Abstract:

Background: Candida is the part of normal microbial flora of human body that potentially causes disease in the immune compromised host. Though C. albicans is regarded as most virulent species, non- albicans Candida are increasingly being reported in clinical samples which warrant their accurate identification that helps in directing the effective use of antifungal agents.
Methods: The study was done in clinical isolates of Candida species obtained at clinical laboratory, Nobel Hospital, Kathmandu from the period of May 2014 to April 2015. Phenotypic characterization was based on t

ABSTRACT Introduction: Vulvovaginal candidiasis is one of the most common infections seen in women. Materials and Methods: A total of 300 symptomatic women were studied. High vaginal swabs collected from each patient were processed by Gram stain, culture on Sabourauds dextrose agar and CHROM agar plates. Isolates were identified and speciated using conventional methods and by the color of the colonies on the CHROM agar. Antifungal susceptibility was performed by disc diffusion method for fluconazole (25 μg) and voriconazole (1 μg) discs as per Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI)

Infections caused by MRSA are worldwide, resulting in increased mortality and morbidity. Detecting the mecA gene or its product by PCR is recognized as a gold standard for detection of MRSA. In resource limited clinical settings phenotypic method which is simple, rapid, accurate and cost effective is required. Cefoxitin disc diffusion is considered as surrogate marker for mec A gene, and could be considered as gold standard for MR isolates. The Molecular identification and characterization of yeasts isolated from fermentation food stuffs in Sari, north Iran, were investigated. The yeasts involved in the fermentation food stuffs were found to consist of Saccharomyces spp. almost exclusively. Of yeast species isolated investigated, 27.4% were identified as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, whereas more than half of the isolates [72.6%] had physiological properties of other yeast for example K. lactis، K. marxianus P. manshurica، P. membranifaciens، P. occidentails، P. kudriavzerii، Z. paradaii، C. pseudoasrei، C. paraugosa، T. delbrueckii
