Abstract:

Tematem artykułu są autobiografie kopalne, które wykraczają poza ramy antropocentrycznego rozumienia pisma potraktowanego tutaj jako ichnoskamieniałość, ślad aktywności życiowej organizmów kopalnych. W związku z tym podjęto kwestię istnienia pisma zwierząt, które z jednej strony bazuje na filozoficznym pojęciu śladu (Derrida), z drugiej zaś na zapisie kopalnym w obszarze paleontologii. W rezultacie powyższych rozważań autor, wprowadzając za Davidem Hermanem pojęcie międzygatunkowego współautorstwa, koncentruje się na kopalnej autobiografii trylobitów – morskich stawonogów, które ostatecznie wyginęły podczas wymierania permskiego – prezentując zarówno historię ich odkrycia, jak i literackie reprezentacje epoki wiktoriańskiej, których punktem wspólnym stają się oczy trylobitów. Fakt posiadania oczu czyni je ancestralnymi świadkami ewolucji życia na Ziemi i pozwala na włączenie ich w optykę ludzkiego doświadczenia. W tym sensie trylobity obok figury autora tekstu stają się współautorami literackich autobiografii kopalnych.

Abstract Vor nahezu zwanzig Jahren konstatiert Günter Niggl in der Einleitung des von ihm in zweiter Auflage herausgegebenen Studienbuchs Die Autobiographie1, dass ,,[s]eit etwa zwei Jahrzehnten“ in den Geisteswissenschaften das Interesse an Autobiografien ,,sprunghaft angestiegen“ sei.2 ,Autobiografieforschung‘ und ,Biografieforschung‘ haben fortan Konjunktur. Jüngst erschien etwa bei Walter de Gruyter der Sammelband ,,Biography in Theory“3, der Theorietexte zu auto/biographischen Schreibpraktiken und Forschungsfragen unter literaturhistorischer Perspektive zusammenführt. Die Literaturwissenschaftlerin Anja Tippner und der Historiker Christopher F. Laferl stellen den primär gattungsorientierten Sammelbänden einen interdisziplinär ausgerichteten Reader zur Seite, der dezidiert Texte zur Theorie der Biographie und Autobiographie kombiniert und zudem die Gattung der ,Memoiren‘ einbezieht (vgl. S. 11 f., 34). Zusammenhänge und Unterschiede der drei genannten Gattungen werden anhand definitionstauglicher Merkmale näher bestimmt und transparent dargestellt. Diese Herangehensweise ist dem Versuch geschuldet, diejenigen Gattungen zu spezifizieren, die im Sammelbecken des Begriffs life writing unterzugehen drohen (vgl. S. 10). Der Sammelband offeriert in chronologischer Ordnung diejenigen Theorietexte, die bekannte Weg- und Wendemarken innerhalb der weiten Forschungslandschaft ,,lebensgeschichtlichen Erzählens“ repräsentieren (S. 34). Ermöglicht wird auf diese Weise ein fundierter, kulturhistorischer Überblick über zentrale Analysefragen und -methoden innerhalb der europäischen wie angloamerikanischen Autobiografie- und Biografieforschung. Die ausgewählten Textpassagen (u. a. Wilhelm Dilthey, Jean Starobinski, Gérard Genette, Nancy K. Miller, Judith Butler) werden von einleitenden Kommentaren begleitet, die die jeweiligen Editionszusammenhänge wie kulturellen Kontexte bündig referieren. Den Abschluss eines jeden Kapitels bilden weiterführende bibliografische Angaben, die eine vertiefende Lektüre anleiten. Auffallend ist in diesem Zusammenhang, dass innerhalb der Textauswahl und den ergänzenden bibliographischen Angaben primär Texte der Achtziger-, Neunziger- und teilweise Nullerjahre dominieren. Dies überrascht angesichts der Tatsache, dass zum vorgestellten Themenkomplex des Sammelbandes ein Fundus an Forschungsliteratur jüngeren Datums verfügbar ist. Die Präsenz etwaiger Forschungsliteratur jüngeren Datums in der Theorietextauswahl hätte das stetige Interesse, die konstante Profilierung und interdisziplinäre Vernetzung wie Neujustierung der Autobiografie- und Biografieforschung belegen können. Das Vorhaben ,,aktuelle Standpunkte“ (S. 34) versammelt darzubieten, wird demnach nur bedingt umgesetzt, da die Leseempfehlungen es den RezipientInnen selbst überlässt, ihren Weg in die aktuelle Forschung zu finden. Die Einleitung Anja Tippners und Christopher F. Laferls bietet demgegenüber einen konzisen und breiten Überblick. Aktuelle Debatten und Forschungsschwerpunkte wie digitale Medien4, ,,visuelles und textuelles Material“ (S. 18) oder ,,kollaborative“ Schreibtechniken (S. 19) werden zwar in der Einleitung diskursiv erfasst und dennoch in der folgenden Textauswahl weitestgehend vernachlässigt. Der Band versammelt insgesamt siebzehn Theorietexte von vierzehn Theoretikern und drei Theoretikerinnen; dabei entfallen zwei der drei Texte von Theoretikerinnen auf den Bereich ,Gender‘, obgleich Geisteswissenschaftlerinnen auch jenseits der Geschlechterforschung nachhaltig zur Autobiografie- und Biografieforschung publiziert haben.5

Abstract:

Vorspann Bücher haben ihre Geschichte. Wie spannend und lehrreich sie sein kann, zeigt der Historiker Lothar Machtan in einem äußerst lesenswerten Aufsatz über das Memoirenwerk des letzten kaiserlichen Kanzlers. Max von Baden und sein engster Berater Kurt Hahn scheiterten zweimal mit ihrem Versuch, das Image des Prinzen als Totengräber der Monarchie durch aufwändige Selbstmythografie zu korrigieren - zum ersten Mal in der Weimarer Republik, als die Erinnerungen gewogen und als zu leicht befunden wurden, und zum zweiten Mal Ende der 1960er Jahre, obwohl kein geringerer als Golo Mann die Neuauflage besorgte. Als seriöse Geschichtsschreibung getarnte Geschichtspolitik hatte nun erst recht keine Chance mehr. Das Vetorecht der Quellen wog ebenso schwer wie das kritische Urteil der Historiker, die ihrem Ruf als unbestechliche Instanz alle Ehre machten.

Abstract:

Gli articoli di questo numero 4 di Mnemosyne mettono a fuoco il carattere teleologico di tante autobiografie. Analogamente a quanto afferma Frank Kermode (1967) per il romanzo il senso della fine è insito nell’atto stesso del raccontare. Le fiabe sono vere, ha scritto Italo Calvino perché « sono il catalogo dei destini che possono darsi a un uomo e ad una donna, soprattutto per la parte di vita che appunto è il farsi d’un destino » (1967). Inscriversi in un solco rassicura o giustifica l’accaduto. Le modalità sono diverse, e l’idea di una forza del destino è la tela di fondo di molte narrazioni autobiografiche.

De Nederlandse historicus Pieter Geyl (1887-1966) was tijdens de tussenoorlogse periode de schepper van een ’Groot-Nederlandse geschiedschrijving’. Die had als doel de Histoire de Belgique van Henri Pirenne te discrediteren, hoewel Geyl binnenskamers erkende dat zijn Geschiedenis van de Nederlandche Stam een 'aftreksel' was van Pirennes werk. De lastercampagne tegen Pirenne was een onderdeel van Geyls völkische Groot-Nederlandse irredenta, om België te scheuren en de Nederlandstalige helft ervan, Vlaanderen, bij Nederland te annexeren. Dit werd vanaf 1975 aangetoond aan de hand van Geyls gepubliceerde briefwisseling, maar eerlingen van Geyl hebben dat met verontwaardiging ontkend. De publicatie van zijn autobiografie zou de ogen zelfs van blinden moeten openen.________The autobiography of Pieter Geyl: Self assurance and candourThe Dutch historian Pieter Geyl (1887-1966) created a ‘Greater Netherlands historiography’ during the interbellum period. Its objective was to discredit the Histoire de Belgique by Henri Pirenne, although Geyl admitted privately that his Geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Stam was a ‘rehash’ of Pirenne’s work. The libel campaign against Pirenne was a part of Geyl’s völkische (populist) Greater Netherlands irredenta, to split Belgium and to annex its Dutch speaking half, Flanders, to the Netherlands. From 1975 this was demonstrated on the basis of Geyl’s published exchange of letters, but his students denied this with great indignation. The publication of his autobiography ought to open the eyes of even those who cannot see.

Abstract:

This Ph.D thesis analyses seven autobioraphies by italian writers, all born in in the Eighteenth century: Vittorio Alfieri, Carlo Goldoni, Lorenzo Da Ponte, Giacomo Casanova, Filippo Mazzei, Francesco Bal. It is divided in two parts: the first concerns with microtextuality aspects (incipit, explicit, dialogues, descriptions); the second deals with the macrotextuality ones (structures of time, structures of the plot). Besides evalutating in which ways the autobiographies organize their narration, the author compares them with Eighteenth Century italian novels and with other autobiographical works to see how much their structure is different.

Abstract:

Die normal außergewöhnliche Autobiografie einer Jüdin erzählt von den Jahren nationalsozialistischer Verfolgung. Eine rekonstruktive, sequenzanalytische Untersuchung dieser Autobiografie zeigt den originellen Umgang der Autorin mit ihren Gefühlen während des Erinnerungsaktes ein halbes Jahrhundert nach Kriegsende. Ruth Burghardt fasst ihre Emotionen nicht in Worte, sondern flicht diese mittels nonverbalen Zeichen – Gedankenstrichen und Auslassungspunkten – in ihren Lebensbericht ein. Des Textes individuelle Strukturmerkmale zeigen das Potential des gewählten methodischen Zugangs zu dieser Art von individueller, biografischer Quelle sowie die Bedeutung nonverbaler Anteile schriftlicher Texte. Ein Seitenblick zu den Literaturwissenschaften verweist auf Möglichkeiten methodisch erweiterter Untersuchungen.
The analysis of Shoah survivor Ruth Burghardt’s autobiography shows her individual way of handling emotions. Half a century after persecution by the Nazis came to an end, she does not put her feelings into words but expresses them by adding nonverbal signs – dashes and ellipses – to her written life story. The present analysis illustrates the potential of a reconstructive approach towards such individual, biographical sources and gives an idea about methodological extension.

Nell'ambito di un'indagine sull'identità del rivoluzionario nel XIX secolo, calata tra gli attivisti coinvolti nella Comune di Parigi, si è trattato di selezionare quelle autobiografie scritte e pubblicate da comunardi come parte integrante della loro attività politica, e così porre il problema del rapporto tra pratica autobiografica e rivoluzione, ovvero chiarire le condizioni del passage au récit, la scelta autobiografica e insieme la mise en intrigue tra esperienze individuali e rivoluzione. Questa ricerca si presenta dunque come un lavoro sulle pratiche autobiografiche all'interno delle pratiche di attivismo politico, ovvero più specificamente sulla relazione tra autobiografia e rivoluzione. In altri termini si analizza il modo in cui i rivoluzionari narravano la loro identità in pubblico, perché lo avessero fatto e cosa veicolavo in termini di stili di vita e convinzioni particolari. In quanto rivoluzionari, l'autobiografia diviene fonte e parte di ciò che essi reputavano in quel momento la propria traiettoria rivoluzionaria, la narrazione di quella che in quel momento ritenevano comunicare al pubblico come propria identità narrativa. La ricerca si articola in tre momenti. Nel primo capitolo analizzo le biografie, o meglio un piccolo gruppo tra la massa di biografie di comunardi edite all'indomani della Comune da parte della pubblicistica tanto ostile quanto partigiana della Comune. Queste narrazioni biografiche diffuse nei mesi successivi alla repressione della rivoluzione comunalista consentono di affrontare una delle condizioni fondamentali del passage au récit autobiografico che si manifesterà solo posteriormente. Il secondo e il terzo capitolo sono dedicati a due progetti autobiografici di diversa natura: la trilogia autobiografica di Jules Vallès (1879, 1881, 1886) e le Mémoires di Louise Michel (1886).
As part of an investigation of revolutionary identity in the XIX century, declined on the activists involved in the Paris Commune, it was to select those life-stories written and published by the Communards as part of their political activity, and thus to pose the problem of the relationship between autobiographical practice and revolution, clarify the conditions of passage au récit, the autobiographical choice and the mise en intrigue of the individual experiences and revolution. This research thus provides an inquiry of the autobiographical practices within the practices of political activism, or more specifically on the relationship between autobiographical narratives and revolution. I analyse the way in which the revolutionaries told their identity in public, the reasons why they had done and what they spreaded in terms of lifestyles and beliefs. As revolutionaries, the autobiography becomes a source and a part of what they considered their revolutionary path, the narrative of what at that time they believed to communicate to the public as their own narrative identity. The research is divided into three parts. In the first chapter I analyse the biographies, or rather a small group among the mass of published biographies of Communards after the Commune. These biographical narratives help address one of the fundamental conditions for the passage au récit which will be appeared only later. The second and third chapters are dedicated to two autobiographical practices of different nature: the autobiographical trilogy of Jules Vallès (1879, 1881, 1886) and Memoirs of Louise Michel (1886).

Abstract:

Lo studio della filosofia passa attraverso diversi strumenti che testimoniano il pensiero degli autori. Il caso dell’autobiografia filosofica è particolare: da Seneca, passando per Agostino si ritrova ancora una volta in Rousseau; rappresentando usi e costumi in diverse epoche e luoghi, è un’esposizione della società, ma è anche l’espressione massima dell’ego umano che cerca di raccontare di sé tutto il possibile, la propria crescita e le proprie sconfitte. L'aspetto che colpisce maggiormente, in detto genere, è il modo in cui gli autori si fanno umani ed entrano in contatto con il pubblico, che s’immedesima e comprende più a fondo ciò che ha portato il filosofo a sviluppare un determinato pensiero. Proprio per questi motivi l’autobiografia è un mezzo da prediligersi nella selezione di materiali per lo studio della filosofia: a difendere questa affermazione vi sono gli studi delle tecniche di pedagogia e didattica sviluppatisi nell’ultimo secolo e mezzo. In questa tesi vogliamo dimostrare che l’autobiografia è il testo più adatto per la comprensione del pensiero dell’autore, facilmente accessibile per una lettura di piacere, e quindi diffondibile. Questo compito sarà assolto attraverso la presentazione di varie autobiografie filosofiche che hanno segnato i passaggi fondamentali dello sviluppo di questo genere, e l’analisi pedagogica che può essere fatta del risultato di tale sviluppo. Il fine è quello di proporre il testo autobiografico come primo punto di approccio ai testi dell'autore, in particolare nelle scuole superiori.

Abstract:

La tesi si occupa di indagare le dinamiche della vergogna, insieme con le sue articolazioni narrative, nel contesto della letteratura autobiografica e testimoniale del secondo dopoguerra. In particolare, la vergogna viene utilizzata come filtro critico, al fine di individuare i dispositivi fondamentali del genere. Nella prima parte, l'autore della tesi si propone di individuare tali dispositivi nelle scritture della Shoah. Il focus viene comunque diretto su Primo Levi, Robert Antelme, Jorge Semprún (prima generazione) e Georges Perec, David Grossman, Jonathan Littell, Art Spiegelman (seconda generazione). The aim of this Phd thesis is to investigate the dynamics of shame, along with its narrative articulations, in the context of autobiographical literature after World War II. Shame is used as a critical filter, in order to identify the rhetorical and narrative devices and of the genre. In the first section, the author of the thesis aims to identify these key devices in the Shoah writings, focusing on Primo Levi, Robert Antelme, Jorge Semprún(first generation) and Georges Perec, David Grossman, Jonathan Littell, Art Spiegelman (second generation) The results will be verified in the second section of the thesis, by focusing on the italian literature produced by authors involved in acts of war. In particular, the focus will be on Giuseppe Berto's work.

Abstract:

In the last decades, both cognitive and personality researchers and different-oriented therapists and clinicians have converged on the powerful role that narrative memory plays, as anchoring aspect of personality and identity. Many studies have demonstrated that spontaneous self defining memories (Singer & Salovey, 1993; Blagov & Singer, 2004) evoked and provoked in clinical setting can provide valuable information for assessment about repetitive themes and recurrent patterns of feelings linked to ongoing goals or conflicts that are central to the individual. However, the work still leaves open the question of how human beings think in this manner and how personal memories, spontaneously evoked during the clinical interview, are useful for personality assessment and case conceptualization. The present study intended to pursue three goals. First, the aim was to introduce and to demonstrate reliability and validity of the Coding System for Autobiographical Memory Narratives in Psychotherapy (Singer & Bonalume, 2008) for identifying and coding autobiographical memory narratives in clinical interview. The study demonstrates good inter-rater reliability and the utility of the coding system. Consequentially, we aimed to investigate, first the relationship among autobiographical memories dimensions, as content, specificity, meaning making and emotional tone, and the relationship between these memories dimensions and patient’s self and personality functioning, evaluated with clusters of indexes, according to the Exner’s Comprehensive System for Rorschach (Exner, 2003).The autobiographical memories during semi-structured clinical interviews for bio-psycho-social data recollection and Rorschach responses of 30 patients were recollected. The Coding System for Autobiographical Memory Narratives in Psychotherapy (Singer & Bonalume, 2008), the Classification and Scoring System for Self-defining Autobiographical Memories (Singer e Blagov, 2001) and for Content (Thorne & McLean, 2001), the linguistic analysis by software CM (Mergenthaler, 1999) and Exner’s Comprehensive System for Rorschach (2003) were used. The results demonstrated that a strong negative association existed between specificity and integrative meaning; integrative memories were largely independent of event content affect, while specificity were related in a predictable manner with both negative emotional tone memories and narratives about life-threatening experiences and relationships. The generalized estimating equations confirmed that the overgeneral memories lean on affective disturbance, characterized by a ruminative thinking and an usual concerns about self-esteem and dysfunctional attitudes. Moreover, the ability to generate integrative meanings from narrative memories is not effected only by the subject’s affective regulation, but also by the cognitive behaviour, closely related to overgeneral and emotional memory. The ability to engage in autobiographical reasoning in order to construct a coherent and generative life story reveal degree of socioemotional maturity and level of adjustment. In addition, implications for future research and clinical practice using this model of analysis are discussed.

Die Frage nach dem Zusammenhang von autobiografischen Gattungsmustern und der Funktion von Körpern ist in der Forschung weitgehend bisher unbeantwortet. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden Beispiele der deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur anhand von Kategorien untersucht, die für das Gattungsmodell der Autobiografie maßgeblich sind. Dabei wird zum einen die Diversität von Körpern in autobiographischen Texten nachgewiesen, zum anderen zeigt sich, wie Körper zu integrativen Bestandteilen autobiografischer Muster werden und so unter anderem zu der Entwicklung eines Selbst beitragen, das im Zentrum des Autobiografischen steht.
