This paper articulates the basic features of Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance (ATP). Contextualizing it in drama therapy practice as a performance-based intervention, the paper describes ATPs roots in experimental theatre and grounds its features in psychotherapy concepts. The paper outlines the main therapeutic constituents of ATP: Narrating lived experience, shaping the material into aesthetic forms, embodying, and rehearsing personal stories that have been processed, performing in front of an audience, and integrating new insights in the post-performance reflection. This article describes the reflections and insights attained through the process of developing and performing autobiographical therapeutic performances (ATPs) in the diaspora, by discussing the experiences of three Spanish-speaking dramatherapists who migrated to the United States and Switzerland. The pieces were created in the context of their dramatherapy trainings: Cuban-born Idalmis García graduated from the drama therapy programme at NYU, Spaniard Ramón Guitart from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco, and Mexican-born, Elke Jorzyk, trained at the Swiss Dr

The Senegalese artist Khady Sylla, most celebrated for her writing, is a highly accomplished filmmaker whose innovative and challenging autobiographical documentary on mental health, Une Fenêtre ouverte (2005), has been the subject of very little academic interest. This paper will read Une Fenêtre ouverte as a poetic, performative, and reflexive autobiographical documentary, focusing in particular on the ethical implications and formal innovations of Khady Sylla's documentary practice. My reading of this film will therefore be primarily informed by the points of tension and ambiguity in the re

Twenty dementia clients were given vigilance and autobiographical recall tasks, both with and without background music in a repeated measures design. The music was either novel or familiar, the pieces being matched on three affective scales. Autobiographical recall was significantly better in music than in quiet, but there was no effect of familiarity. Performance on the vigilance task was subject to both floor and ceiling effects. There was some indication thatmusic was more beneficial for the more severely impaired clients. The results favour an explanation of the facilitatory effect of musi

We can find certain similarities in theatre forms, topics and relationships to drama manifested and used by the artists of the same generation – so-called millennials operating primarily on the independent scene. They are more interested in autobiographical texts than in the original dramatic texts. The author is not represented as one person but as a cooperation of a collective of authors. It is the whole group of creators, the actors or performers included, who create the final shape of the text. It seems that expressing authenticity – in the text and on the stage – becomes the main intentio

<p&

BackgroundFibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a widespread chronic pain syndrome with many associated symptoms. It is frequently related to a traumatic event (1), strong and of short duration, or slight but protracted over time. A multidisciplinary therapeutic approach is recommended by international guidelines. The transformative experience (TE) allows for a profound and immediate change that differs from linear and gradual psychological change; this helps create novel responses to the same initial thoughts and actions, thereby breaking the maladaptive emotional/behavioral loop elicited by chronic

This complex practice as research project was designed to interrogate the potential of 'Traumaturgy', an emergent dramaturgical methodology, in addressing the many challenges of writing, staging, and performing, autobiographical trauma narratives and to understand the impact of this process on the psychic, and somatic memories, of the autobiographical performer. The methodology was designed to motivate complex reflections on personal and cultural traumata as critical provocations for the re-writing and performing of the memory-scripts associated with the autobiographical traumatic life events
