This thesis describes the design, construction, and evaluation of a series of LED array photolysis systems for high throughput photochemistry. Three generations of array systems of increasing sophistication are evaluated using calorimetric measurements and potassium tris(oxalato)ferrate(III) chemical actinometry. The results are analyzed using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Cromolyn sodium (CS) is a mast cell stabilizer which has been used to treat systemic mastocytosis, allergic- and exercise-induced asthma, and allergic reactions induced by atopic dermatitis. The free glutathione is present mainly in its reduced form (GSH) and can be converted to the oxidized form (GSSG) in the presence of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The GSH/GSSG ratio high is very important for the cellular redox state and a reduction of this ratio is often used as an indicator of oxidative stress. The enzyme glutathione reductase (GR) catalyzes the reduction of GSSG to GSH using NADPH.
