Full textThis thesis looks at the analysis of both advisors and learners from three Mexican self-access centers located in a university setting. Through a comparative study, the thesis shows how the conceptual approaches that gave birth to the centers had a determining effect on their setup. The thesis also shows that it is in accordance with the beliefs that advisors have of language learning in general, and of the learning that is done in a center in particular, but also in accordance with the goals set down by the center that they put in place the services and the materials that they consider necessary to permit learning to take place. The thesis concludes that each center has a unique form of functioning, which is a meeting point between what the advisors propose and what the learners, taking into account their individuality, find in the center to give form to their personal learning project

Full textTeaching relies on a number of resources necessary for the preparation of lessons. The way they circulate is a challenge for those working in the field of education. The evolutions linked to the development of digital technologies also raise, in an increasingly pressing manner, the question of their organization. Our thesis studies these organizational practices. A multidimensional analytical framework articulating the macro, meso and micro levels has been developed in order to apprehend this activity by taking into account the socio-historical context in which it is deployed. It allows us to reveal the relationships and tensions between these three levels. On the theoretical level, it has been developed and enriched by the contributions of various academic works carried out in the fields of educational sciences, information and communication sciences, organizational sciences, and the history of knowledge, sciences and technologies. It has enabled us to develop a network of concepts that shed light on our subject. Methodologically, we have used this framework to conduct empirical investigations based on qualitative methodologies. These have led to the development of three corpora. Two corpuses are based on teachers' discourses. The first is the result of an ethnographic investigation in a high school. The second is based on elements of discourse from teachers’ network websites concerning the organization of resources and the mobilization of management tools. The last corpus is based on an analysis of the offer of digital tools and services for the organization of resources, or presenting functionalities dedicated to the organization of resources. Finally, we undertook the development of two glossaries to embrace the key notions and concepts used in this research. Our analyses underline the complexity of the resource organization activity. The latter is based on several actions relying on a vast hybrid tooling (paper and digital) and manifesting itself through forms of do-it-yourself. It also covers several dimensions: practical, affective, biographical and intimate. Our thesis shows that this activity, which could be thought of as trivial and secondary, plays on the contrary an important role in the process of appropriation and construction of knowledge, and that it is through this process that teachers can be ressourcefullness, and thus build and establish their legitimacy as professionals in the making and in development

Full textThe basic aim of this research is - firstly - to define the external and internai functionalities to Mathematics of Thales theorem in order to know -secondly - if they are conveyed through History in present teaching and if they are transmittable within an engineering at a secondary school level. After an epistemological research aiming at studying the evolution of the bearing on the statement and after connected prouves in History since Greek Antiquity, we have defined difficulties met by pupils in the recognition of geometrical configurations linked to this theorem and ils application. This has more particularly permitted to show the part played by the archetypal and prototypical figures linked to the Thales theorem and the mistakes occuring as soon as the figures proposed to pupils stray from them. These mistakes have particularly allowed to define pathogen figures, the figures which have been - wrongly - admitted unable to form the subject of an application of the theorem being qualifed of pathological ones. The actual teaching of this theorem has been analysed too and a certain numer of déficiences have been shown such as the weak level of problematicalisation of th activities supposed to induce the theorem and the open approach characterizing them. From these whole researches a didactic engineering has been formed. It aims at justifying the introduction of this theorem by means of calculation problems - calculation of inaccessible distance measures in the meso-space on thé one hand at organizing thé needed relations between the meso-space and the micro-space on the other hand

Full textThis research corresponds with a certain number of questions: - can there be a possible meeting between two important fields of the children cultural environment: school and television? - How about the young televiewer? What kind of competences does he develop thanks to the daily contact with television? - can these competences interest school? Can they be useful to the school work? - On the other hand, can the school background be useful to the "TV watchers" intellectual behavior? - can the school develop special competences for the televiewers without neglecting its traditional (and educational) mission? Can we develop the TV watchers' competences which give scholastic competences to the children? This project wants to be a meeting between the scholars' competences and the televiewers' competences. It is actually limited to three main themes: - the mastership of the language used on television and the development of this language's comprehension and use - the mastership of the fiction "space and time" programs

Full textThe allao system attempts to respond to the difficulties inherent in lip-reading learning by the use of specifically ada technology : the interactive videodisc driven by computer. The allao videodisc consists of 800 speech segments (syllables, words and sentences), uttered by several speakers. They constitute the video data base used to perform various exercices and tests. Specific functions of this technology (fast random access to a frame, replay, slow motion, text overlay) have been used to develop a teaching method complementary to classic methods. The allao system is built on the basis of the following principles : the hearing impaired user performs an action, thus exerting a "power" over the speech of the video interlocuteur : by means of the keyboard, the user may ask to see the sequence again, ask for a slow motion of that sequence, for an audio output, for an illustration of a word, for the written text or others aids to comprehension. The method is both analytical and global, depending on the linguistic category of the speech segments of the chosen exersise, or on the personal teaching approach of the therapist. Linguistic categories are used to respectively stimulat visual decoding (syllables), lexical access (words) and global comprehension (sentences, questions and answers). A stimulating context is proposed to the learner to observe and try to understand real speech. Thus, he may become aware of his comprehension mechanisms and be able to build his own rules to be used in a real communication situation. The results of the experimental stage have validated the above pedagogical principles. Speech therapists who regularly use the allao system observe a noticeable improvement of the deaf person's capability for verbal communication together with a strong motivation. The first goal of the system is to teach lip-reading impaired persons. The system may also be used in related fields : lipreading tests, auditive education and adaptation to the hearing aid

Full textThis thesis is interested in the art role in the background of students and the pertinence of a school book in this context. The Art – very increased in value socially – does not carry such valorization with it when passing through school, having a quite indefinite space in school organization several times. In this paper, we therefore, investigate the Art social function and the educational and cultural values contemplated by its nature. We focus on the conditions which favor an effective school process of learning teaching, by examining if a school book can reveal a facilitating condition of this process. To answer those several questions, our study was organized in two main parts. The first part – based on school, historical and anthropological foundations – defines our theoretical reference board: - What art is, what its essence is and its real educational value; - What the characteristics of a learning-teaching process pertinent and updated of art at school are. The second part, predominantly appraising, is interested in the possible contribution of a school book in the teaching of art. It shows how we can propose a school material coherent with the attributes and possibilities of this knowledge area. It shows the results of a work of effectiveness verification of this contribution, through a field research done in 18 Brazilian schools

Full textThis research work is in the framework of a collaboration between SYMME laboratory and expert physiotherapists from the Réseaux Bronchiolite. It aims at designing a physical torso simulator of an infant for chest physiotherapy gesture learning. In response to a specific need expressed by practitioners, we propose a didactical tool to allow a novice to assess proficiency in comparison to referent gesture. Expert vocational activity in real working situation has been observed to define environment and constraints pertaining to the patient and to precise needs in term of measurement. In order to characterize the gesture, an innovative specific and painless system has been designed and realized using displacement and pressure sensors inserted on gloves. Special care has been brought concerning the implementation of the DAQ chain and the calibration method. Measurement campaigns in real care situation in ward office have been led. Data processing and analysis showed an obvious repeatability of the expert gesture that allows constructing a database. Relevant parameters for the design of the future simulator have been defined and analysed. In close collaboration with physiotherapists, the mechatronical approach includes didactical dimension to the construction of the specifications. The simulator consists in a physical anthropomorphic torso of a six month infant. The learning paradigm and functionalities will be obtained conjointly by the mechanical structure and its instrumentation. A passive system focussing research work on structure and materials has been preferred. Several finite element simulations have been performed with boundaries conditions corresponding to representative gesture situation. The choice of the structural design and choice of materials by trial and error approach was done comparing displacement results from the simulation with the one measured during campaign on real babies

Full textThis study seeks better understanding of how students and teacher react to new technologies which are made available to them in documentation and information centres in secondary education schools, through the implementation of media libraries. Three assumptions can be retained: -the activities relative to the appropriation of a media library and the constitution of new documentary resources could be called "do-it-yourself" both from the students and the teachers point of view. -the integration of new documentary resources in education would be a more didactic problem than a pedagogical innovation. -the students could easily incorporate these new documentary resources because of the down to earth experience they have in using multimedia both at home and at school. The results of this work could be as follows: -each media library has specific features and this type of innovation must be adapted to different schools. -teachers had to use negociations, poaching and know-how to fight the strategical opposition of some documentalists. -the use by teachers of mediatised documentary and didactic resources derives more from the context of use and interrogation than from substance. - students'consultations are caracterised by mediatized and school activities, as well a metacognitive approach can be observed

Full textAt the close of the new researches in didactics at university (French on university objectives and Remote Teaching) and educational reforms targeting the development of learners' level in French inside and outside French departments (Project of updating of French and in French in higher education),scientific and technical French in departments of preliminary courses is an interesting field of study. First-year students-those who passed the baccalaureate- need to know about their university aims in French so as to target the content of apprenticeship programmes and evaluation. Further to a conception of a system of reference of abilities of scientific and technical French (inspired from the principles of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and an online lesson of scientific and technical French on MOODLE 2.4 of Tunis Virtual University, we undertake in this thesis to design the models of apprenticeship assessments appropriate to our context. The 2014 investigations in Preparatory Institute for engineering Studies de Sfax and Faculty of Sciences of Sfax (with students of the four branches, French module instructors and the first-year subjects ’instructors) have led us to envisage the idea of the contextualization of apprenticeship portfolio and a model of linguistic certification (Study Diploma in French Language of B1 level) from which we get the conception of brief /summary assessments

Full textOur research project in didactics of mathematics is to study the use of digital technologies as a complementary environment to concrete manipulations. We define a duo of artefacts as the fruitful link between a digital artefact and a material one in such a way that this linking is an added value for the learning process. The instrumental approach of Rabardel allows us to establish the requirements for this link, each artefact enriching the other through the constructed instruments. A duo of artefacts sets off associated instrumental geneses. In order to base the conditions of the learning process, in the sense of Brousseau, a duo exists only when it is mobilized in a didactic situation. Our issue is to develop a duo of artifacts including the pair of compasses for the conceptualization of the triangle in the teaching of its geometric construction. The composition of the duo and its orchestration in a didactic situation are intended to bring out a new instrumental genesis of the compasses and, according to Duval's work, a 1D dimensional deconstruction of the triangle. Experiments in classes have enabled us to validate the hypothesis that the situation and the duo cause the development of a new pair of compasses instrument to rotate a segment. Balacheff's model of conceptions also allowed us to identify the evolution of pupils' conceptions of the triangle and the circle as the situation progressed, specifically the improvement of a 1D vision of the triangle as a closed broken line and a characterization of the circle as the trajectory of one end of a pivoted segment

Full textThis work was born after a reflection about motivation and its diverse agents. We wanted to go from a uniquely psychological vision of motivation towards the examination of teaching instruments such as the teacher’s manual and its structure, its material shape… But coming from the principle that a manual or a method – mostly universal – can’t by itself influence a specific student, in a specific classroom of a specific country we ask ourselves how, in fact, the teacher uses these instruments to organize a course and – during such – motivate the students on their learning. To answer these questions we use as observation object the classes of French as a second language (FSL) of a Brazilian Language Center. Our main goal was to better understand the perception that teachers have of their group of students, the beliefs regarding their interests and the practical solutions they find to (re)motivate while establishing an “internal” teaching transposition from the manuals at their disposal

Full textThis thesis focuses on the design and analysis of teaching/learning situations in genetics classes in secondary schools in Centra African Republic. It aims to improve the Central African education system by developing practical activities that take account of local constraints. Analysis of ordinary teaching situations in the third year of secondary school showed that the curricula didnot recommend any investigative approaches. We also found that there was no real teaching environment for studying the duplication of chromosome chromatids that precedes cell division, known as mitosis or conformal reproduction. We therefore proposed a situation incorporating a manipulative activity in genetics using locally manufactured teaching aids adapted to the Central African context. The epuipment consisted of painted wooden bars modelling genes, which the pupils were invited to manipulate, thus creating a learning environment. The research shows that the manipulative activity tested in 2021 in the third year contributed to the pupils’understanding of the concepts of gene and mitosis. Despite significant progress in thte acquisition of knowledge, the implementation of the modified situation also posed difficulties, which are analysed here. The theaching-learning situations were analysed using concepts from the Theory of didactic situations (TSD) (Brousseau,1998) and the Theory of joint action in didactics (TACD) (Sensevy, 2011) wich at the same time have similarities and specifities

Full textThis study contributes to understand strategies, initiatives and genuine effects of French language dissemination. It’s set in Chad, a black African space connecting two globalized linguistics communities : the French-speaking world and the Arabic-speaking world. This work aims to investigate dynamics of FLLC as a didactic intervention authority and a sharing place of powers and interests between Chad and France. Chad choppy linguistic and educational context analysis allows understanding the emergence issues of this training system and appraising the influence of the various policies on its evolution. Practical details of dividing out roles between the two states and functionality of didactic triangle are dissected and assessed. Cadence and conditions of FLLC network genuine independence are argued more particularly about the training of teachers. Finally the analysis of the Arabic-speaking learner integration in Chad French-speaking economic and administrative network allows estimating FLLC impact and its social utility for this nation in construction. Data and analysis produced claim to be instructive, pragmatic and useful for the coming development of this original organisation institution

Full textThis research aims at evaluating the spatial integration of textual information by means of pop-up windows compared to a separated text-illustration format and integrated text-illustration format. The results show that the formats which concentrate on the spatial integration of the information by means of pop-up windows improve students' performance in tasks which require the memorization and comprehension of information and suggest that the group “pop-up windows” performed better than the integrated group when asked to understand the document and memorize illustrated elements. In the second time, this research enables to propose various assumptions concerning the superiority of “pop-up” format compared to the two other formats. It has been established that the facilitation of text-illustration co-referencing, the visual salience of the illustration or the diminution of perceptual overload explain the beneficial effect of “pop-up” format on the performances in terms of learning

Full textOral comprehension is a primary skill when learning foreign languages. In the classroom, it is generally ad-dressed by using dialogues usually depicting daily life situations of native speakers. These materials may include speech only or speech along with contextual environmental sounds. However few studies offer formalisation of these complex course materials, both in terms of their production and their educational use. Our study is based on the following questions: What mechanisms are at stake in a listening task? How ad hoc soundscapes, that may help learners, can be created? Which functions can these soundscapes stand for? How can their impact on understanding linguistic statements be assessed? In our work, we assess the role of a soundscape along with the verbal message: does it play an important part in the understanding of the message, multiplying meaningful cues and providing a frame for the construction of the meaning as previous studies in this field indicate? In this context, we implemented a behavioral experimental design. We elaborated all the test materials, as well as an ad hoc protocol developed in order to assess the understanding of the dialogues, with or without contextual soundscape, by native French speakers and learners of French as a foreign language (A level). Our results reveal that the contextual soundscape helps the comprehension for non-native speakers, which matches the results of the studies about cognitive load. Finally, this study allows us to discuss various didactic perspectives that are in line with a strategic teaching of oral comprehension

Full textThis thesis is the culmination of a study to understand the place given to lexical contents in French teaching as a foreign language (FLE) in Mozambique, in a process that integrates the universities that train the future FLE teachers, and secondary schools where they practice their profession at the end of their higher training. The research corpus consists of 3 (three) strands, namely (i) the materials used in the University, as well as in secondary schools, including teaching programs and official manuals; (II) videos of teaching practices in universities and secondary schools; and (iii) the lexical knowledge tests carried out by students. We used the Théophanous grid (2004) to analyze the volume and organization of lexical contents in textbooks. This grid is a tool specially designed to study how the FLE manuals present the lexical contents. The analysis of the methods of lexicon teaching was carried out through the theory of joint action of didactics (TACD), and we used the IRAMUTEQ software to measure the flow of interaction in the classroom. Finally, the correction of the lexical knowledge tests was done manually

Full textThe majority of researches in educational sciences focus on the health education. The work focuses on the various players in the health education whatsoever actors of public health, teachers or students. The main results make it possible to introduce a variety of educational tools information initial and continuing training. The health education is a key point that should be addressed early childhood, a time when children are particularly receptive and actively explore their environment This study is meant to teach a set of health concepts to preschool children (5-6 years) a comparative approach with / without teaching materials. The Population involves seven kindergartens in France and seven kindergartens in Syria. In this regard, a questionnaire sent to school teachers concerned to permit study their representations using teaching aids and teaching health concepts for preschoolers. The impact of educational tools in learning health concepts is examined through written tests by children A clear variation among teachers of both countries when it comes to the concepts and the tools in use. French schools teachers showed a clear interest in school materials; while their counterparts in Syria stressed on reading textbooks and story. As opposed to this variation, teachers in both countries stressed on the role of health concepts but they also mentioned the barrier they face that prevents them from proper use of these tools in teaching health concepts to preschool children. Note that the results of the experimental group in the written tests are better than those in the control group and this result is correlated with the experience and level of expertise of teachers

Full textThe transition from spoken (unwritten, said, told) to written and from the meaninglessness towards the communication tools and then to their integration in an educational project has taken centuries and has gone through several chapters. Despite the differences that can be perceived on the rhythms and modalities of this educational and communicational transformation between Europe and the Arab world, this evolution of thinking about educational tools and media has greatly influenced the way people apprehend these techniques. Especially considering that these techniques are more and more digital today. In France, for decades, several digital plans for education have been implemented. In Tunisia, after the creation of the Virtual University of Tunis in 2002, a project about the integration of digital tablets in public schools had been announced. Despite the political, economic, social and cultural differences between these two countries, we noticed strategic similarities that characterize their respective digital educational approaches. We can note, among others, a similarity in the voluntary installation of educational techniques accompanied by speeches announcing easiness, more reliability and more success. In the framework of our research, we focus on the issue of e-learning and the tools implemented for it. We are not doing a binary comparison between the way that technology in education is used in France and the way that technology in education is used in Tunisia. We, however, prospect both experiences while emphasizing the Tunisian approach. E-learning is a particularly delicate communication situation, not only because it is influenced by social and economic factors, but also because of the bursting of the notion of space that exasperate the learners’ feeling of isolation. To overcome this feeling of isolation and for successful distance learning, several researchers propose a self-regulation process. While it is centered on the activity of the learner himself, this process insists on the importance of the intervention of all education system users. Through our research, we wanted to ask the question of self-regulated learning in the Tunisian context represented by the Virtual University of Tunis (VUT). We then sought to understand the self-regulated behavior of Tunisian students (learners) in the light of the institute system. To raise these issues we opted for a methodology that combines observation, questionnaire, geode protocol and content analysis. This research led to three major outcomes: the creation of the VUT is a political project intended to convey a modern image of Tunisia. Indeed, besides the experience of the Higher Institute of Continuing Education, established in 1984, no reflection on a pedagogy adapted to distance learning in Tunisia has been implemented especially that the VUT is based on digital technologies. Thus, the self-regulated learner behavior varies, according to the degree of control exerted by the VUT environment on their learning activities, between adaptation to the formal requirements and creating informal conditions

Full textStudies, and notably PISA 2009, have highlighted that foreign students enrolled in French schools significantly lag behind their French counterparts in terms of reading proficiency. This study postulates that grade-level reading proficiency is a pre-requisite to achieving in school and to having fair access to the curriculum. This is even more the case for adolescent second language learners enrolled at the secondary level, the student population on which this study is focused.Based on a qualitative paradigm, this work analyzes six language programs designed for second-language learner newcomers enrolled at the middle school level in France and in the United States. The study reveals and compares the practices used in these six programs for the teaching of academic literacy in L2. Literacy most generally comprises skills in both reading and writing. The focus of this study, however, is on academic reading. The programs have been analyzed from both a sociolinguistic and language-teaching perspective. First, the study examines the legislation in place in France and the United States, regarding the schooling of second language learners in these two countries. This section determines if these texts stipulate the reading skills that need to be developed and achieved by these students during their stay in, and before exiting, the language programs. It then examines the notions of literacy and academic literacy, and endeavors to determine the reading skills necessary for potential success in a mainstream middle school classroom. Lastly, the study examines the best practices, cited in the literature, for the teaching of academic reading to adolescent second language learners. It then investigates if, and how, these practices are incorporated into the six different language programs. Upon conclusion, results of the study revealed that these practices are relatively well incorporated in the American programs but, overall, are not widely used in the programs observed in France. The results also reveal that the teachers of French as a second language working in these programs significantly lack, compared to their American counterparts, research-based teaching materials and models, as well as means of assessment

Full textOur study aims at describing shapes and functions of the reformulation made by the teachers, as well as their influence on the students’ notes in higher education. At the University, lectures are the primary mode of communication (Bouchard and Parpette, 2007, 2012). Reformulations occupy an important place. Among the various forms of reformulations (Gülich and Kotschi, 1987), exemplification and definition are frequently a mean to get through the terminology used in the discipline. This thesis aims to address the use of exemplification and definition via an analysis of videotapes of four classes speaking to first year Linguistics students that convey the same content. The corpus that we want to analyze consists of eight sessions supervised by two experienced teachers and two novice teachers. Teachers rely on different teaching materials: technological media (PowerPoint) or traditional handouts and use of the blackboard. Based on the work of Coltier (1988) and referring to Riegel (1990) and Rebeyrolle (2000)’s typology, we will try to characterize and understand how the examples and definitions can contribute to the construction and processing of knowledge among students through their notes’ taking. The study of the linguistic phenomenon of reformulation in higher education, through the proposal of new categories of analysis, allow us to propose new categories of analysis, refine the theoretical analysis of the definition and examples, and to identify specifics in the discourse of University teachers. It may also provide first year students and University teachers training with guidance

Full textThe purpose of this study is to understand the processes involved in the comprehension of texts in a second language, and to propose an intervention that enhances readers' comprehension strategies. This work draws on theories of Psychology and Language Science (language didactics in particular), but it also includes some interest for language learning in virtual environments, that can be relevant to promote text comprehension. Three experiments were conducted to analyse the impact of a pedagogical tool created to support reading comprehension at a methodological level. More exactly, the tool aimed to guide the reader when facing several texts that treat the same topic. Its effectiveness was tested in English and French as a second language. As anticipated, the use of the tool led to to positive outcomes on the comprehension of the texts as evidenced in essay writing and question answering tasks. To conclude that research, a pedagogical model about second language reading is proposed. The model highlights the relevance of some didactical principles like global approach, reading by stages, but also supporting attention to texts' sources and main ideas. Moreover, a computerized version of the tool, which would place readers in an individualized learning context, is described. Its implementation is considered as a follow up of the present research
