Orientador: Marco Antonio Zanini<br>Resumo: Neurocisticercose é a doença parasitária mais comum do sistema nervoso central. É causada pela ingestão de ovos de Taenia solium, cujas larvas se instalam nos diversos espaços intracranianos e no parênquima encefálico. Uma de suas principais complicações é a hidrocefalia, que pode estar presente em até 30% dos casos. O tratamento da hidrocefalia na neurocisticercose é mais complexo que nas outras formas de hidrocefalia. As taxas de disfunção de derivação ventricular para o peritônio são altas, bem como as taxas de morbidade e mortalidade associadas.

Objective: To develop a model of chronic jaw muscle allodynia using acidic saline infusion in humans. Methods: Buffered acidic (pH 5.1) or normal (pH 7.2) saline was infused into the masseter of 20 healthy subjects for 20 minutes. Sensory and motor tasks were conducted prior to infusion and 1, 24, 48, and 72 hours post-infusion. Results: Acidic saline induced mild pain during infusion, discomfort during motor tasks and mild allodynia that lasted for at least 24 hours. Of primary consideration was Bayesian design, i.e. designs found based on undertaking a Bayesian analysis of the data. This thesis presents the experimental and theoretical studies of nonthermal and stable atmospheric-pressure glow discharges. With the excitation frequency in the kilohertz range, a uniform and stable glow discharge has been successfully produced in atmospheric helium without the usually indispensable dielectric barrier. For this barrier-free cold atmospheric discharge, there are two discharge events occurring, respectively, in the voltage-rising and the voltage-falling phases, and in general they compete with each other. This distinct feature is illustrated through a detailed fluid simulation.
