Abstract A single-laboratory validation (SLV) study for the LC determination of biuret in dry and liquid urea-based commercial fertilizers was conducted. A total of 23 samples were used: 11 commercial dry urea products, two urea ammonium nitrate products, eight liquid urea-based commercial fertilizers, and four sulfur-coated urea samples from different sources. In addition, one biuret standard from Aldrich and one sample from the Magruder check sample program were used as validation samples. The proposed method is an extension of AOAC Official MethodSM 2003.14 and is based on dissolution of th

This research paper explores the qualitative analysis of protein samples using the Biuret reagent through microscale methods involving ceramic tiles, grooved tiles, and Eppendorf tubes. The study highlights the advantages of minimal reagent usage, reduced waste, and enhanced safety. The Biuret test is employed to detect peptide bonds indicative of protein presence. Protein concentrations used for the identity assay ranged from 0.1% to 1.0%. Protein was detected by all three methods compared; however, the Eppendorf method detected proteins at a concentration of 0.3% and above. The ceramic and g

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) is a non-protein amino acid widely recognized for its beneficial effects on human health, including its roles in reducing anxiety, regulating blood pressure, and promoting neurological health. In this study, an attempt is made to produce GABA using plant-based substrates—specifically carrot (Daucus carota) and radish (Raphanus sativus)—through microbial fermentation involving lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The selection of these vegetables is based on their availability, nutritional value, and natural content of fermentable sugars, which are critical for

Abstract: The detection of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in foodstuffs is crucial for understanding their nutritional content and quality. This analysis involves the use of simple chemical tests that produce observable changes, such as color changes, indicating the presence of these macronutrients. Carbohydrates are detected using tests like the Benedict's test for reducing sugars and the iodine test for starch. Fats are identified by the grease spot test or Sudan III dye test, while proteins are detected through the Biuret test. These methods are cost-effective, easy to perform, and essen

Quantitative tests for protein are essential for understanding the amount of protein present in a sample. Various tests have been developed, such as BCA, biuret, Bradford, and Lowry tests. These are the most common and standardised procedures for the determination of protein. The mentioned techniques are colourimetric assays. However, over a while, several more advanced techniques are also being developed. In this chapter, quantitative methods for protein are discussed.
