The purpose of this research was to evaluate if Alka-Seltzer Effervescent and/or Bicitra, ingested preoperatively, increased gastric pH >2.5 and if so, which of the two products sustained the increase for the greatest length of time. It has been shown that under apoptosis and calcium influx, metalloproteinases (MMPs) work in concert with the enzyme γ-secretase to disassemble adherens junctions.
