Abstract:
The oldest Slavic copy of the Sermons by Gregory the Theologian – an extensive Old Russian (Old East Slavonic) manuscript of the 11th century (Q) – has great scientific value not only because it preserves the Old Bulgarian translation of one of the most important works of early Byzantine homiletics, but also due to the numerous marginalia that are presented on more than 60 pages of the codex. These marginalia are far from homogeneous in their origin. The oldest layer of additions to the text is represented by the Byzantine scholia, which were obviously present in the Old Bulgarian translation

The study highlights the contribution of the scholar Dionisiy Divniy to the enrichment of the lexical system and the semantics of words in the Bulgarian language. The article deals with the recently discovered Ustovski sbornik, a written monument from the Central Rhodope region. The collection was compiled and owned by Kiryak Byalkovski, a prominent figure in the Central Rhodopes. The texts included in the collection are written in the local Rhodope dialect using the Greek alphabet. John Chrysostom’s homilies, united under the heading “Against the Jews”, were delivered in Antioch in the second half of the 4th century. In the 14th century, six of them were translated into Bulgarian as part of the collection of Chrysostom’s homilies and sermons called “Margarit.” This study focuses on the quotations from the Apostle liturgical book registered in the translation of John Chrysostom’s anti-Judaic homilies. The Pandects, an anthology of passages from the Holy Scripture and the writings of the Church Fathers, was compiled in Medieval Greek in around 620 by Antiochus, a monk of the Laura of Mar Saba, at the request of hegumen Eustachius of the Monastery of Atalina. “The Sermon about Caesar Tiberius” is a little studied Old Russian homiletic text, which is based on an apocryphal story about a visit that Martha and Mary, Lazarus’s sisters, paid to Emperor Tiberius in Rome. The analysis of 31 manuscript copies of this homily reveals four redactions of the text. The so-called Bulgarian redaction, which is the earliest, is extant in a single fifteenth-century manuscript. The purpose of this article is to introduce a hitherto unknown copy of Sermon III from the Učitelno evangelie contained in manuscript No. 540 from the P. N. Tikhanov Collection (MS Tikh. 540) in the Russian National Library, Saint Petersburg. The manuscript is a Triodion Panegyrikon from the fourteenth century.
