Abstract:
In recent years there has been an increase in the contaminations of heavy metals on the environment. Government and private organization have shown their interest in the effect of dietary exposure to several heavy metals. These heavy metals have been implicated in the etiology of many diseases with high risk to humans. Canned tomatoes paste is one of the important health deterioting factors to human health in Ubani-Umuahia, Nigeria. In this study atomic absorption spectrophotometer was used to screen for nine heavy metals concentration in ten different brands of canned tomatoes paste sold at U

A method based on solid phase extraction followed by derivatization and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis was validated for the determination of bisphenol A (BPA) in canned food products. This method was used to analyze 78 canned food products for BPA. Concentrations of BPA in canned food products differed considerably among food types, but all were below the specific migration limit of 0.6 mg/kg set by the European Commission Directive for BPA in food or food simulants. Canned tuna products had the highest BPA concentrations in general, with mean and maximum values of 137 and 534

The research presented in this article reflects on the theme of vegetables byproducts as a material to encourage the consumption of plant-based food in a sustainable perspective. We present a case study of cultivation of tomatoes optimized for the synthesis of bioactives such as polyphenols, which usually concentrate in the peel and are normally discarded during industrial and domestic processing. It is estimated that the European tomato industry produces more than 200,000 tonnes of waste - peels and seeds - annually, which constitute an environmental problem and an economic cost. Currently, i
