Appearance of the refraction effects and Faraday rotation of the plane of polarization of linearly polarized X rays has been analyzed for transmission and reflection at grazing incidence angles for a resonant film with allowance for the X-ray magnetic or Mössbauer scattering. It is shown that, when the magnetization is oriented along the radiation beam direction, magnetic additives to the susceptibility do not affect the phase shifts between the waves reflected from the surface and the substrate; however, they induce “orthogonal polarization” in the reflected beam, which corresponds to rotatio

Rotations of the electric vector position angle (EVPA) in blazars are often close to an integral multiple of 180°. There are many examples of this in the literature, and we strengthen the evidence by showing that, in the RoboPol monitoring program, nπ rotations occur more frequently than otherwise expected by chance. We explain this using a model consisting of two polarized emission components: a “jet” that is constant in time and a “burst” that is variable. The EVPA of the combination is EVPAjet at both the beginning and the end of the burst, so the net rotation across the burst must be nπ. S

Furthermore, the results demonstrate that the twisted bilayer α-MoO3 can excite the strong chirality with the maximum circular dichroism (CD) of 0.89. The magneto-optic properties of interest are the Faraday Effect, Kerr Rotation, and the Cotton–Mouton Effect. In 1846, Michael Faraday discovered that when linearly polarized light passes through glass in the presence of a magnetic field, the plane of polarization is rotated. The Faraday Effect is now used in a variety of microwave and optical devices. Normally the Faraday experiment is carried out in transmission, but rotation also occurs in reflection, the so-called Kerr Rotation that is used in magneto-optic disks with Mbit storage capability. From the discussions in Chapters 1 and 3 it is clear that the theory is invariant under parity. Since QED is rotationally invariant and the parity transformation can be made up of a mirror reflection and a rotation, parity violation is equivalent to a breakdown of mirror reflection symmetry.
