Abstract:
The effect of feeding varying levels of African yambean in cassava peal meal based diet was evaluated in a 12 week feeding trial. Thirty two (32) New Zealand white x Chinchilla crossbred weaned rabbits of about 8 weeks old mixed sexes were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups of 8 rabbits each in a completely randomized design. They were allotted to 4 different diets as follows: African yambean based diets, T1 (control 0%), T2 (10%), T3 (20%) and T4 (30%). The rabbits were housed individually in cages and supplied daily with feed and water ad-libitum under a mixed feeding regime w

Abstract:
This paper evaluated the nutrient and sensory properties of blends of African yambean (Sphenostylis stenocarpa) and malted red rice (Oryza glaberrima) yoghurt analogue. The proximate analysis of the yoghurt shows that the moisture and protein content was significantly (P<0.05) higher than the values obtained for the control. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) observed in the ash contents of both samples. The yoghurt recorded mean scores that were significantly different (P<0.05) in all tested attributes with the control. The mean scores for the sensory attributes of the AYB

Yoghurt analogues were produced using African yambean (Sphenostylis stenocarpa Hams) and malted red rice (Oryza glabberima). Optimization of the mixture components and process factor was carried out using combined optimal mixture design, viscosity, syneresis and acceptability as responses were analysed. The fitted regression model for viscosity, syneresis and acceptability were all significant (P<0.05) with coefficient of determination (R2) values of 0.9992, 0.9983 and 0.9904 % respectively. The coefficient of variation (cv) values were 0.992, 6.58 and 6.58 % respectively. The lack-of-fit f

Abstract:
A 12-week feeding trial was carried out using 30 West African Dwarf (WAD) bucks of age between six and eight months with mean initial body weight of 9.36±1.31 kg, to determine the effect of sun-dried, urea-treated and fermented dietary cocoa pod husk meal (CPHM) as well as dietary CPHM with protein supplementation (African yam bean meal) on blood characteristics. Five experimental diets: T1 (0% CPHM-control), T2 (40% sundried CPHM), T3 (40% ureatreated CPHM), T4 (40% fermented CPHM) and T5 (40% CPHM and 10% African yambean) were formulated.
