Abstract:
The present research focuses on a case study of a locksmith business negotiation in Brazil. Its objective is to enhance the negotiation abilities of business negotiators, academics, and practitioners through a role-play simulation involving two parties and many issues. The present legal matter pertains to a government-owned enterprise and a privately-owned software producer, occurring within one month before the expiration of their contractual agreement spanning two years. The key results underscored the need to enhance integrative tactics, including the comprehension of the underlying interests of the other party and the production of value to attain mutually beneficial agreements. The potential ramifications of this study indicate the possibility of replicating the findings in many different commercial contexts, particularly those characterized by an imbalance of power. This study paper concludes with a discussion and provides recommendations for further research.

Abstract:
This paper highlights an original role-play exercise designed to teach students about the principles of ethical decision making. The exercise intends to create hypothetical ethical dilemmas that managers may encounter in their jobs, and challenges the students to apply the principles of ethical decision making to reach a solution in each case. This exercise is ideal for use by instructors of introductory courses such as principles of management, introduction to business or graduate level business administration concepts, or any class session with a primary focus on ethical decision making. We present a description of the exercise and suggestions on how to debrief it. The exercise also provides students with an opportunity to ponder their ethical values and complexities associated with the manager’s position in a company.

Abstract:
There is inadequate literature examining, and illustrating, the integration of play and business events and how this facilitates entrepreneurial opportunities. Business events are distinct from the patterns of ordinary life and increasingly offer participants an ‘invitation to play’, encouraging socialization and trust. This article examines the role of play in the design of business events and how this can enable entrepreneurial outcomes. Through examination of diverse, but related, literature and three contrasting, empirically based, case studies, this article illustrates how event creators take an increasingly entrepreneurial approach. These cases range from a charity event with participants sleeping with the homeless on a city’s streets, a major flooring manufacturer designing events to outsource innovation and an imaginative event activity termed ‘coffee and papers’. Designing events that fuse, rather than polarize, play and work enables business event settings, and activities, which trigger entrepreneurial outcomes. This article adds to the embryonic literature and concludes by identifying four principles that underlie the effectual facilitation of play in a business event setting.

Because few studies of disciplinary business writing have examined whether language features play a role in instructor assessment of student writing, this study explored the relationship between student language use and instructor essay scores. Undergraduate business students wrote a case study critique as part of their final exam, and their critiques were evaluated by their instructors for theory integration and essay structure. Student language use was analyzed in terms of error rate, lexical sophistication, lexical diversity, and phrasal complexity. Whereas lexical sophistication positively predicted instructor scores, error rate was a negative predictor of their assessment of business student writing.

Universities are currently expected to play a new role in society (in addition to research and teaching) by engaging in a third mission concerning socio-economic development. Universities also play an important role in encouraging entrepreneurs through training them in business planning. A business plan is a document summarising how an entrepreneur will create an organisation to exploit a business opportunity. Preparing a business plan draws on a wide range of knowledge from many business disciplines (e.g. finance, human resource management, intellectual property management, supply chain management, operations management and marketing). This article presents a computational tool for drawing up a business plan from a Colombian viewpoint by identifying the most relevant stages which are born in mind by national entities having most experience in creating and consolidating companies. Special emphasis was placed on analysing, designing and implementing a systems development life cycle for developing the software. Reviewing the literature concerning business plans formed an important part of the analysis stage (bearing a Colombian viewpoint in mind).

Abstract:
Family businesses play a pivotal role economically and socially in most countries. The study aimed to identify and understand the experiences of Indian family businesses in South Africa with regard to business succession. A quantitative research approach was used with data collected through Google forms online survey. Data was collected from sixty (60) business people from Indian-owned family businesses in South Africa. The study interrogated the following factors which have an influence on family business succession: business ownership influence in succession, business readiness for the exit of owner and succession, the role of the owner after exit from business and selection criteria of the right successor. Findings revealed that the majority of families (86.27%) said it is important to have a hundred percent or full ownership of the business and that a successor should be selected within the family from their bloodline. Findings also revealed that the majority of businesses (86.27%) were not fully ready for the exit of the owner or current leader of the business and that on the exit of the owner; a majority (90.2%) of businesses will prefer to have the owner playing an active advisory role in the business. It is recommended that family-owned businesses should plan for succession on time and draft a well-planned strategic succession plan for the business. It is also recommended that an objective criterion be used in selecting a successor who will take the business forward. Healthy business continuity should be the ultimate goal of succession and families should not sacrifice successful business continuity because of their, internal differences and conflict, culture, blood relations, gender or religion.

Abstract:
Considering the intensification of feminization in the labor market and the fact that the behavior of a woman and a man differ significantly in terms of content and factors that shape it, recent studies show that women play an increasingly important role in business management. This study aims to analyze women’s role in effective business management through a comparative analysis. This analysis is based on five components of effective business management: human resource management, business operations, strategic management, financial management, and marketing management. Fifty women and fifty men from Kosovo who manage businesses took part in the survey. Based on the results of the study, mainly the t-tests, there is a statistically significant difference between women and men in business management, where women were found to perceive the components of business management more successfully than men. Women demonstrate better results in human resources management, business operations, strategic management, financial management, and marketing management. Therefore, more women should be placed in leadership structures of different departments, depending on their specialization.

Business schools play a key role in training marketing professionals. However, there is a strong divide between the expectations held by marketing professionals and those held in academia. This article considers this phenomenon from a theoretical point of view and explores its causes. The author argues that business schools are able to play a key role in bridging theory and practice in marketing. The article closes by offering several suggestions for how business schools might increase the relevance of marketing research while reducing the gap between marketing theory and practice. In particular, the article suggests the adoption of an inductive approach to research and offers a set of policies that business schools can implement in order to close this gap.

Abstract:
Funding is an essential factor for the viability and growth of startups. As a result, business angels play a crucial role in providing financial support to these business companies, particularly those that are innovative and have significant potential for growth. This study sought to determine the role business angels play in the early-stage financing of startups. Specifically, the study looked at the value-added services provided by business angels, business angel funding impact on startup survival rates, the effectiveness of business angel networks’ impact on facilitating startup funding, and business angels’ contribution to the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems beyond financial investment for startups. This study adopted a systematic literature review methodology, employing key theoretical methods such as analysis, synthesis, comparison, and induction to assess the role business angels play in the early-stage financing of startups. The findings show that business angels’ expertise, networks, and mentorship emerge as critical value-added startup services. Similarly, it was found that business angel funding positively influences startup survival; however, other factors also influence this impact. Moreover, the results show that business angel networks play a significant role in facilitating startup funding. Furthermore, beyond financial investment for startups, it was found that business angels contribute significantly to the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems, including prioritizing the contributions of ecosystem builders in startup screening, access to mentoring, and entrepreneurial education. The study concluded that business angels play a positive role in the early-stage financing of startups.

Role-playing games develop the ability to organize and implement educational and cognitive activities in the field of vocational education. The article defines the role-playing game, its scenario features, methodical orientation. It also reveals its difference from business games. The author provides a description and analysis of several role-playing games that can be carried out at an early stage of language learning for the purpose of language professionalization. The selection of material for games involves both lexical units necessary for linguo-cultural communication, and grammatical rules that can help the development of a given topic. To analyze the results, the author uses data from a survey conducted among students who participated in the game. On the basis of these data, the charts demonstrating the readiness of students to work with Italian partners and in a multicultural environment are constructed. The carts show an increase of students’ confidence in their business communication skills with foreign partners. Knowledge of professional discourse and the ability to deal with it relieves stress, contributes to personal development. At the end of the article the author concludes that the use of a role-playing game as a productive modern technology for training international economists in a foreign language at an early stage contributes to the development of professional competencies.

Purpose The nature of knowledge and the way it is assimilated do play a vital role in influencing knowledge sharing tendencies. These specific factors coupled with the ineffectiveness of the intrinsic knowledge management system point towards an inherent knowledge hiding tendency that exists within every organization. Knowledge hiding is established as an intentional attempt to hide knowledge when it is requested. In the recent past, scholars have investigated the factors causing hiding of the task-related knowledge. However, there is still no clear understanding of the strategic factors that lead to knowledge hiding in organizations and which of these factors are the most critical ones. The purpose of this paper is to identify the most critical strategic factors that cause knowledge hiding in different contexts. Design/methodology/approach This research study tries to identify these factors from the literature, corroborate it with industry experts and model the same with the aid of total interpretive structural modelling. This is followed by Matrice d'Impacts Croises Multiplication Appliquée a un Classement and sensitivity analysis, which determines the unique driving factors and their powers, which vary based on industry sectors and years of work experience. Findings This study found out that knowledge hiding behaviour is more pronounced in the initial years of an individual within the organization and similarly in the final years of an individual within the organization. In a period in between both these, there are no critical driving factors that infuse knowledge hiding. Originality/value This is one of the first comprehensive research studies that unravel the dynamic nature of the strategic factors engendering knowledge hiding across two different dimensions, namely, industry sectors and work-experience of individuals. This study categorically aims to aid the management in bringing out necessary interventions to curb the menace of knowledge hiding.

Abstract:
Many studies have concluded that private sector development encourages economic growth due to many public enterprises’ poor performance and technological deficiencies. However, other studies have noted that private sector development would lead to the misuse of monopoly power. Since the advocacy is from two different perspectives, there is a need to investigate further the impact of private sector development on the country’s economy. The bounds cointegration test examined the long-term relationship between privatization and GDP growth. The long- and short-term connections between private sector development and GDP growth were studied using an Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. As a result, economic growth was found to be highly influenced by gross capital formation and market capitalization of domestic listed enterprises as a share of GDP, according to the ARDL estimates in the short term. In addition, the periods after privatization increase growth by about 0.23% in the short run and by 3.87% in the long run, at a 1% significance level. At a 1% significance level, gross capital formation and market capitalization of domestic listed enterprises as a share of GDP positively affected economic growth in the long term. This led to the conclusion that private sector development positively influences Nigerian economic growth in both the long- and short-term. This study recommends policy changes such as raising domestic investment and promoting privatization, capital market development, and financial institution development. This will stimulate private sector development and have a favorable impact on economic growth. Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to investigate the contribution of brokers to business non-profit collaborations, in the context of employee volunteering. It investigates the roles brokers play and ways they contribute to value creation within social alliances. Design/methodology/approach – This research focusses on a case study of a UK employee volunteering broker programme run by a local volunteer centre. A combined qualitative methodology involved document analysis and interviews, with brokers and business, community and government partners involved in employee volunteering collaborations. Findings – Brokers play three key roles in business non-profit collaboration as connectors, facilitators/co-designers and learning catalysts. These roles help stimulate manifestations of associational value, transferred resource value, interaction value and synergistic value. Research limitations/implications – Results indicate brokers play an important part in nurturing conditions underpinning innovation and value co-creation, key characteristics of transformational forms of business non-profit collaboration. This study was based on a single case study. Future research could explore broker contributions within a variety of business non-profit settings. Practical implications – For managers implementing business non-profit collaborations, this paper provides a framework depicting key broker roles and ways brokers enable collaborative value that may be useful when assessing whether to use the services of a broker. Originality/value – This paper enriches the understanding of business non-profit collaboration and the role of individual actors in affecting value creation, an under-researched area in the social alliance literature. It provides a framework for assessing broker contributions in business non-profit collaborations.

Abstract:
This study investigates the potential application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of sustainable fashion by streamlining the production of clothing and incorporating trend analysis. By researching current fashion trends and consumer preferences to identify the most well-liked apparel patterns and designs, the article seeks to optimise supply and demand while reducing surplus production. Fashion garment production can be optimised to fulfil customer demand while minimising waste and lowering costs by incorporating trend research into the manufacturing process. Companies may now invest in clothing concepts that will sell thanks to AI trend forecasting, which reduces some of the uncertainty and human error that now hinder trend forecasting. The fashion industry is infamous for its detrimental effects on society and the environment, including creation of waste and pollution. While the fashion industry has started to adopt more sustainable practises, AI has the ability to quicken the process by offering creative answers to some of the sector's most pressing problems. The study looks at a number of AI-related case studies in the fashion sector, including the use of predictive analytics to cut waste and streamline supply chains, computer vision to enhance textile recycling, and natural language processing to encourage openness and moral work practises. The paper also examines how AI could revolutionise the fashion business and hasten the shift to a more ethical and sustainable future. The report also highlights the necessity for careful evaluation of these concerns as the fashion industry develops by posing significant ethical and social implications for AI.

Abstract:
Small businesses play a vital role in the fabric of any economy. The Small Business Administration recognizes their significant contributions to economic growth, job creation, innovation, and overall prosperity. These businesses, although small in scale and often privately owned, have significant value compared to larger corporations. The definition of a small business can vary from country to country and industry to industry, encompassing factors such as the number of employees, annual revenue, and assets. Although various AI technologies are used quite often in everyday life (72% of respondents use voice assistants, smart gadgets, or automatic control of home appliances), less than half of respondents (45%) have used AI in their work processes in the past year. The most popular tasks are creative ones, which usually take up a lot of employees' operational time. For example, instead of recording a meeting and then spending several hours transcribing it, speech recognition technologies are used to translate it into text. Communication with customers can be simplified with the help of smart voice assistants. In order to find analogues of your products, it is not necessary to physically go around all competitors, sometimes it is enough to upload a photo to the image recognition and analysis service. However, only 19% of entrepreneurs used the capabilities of chatbots in their work that can support a dialogue, or virtual assistants that make an action plan and write a scenario, 4% of entrepreneurs tried to work with a neural network that understands requests in Russian and English, can mix images, mix images and text, create different versions of images, and also redraw individual objects and areas in pictures. 78% of entrepreneurs who used artificial intelligence technologies in their work consider them useful for their activities. Among the main advantages, respondents noted the release of employee time for other tasks (56%), high speed of execution (50%) and money savings (35%).

Abstract:
Building an ethical culture is challenging and it is a basic requirement for companies to embed transparency in their systems, creating a positive image and serving the internal and external communities. Twelve family-owned businesses participated in qualitative research. Interviews were conducted with employees of these businesses to explore the moral dynamics in their business. The paper significantly adds knowledge to the literature by exploring the role of ethics in particular contexts. It explores how these companies build the ethical culture, identifying the ethical culture sustainability triggers, challenges, and role of religion. Values, culture, community, and social norms are identified as major ingredients of sustainable principled culture development, and implementation of ethical policies and procedures require institutional and structural mechanisms for effectiveness in family-owned businesses. Numerous findings are in contrast to the literature, whereas, in other instances these are similar. Religion, society, family image, the entrepreneurs themselves, and their family members play a vital role. Non-interference in private matters of the employees, whistle-blowing, code of ethics, training and awareness creation, and a number of other factors play a leading role in ethical culture development in family businesses.

Abstract:
The effects of social networks on the relationship between internationalization and firm performance have been well documented in the international literature, and two dimensions of social networks have also been identified: business ties and political ties. However, few efforts have been made to examine whether there are different mechanisms of business ties and political ties. Based on social network theory and boundary spanning theory, we build a model of a dual mechanism of social networks, and the business ties and political ties of social networks that correspond with information processing and the external representation of boundary spanning theory. Using the data of Chinese listed companies in 2005–2013 and 2013–2017 to test the model, the results indicate that (1) in the relationship between internationalization and firm performance, the role of social networks has a dual mechanism. (2) Business ties play a mediating role in the relationship between internationalization and firm performance. Business ties are conducive to a company’s information acquisition and knowledge sharing and play the role of information processing. (3) Political ties play a U-shaped moderating role in the relationship between internationalization and firm performance and assume the role of external representation.
