To my knowledge, few studies have investigated the effects of ingroup prejudice. Study 1 assessed the relationship between experienced ingroup prejudice and wellbeing. Results indicated that experiencing racism from the LGBT community was related to poor wellbeing amongst Black men (N=99). Partial correlations indicated that while controlling for other sources of prejudice, racism from the ingroup (i.e., LGBT community) continued to relate to the wellbeing of gay Black men (GBM); however, the relationship between racism from the outgroup (i.e., Whites) and wellbeing was lost. First, the white-institutional-phallus is established as the greater discursive structure driving negating discourses about non-heterosexual black men. <p> Gay and bisexual Black men experience higher lifetime depression rates than both White and Black heterosexual men. Some social stress researchers argued that this rate may be due to having two stigmatized minority identities and therefore being at greater risk. Using feminist film theory and intersectionality theory, the thesis analyzes the films Set It Off, Tangerine and Moonlight. This analysis includes three themes: 1) Stereotypes including drugs, violence and low socioeconomic status 2) Power relations including white and/or heterosexual supremacy 3) Representation of gender. For decades, blacks have faced shorter life expectancy than their white counterparts. This persistent disparity has led to a gap in life expectancy between the two groups. Nationally, this gap has decreased over the last 40 years. However, this is not the case at the state-level as some states have experienced little or no improvement in the life expectancy gap. A photonic crystal is any material which exhibits a photonic band gap (PBG) and is comprised of a periodic arrangement of alternating layers of different dielectric constant. It has been found recently that an interesting route to approach such materials is via the synthesis of block copolymers which are able to microphase separate. This thesis describes the synthetic methods, in particular anionic polymerization, used to prepare such copolymers which exhibit photonic properties in the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum.

A series of perfectly alternating polyimide/ poly(dimethylsiloxane) microphase separated block copolymers ranging from 0-50 wgt. % poly(dimethylsiloxane) have been measured for permeability characteristics. The polyimide segment of the copolymers was based on oxydiphthalicdianhydride (ODPA) and 1,4-Bis(4-amino-1,1- dimethylbenzyl)benzene (Bis P). The polysiloxane was an aminopropyl terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane).
