Il saggio si propone di rintracciare l'eredità filosofica e l'influenza della filosofia di Epicuro nel Dei delitti e delle pene di Cesare Beccaria. Nell'opera di Beccaria sono evidenti le assonanze con le epicuree Ratae Sententiae e con il lucreziano De Rerum Natura, di cui Beccaria possedeva più copie.
