Although the phylogenetic relationship of Western Palearctic brown frogs has been repeatedly studied, the taxonomic status and phylogenetic relationship of Anatolian-Hyrcanian brown frogs is still not fully resolved. Here, we assess the phylogenetic status of these species among Western Palearctic brown frogs with special emphasize on Iranian populations based on two partial mitochondrial DNA sequences (16S rRNA and cytochrome b genes) and the application of a molecular clock. The Cordillera de los Andes is one of the most important regions for biodiversity. Among amphibians, many endemic species of terrestrial-breeding frogs have recently been discovered. Herein we describe Phrynopus sancristobali from the Andes of southeastern Peru based on molecular and morphological data. The new species is known from the ecotone between humid puna and montane forest at 3910 m a.s.l. on the left side of the Apurímac Valley in the Department of Ayacucho. The new species differs from congeners by having dorsum bearing pustules and light brown with dark brown reticulations surround

Larval amphibians are especially likely to encounter variation in temperature and resource availability because they live in a variety of aquatic habitats. In this study, plasticity in growth rates, survivorship, age and size at metamorphosis were examined in the Chinese brown frog (Rana chensinensis) under different combinations of rearing temperature and food level. Tadpoles reared at 23.2°C had larger mass at metamorphosis and a longer larval period than tadpoles reared at 25.3 and 28.1°C. High food level shortened the larval period and produced a larger size at metamorphosis. The interacti

However, seaweeds have a complex composition, and complete degradation of the material necessitates the presence of microorganisms with a broad substrate range. Abstract:
As gray divorce has increased over the past few decades (Brown, Lin, & Julian, 2024), many older adults have chosen cohabitation over remarriage when repartnering (Brown et al., 2019). In 2000, fewer than 1 million older men and women cohabited (Brown, Lee, & Bulanda, 2006). By 2017, this number had grown to approximately 4 million (Stepler, 2017) and reached 4.6 million by 2022 (Julian & Brown, forthcoming). Abstract:
I conducted bat surveys at Richmond National Battlefield Park to assess the status of bat communities following potential impacts of the disease white-nose syndrome. This disease, caused by the fungus Pseudogymnoascus destructans, has severely reduced populations of several bat species in the eastern United States, threatening some with regional extirpation. Most affected species include the little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus), northern long-eared bat (Myotis septentrionalis), Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis), and tricolored bat (Perimyotis subflavus). During the summers of 2016–2020, I sampled si

The flowers of Tyoha augustifolia were extracted with 70% methanol and distilled water in comparison. When the aqueous extracts obtained from both methanol and distilled water were tested for their effect on germination of the seeds of Mimosa pigra, the results showed inhibition by both extracts. Evidences from chemical tests and absorption spectra suggested presence of condensed tannins in both aqueous extracts. The addition of 10% bovine serum albumin to the aqueous extracts from both water and 70% methanol resulted in light brown precipitates. When the seeds of Mimosa pigra were grown in th
