Martin, Edward. "Determining the Amount of Irrigation Water Applied to a Field." College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, University of Arizona (Tucson, AZ), 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/147030.

Full text
Abstract:
3 pp.<br>Critical to any irrigation management approach is an accurate estimate of the amount of water applied to a field. Too little water causes unnecessary water stress and can result in yield reductions. Too much water can cause water logging, leaching, and may also result in loss of yield. This publication discusses how to set the water amount and the time period, when taking the system's efficiency into consideration.

Abstract:
The amount of time cattle spend standing in streams is one input parameter needed by computer models when total maximum daily load (TMDL) plans are being developed. This input parameter is estimated using professionals' best judgment because experimental data are not available, and estimations are generally inconsistent. The goal of this study was to gain a better estimate of the amount of time cows spend in streams, since this has a significant impact on direct fecal coliform loadings to streams. Significant factors influencing the amount of time cattle spend in streams were identified, an

Abstract:
Peatlands store 30% of global terrestrial organic carbon. At the Mer Bleue research site in southern Canada (45.40° N, 75.50° W), it has been shown that changes in water storage affect carbon fluxes in and out of the peatland. Mer Bleue has a distinct hummock – hollow surface topography. The micro-topographical features affect the temporal and spatial variations in water table. Sampling the temporal and spatial variations on two separate plots with varying degrees of micro-topographic relief took place during the 2010 field season. Each plot has 100 manual observation wells in a 2 x 2 metre gr

Abstract:
Measurements of runoff quantity and quality from three cattle stocking treatments applied to pastureland in southwestern Virginia indicate the need for further research to determine treatment effects. Three cattle stocking treatments (1) Continuous, 2) Rotational, and 3) Mob) were applied to three pastures at the Virginia Tech Prices Fork Research Farm. Rainfall simulations were performed over replicated plots in each treatment to induce runoff for collection of runoff quantity and quality data during the 2012 grazing season. Additionally, rainfall simulations were performed prior to applying
