Abstract:
Accurate flow measurement is required to effectively manage water resources. California Senate Bill X7-7 (SB X7-7), legislates this need by requiring agricultural water providers serving areas greater than 25,000 acres to develop an Agricultural Water Management Plan (AWMP) and adopt pricing based at least partly on volumetric water deliveries (DWR, 2009). This study focused on two of the most common flow measurement/flow control devices used in California open channel water conveyance systems: the circular meter gate and the rectangular meter gate. Abstract:
Mitral valve regurgitation is a common disorder affecting 2-3% of the general population. The morphological and functional remodelling of the left atrium caused by this disease could favour blood stagnation and consequently stroke risk. Several clinical studies suggest that stroke risk stratification may be improved by using hemodynamic information on the left atrium. The goal of this study was therefore to develop a new approach for the assessment of complex blood flow patterns in the left atrium which could quantify the hemodynamic implications of the mitral valve regurgitation on sick patie

In this thesis we discuss the asymptotic behavior of the solutions of scaled reaction-diffusion equations in the unbounded domain Rn × (0 + ∞), in the cases when such a behavior is described in terms of moving interfaces. As first class of asymptotic problems we consider the singular limit of bistable reaction-diffusion equations in the case when the velocity of the traveling wave equation depends on the space variable, i.e. cε = cε(x), and it satisfies, in some suitable sense, cε/ετ → α, as ε → 0+, where α is a discontinuous function and τ is an integer that can be equal to 0 or 1. This procedure is dedicated to the outer region and central part of channels. The proposed model is applicable to both rough and smooth flow regimes, provided the velocity at the inner-outer boundary has been properly defined. Abstract:
Purpose: A time of flight approach to the analysis of 4D CT angiography is examined to calculate blood flow in arteries. Materials and Methods: Software was written to track contrast bolus TOF along a central vessel axis. Time density curves were analyzed to determine bolus time to peak at successive vessel cross-sections which were plotted against vessel path length. A line of best fit was plotted through the resulting data and 1/slope provided a measurement of velocity. Results: Validation was successful in simulation and in flow phantoms, though quality of results depended strongly on quali

Ultrasound imaging techniques have become increasingly successful in the medical field as they provide relatively low cost and totally safe diagnosis. Doppler methods focus on blood flow for the diagnosis and follow-up of cardiovascular diseases. First Doppler methods only measured the axial component of the motion. More recently, advanced methods have solved this problem, by estimating two or even all three velocity components. In this context, high frame rate (HFR) imaging techniques, based on the transmission of plane waves (PW), lead to the reconstruction of 2-D and 3-D vector maps of bloo
