This paper looks into the relation between alive voice and writing in ancient letters. The focus of the research is not concentrated on the content of messages but in its dictate conditions, reading aloud, opening and closing formulas. This paper covers a wide historical period; this can be explained because ancient letters were largely conservative. Between the voice and writing, letters were a sign of the persistence of rhetoric, memory and progressive acceptance of the visual message as a predominant mean of communication.

Abstract Long distance water diversion projects transfer clean water to cities for industrial, agricultural and domestic use; there is a great risk of sudden water pollution accidents. Without a fast and optimal decision for emergency control in response to sudden water pollution accidents, dispatchers or decision-makers will not be prepared to respond to the accidents during the process of an emergency spill. To address this gap, a framework for fast and optimal decision support in emergency control is reported in this paper. The proposed fast and optimal decision system covers four stages. I

Abstract:
In the paper we have analysed hydrocarbon deposits of the Western region according to their belonging to the tectonic zones, stratigraphic complexes, types and depths of occurrence. The law-governed nature of alteration in physical-chemical properties of oil and gas, hydrogeological and geochemical peculiarities of productive thickness were studied, haloes of the distribution of gas of hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon composition outcrops of fluids were mapped. Problems of the formation of hydrocarbon accumulations were considered. According to the results of integrated analysis of different ge

The background of this research was a phenomenon in the educational process where the teaching materials used were not optimal, so a development was needed. In this case, the teaching materials were Students Worksheets (LKS) used at SDN 01 Rejang Lebong and they only contained questions and exercises, without being equipped with the presentation of teaching material, character values and illustrative examples. This study aims to develop teaching materials in the form of illustrative Student Worksheets (LKS) containing character education in mathematics learning for grade 1 in the 2020/2021 aca

Digital aerial images (DAI) include position, elevation and also spectral information (visible bands and near-infrared band) about the captured area. The aim of this paper is to present the possibilities of automatic analysis of DAI for updating of the Fundamental Base of Geographic Data of the Czech Republic with a focus on buildings. Regular updates of buildings (automatic detection of new and demolished buildings) are based on the analysis of coloured point clouds created by an automatic image matching technique from each time period. This paper is derived from my ‘closing remarks’ lecture at the 287th Faraday Discussions meeting on New Directions in Porous Crystalline Materials, Edinburgh, UK, 5–7 June, 2017. This meeting comprised sessions on the design of porous networks, and their capture, storage, separation, conducting properties, catalysts, resistance to chemicals and moisture, simulation, and electronic structures. This paper details the achievements and developments in the field, as reflected in invited speakers’ papers and discussions with the attendees during the meeting.

Purpose Change has always been hard. But now, change is becoming a constant. Defining change – identifying the new strategy, business model or process the organization needs to retain market share – is difficult enough. Leading the organization through change is even harder. The purpose of this paper is to use a combination of survey and case studies to measure organizations’ change maturity and provide guidance on how organizations can move from check-the-box approaches to ones that drive behavioral shifts. Purpose – This paper aims to examine the vast and growing body of evidence which shows that workplace innovation, practices which empower employees to make day-to-day-decisions, challenge established practices and contribute ideas, which are heard at the most senior levels of an organisation lead to better business results as well as enhanced workforce health and engagement. Design/methodology/approach – As European businesses struggle to emerge from recession, this evidence offers an important resource for enhanced competitiveness, increasing productivity and the rate of innovation. Abstract:
In this paper quasi-codivisible covers are defined and investigated relative to a torsion theory (T, F) on Mod R. It is shown that if (T, F) is cohereditary, then a right R-module M has a quasi-codivisible cover whenever it has a codivisible cover. Moreover, it is shown that if (T, F) is cohereditary, then the universal existence of quasi-codivisible covers implies that the ring R/T (R) must be right perfect. The converse holds when (T, F) is pseudo-hereditary.

Abstract Many commercially available English-language materials do not provide natural, or even pragmatically appropriate, conversational models for learners. This paper argues for increasing the role of pragmastics in English-language instruction. Classroom teachers can integrate pragmatics into the language curriculum by drawing on natural conversations, students' observations, and incomplete dialogues in textbooks. The paper provides guide-lines for pragmatically-centred lessons, as well as examples of specific activities, using closings in American English to illustrate these examples.

This paper is developed from the presentation given by Walter Eltis at the National Institute's seminar ‘Industrial Productivity and Competitiveness' held in London on 23 May 1995. It sets out the approach underlying the UK Government's 1994 and 1995 White Papers on competitiveness and begins by reviewing the debate on the meaning of national competitiveness. The White Papers define competitiveness as the ability to raise living standards and argue that, contrary to the views of some leading economists, competitiveness is a useful guide to policy because of the emphasis on national benchmarkin

Purpose – Increased economic development in emerging economies has spurred the growth of “fast fashion” and this in turn has led to not only an opportunity for recycling activity but also a need to do so from a sustainability perspective. The purpose of this paper is to consider the emergence of such recycling activity in a developing economy. Design/methodology/approach – A process flow approach guides identification of stakeholders and an analysis of reverse supply chain structure and processes.
