Abstract:
Two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures have introduced unconventional phenomena that emerge at atomically precise interfaces, and further development is expected in mixed-dimensional heterostructures. Here we discuss exciton physics in 1D-2D heterostructures consisting of one-dimensional carbon nanotubes and two-dimensional tungsten diselenide. Both the chirality and the layer number are identified before assembling the clean and free-standing heterostructures, allowing for investigation of the band alignment effects. For small band gap nanotubes corresponding to type I band alignment,

Abstract Most pipeline operators are using back-to-back In-line Inspection (ILI) tool runs to calculate corrosion growth rate (CGR). The CGR is used to predict the remaining life of pipe based on identified corrosion features. This methodology can be problematic as corrosion is a stochastic (non-linear) process. CGR can be higher due to unexpected factors involved with the operation of the pipeline that include, but are not limited to, heavy rain fall, increased operating temperature and changing soil condition due to excavation. Moreover, predicting remaining life on polyethylene (PE) tape co

This study investigates the prevalence, types, and impacts of bank fraud in Nigeria, comparing it with similar cases in developed countries. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines quantitative and qualitative data from annual reports, academic articles, and case studies. By analysing these sources, the study identifies the factors contributing to bank fraud in Nigeria and evaluates the effectiveness of preventive measures implemented by Nigerian banks. The findings reveal that while Nigeria has experienced a significant increase in bank fraud cases, the average amount lost p

Abstract The efficiencies observed in simul-frac operations are commonly associated with a singular, four-plus well pad containing an even number of wells. These efficiencies yield significant savings and reduction in overall completion time, expedite first-production and substantially reduce the time in which offset wells are shut in during frac operations. The introduction of remote simul-frac operations in the Delaware Basin, proven by Matador Resources Company in their Stateline asset, has removed this operational single-pad limitation by connecting adjacent multi-well pads and opening the

Effective resource allocation in hunger-relief agencies relies on data-driven decision-making. In recent years, major hunger-relief organizations, such as food banks, have increasingly adopted data visualizations as a fundamental tool for presenting and comprehending analytics. As this trend has gained momentum, the need for establishing a standardized approach for food banks to presenting visualizations has become evident. These visualizations must be efficiently interpreted by users to prevent potentially dire miscommunications. A usability evaluation was conducted on selected visualizations

The feedback loop between sovereign and financial sector insolvency has been identified as a key driver of the European debt crisis and has motivated an array of policy proposals. We revisit this “doom loop” focusing on governments’ incentives to default. To this end, we present a simple 3-period model with strategic sovereign default, where debt is held by domestic banks and foreign investors. The government maximizes domestic welfare, and thus the temptation to default increases with externally-held debt. Importantly, the costs of default arise endogenously from the damage that default cause
