adhesive properties. Additionally, this research examines the effect of additives such as

Abstract This paper presents some results of modelling of the adhesive interaction of solid particles with the substrate at collision parameters characteristic for the Cold Spray process. A simple physical model based on comparison of adhesion energy and energy of elastic deformation generated under the particle impact is suggested. Empirical expressions for energies of adhesion and elastic deformation are obtained. It is shown that there is an optimal range of particle size and velocity providing high deposition efficiency for a given particle material. The results of the modeling are in good

Abstract:
This working paper examines how Colombia’s renewable energy auctions can foster a just and inclusive energy transition by integrating socio‑economic and community‑driven objectives. We propose two complementary pathways: (1) enhancing large‑scale project benefit sharing and community engagement, through strengthened qualification requirements and multicriteria award mechanisms, and (2) scaling up energy communities by reserving auction quotas via an adhesion process and establishing a dedicated support agency. These pathways offer a unique chance to embed non‑price indicators – such as socio‑e

Abstract:
External, corrosion-caused loss of wall thickness is the most common cause of repair for gas transmission pipelines. To prevent an area of corrosion damage from causing a pipeline to rupture, the area containing the corrosion damage must be reinforced. Since corrosion is a time dependent process, as pipelines become older, more repairs are required. Repair methods that can be applied from the inside of a gas transmission pipeline (i.e., trenchless methods) are an attractive alternative to conventional repair methods since pipeline excavation is precluded. This is particularly true for pipeline

Abstract:
Tire rubber waste (TRW) is a complex mixture of materials, such as rubbers, steel, textile fibers, carbon black, and other additives. Its polluting capacity is a severe environmental problem, especially in landfills and waste management processes. As a practical solution to mitigate TRW’s environmental impact, thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) commonly reuse the ground tire rubber (GTR). This work presents an in-situ devulcanization of ground tire rubber (DGTR) and re-vulcanization of devulcanized ground tire rubber using dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and waste ethylene-vinyl-acetate (wEVA). Many hard coating materials have been developed and based on the use of metal alkoxide or organosiloxanes prepared via the sol-gel process. Titanium glycolate, zirconium glycolate and silatrane precursors were processed as hard coating materials for polyurethane lens. These precursors are inexpensive and the preparation reaction is simple and straightforward. The effects of the sol-gel process parameters, viz, the type of precursors, the coupling agent (GPTS), and the curing agent (3-APS) were investigated. The surface property evaluation of ophthalmic lens was conducted with respect to the sc

Abstract:
At the beginning of this project, it was clear that R. albus adhered tightly to cellulose and its efficient degradation of this polysaccharide was dependent on micromolar concentrations of phenylacetic acid (PAA) and phenylpropionic acid (PPA). The objectives for our research were: i) to identify how many different kinds of cellulose binding proteins are produced by Ruminococcus albus; ii) to isolate and clone the genes encoding some of these proteins from the same bacterium; iii) to determine where these various proteins were located and; iv) quantify the relative importance of these proteins
