The cirratulid species Chaetozone corona is reported for the first time from the North-east Atlantic waters. Several specimens were collected during oceanographic surveys between 1996 and 2015 from soft bottom habitats along the coasts of Brittany (Western France). This species, originally described from the coast of California, was recently recorded for the first time from the Mediterranean Sea. We hypothesize that this species could have been recently introduced to the Atlantic coasts of Europe and colonized the northern coast of Bay of Biscay from the Loire estuary to the Iroise Sea. The construction of archaeological narrative is influenced by a number of factors. Some come from within disciplinary boundaries, whilst others are traced from the wider influences of social, cultural or academic contexts. The history of research of these areas allows an evaluation of how these disparate influences interact. Abstract:
Spanish luster pottery is one of the rarest finds in cities of Eastern Europe forest zone. Italian merchants brought a lot of such luxurious tableware to the cities on the northern coast of the Black Sea, from where it penetrated into the steppes, but only a few vessels penetrated further north, into the forests. There are 2 categories of such ceramics known here - “Pula type” and “classical” Valencian. Archaeological finds of Spanish luster vessels were discovered mainly in Moscow, and in 2011 a series of fragments was found at the suburban estate of Metropolit of Rus Cyprian, who could have

he article explores the conceptual foundations and defining characteristics of the sharing economy, focusing on its implications, benefits, and challenges. The sharing economy, characterized by the efficient use of underutilized resources, transparency, trust, and reciprocity, contrasts with traditional economic models by fostering peer-to-peer interactions facilitated by digital platforms. These platforms, such as Airbnb and Uber, have disrupted traditional markets by offering more flexible, accessible, and cost-effective services. The study highlights that the rapid growth of peer-to-peer pl

The paper presents a methodology to calculate the seakeeping performance of ships, which is given as an operability index, and discusses the sensitivity of the results to the use of different seakeeping criteria. The calculation of the operability index, which represents the percentage of time during which the ship is operational, depends on the wave climate of the ocean area where the ship operates, the dynamic response of the ship to the waves, and the ship mission. The relation between the ship operability and the mission characteristics is established through the seakeeping criteria. The c

Cruise AL534/2 is part of a multi-disciplinary research initiative as part of the JPI Oceans project HOTMIC and sought to investigate the origin, transport and fate of plastic debris from estuaries to the oceanic garbage patches. The main focus of the cruise was on the horizontal transfer of plastic debris from major European rivers into shelf regions and on the processes that mediate this transport. Stations were originally chosen to target the outflows of major European rivers along the western Europe coast between Malaga (Spain) and Kiel (Germany), although some modifications were made in r

Behavioural interventions are policies and programmes that incorporate insights from scientists who study human behaviour (such as psychology and behavioural economics), with the aim of encouraging socially desirable behaviours by removing barriers and creating incentives or disincentives (Cornago, 2021). Very few behavioural interventions for energy efficiency have been documented in Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans, and none in North Macedonia. The limited experience that has been documented in the region consists of a few small trials which used behavioural principles to inform househ

We want to identify geographical patterns with a view on mobility-based training from the WB6 region to the EU, but also within the WB6 region. The following structured regional European programmes provide the basis for this comparative analysis • CEEPUS • ERASMUS + • Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) • COST

A visa is often required for international student mobility. The costs for this vary enormously, as data from the Global Mobilities Project (GMP) shows. Students from the Global South sometimes pay more than twice as much as students from Europe. The differences are even greater when the standard of living is taken into account: While the costs for students from Western Europe amount to only a fraction of the average daily income, students from Central Asia would have to work for almost three weeks and those from sub-Saharan Africa for more than five weeks to afford a visa. The countries of Southeast Europe are facing severe demographic challenges. Falling birth rates, high levels of emigration, and a lack of a comprehensive family support system are leading to a rapid decline in population. All these factors are particularly true for the Western Balkan countries. We continue our analysis on Southeast Europe’s demographic situation with an overview of the trends in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, and North Macedonia.

Lars Erik Berntzen aims to probe the growth of far-right and anti-Islamic twist in Western Europe and North America since 2001 through his book “Liberal roots of Far Right Activism – The Anti-Islamic Movement in the 21st Century” by focusing on a specific context in terms of spatial and temporal meanings. According to his book, through “framing Islam as a homogenous, totalitarian ideology which threatens Western civilization” far-right seems to abandon the old, traditional, radical, authoritarian attitude towards a more liberal, modern, rights-based strategy.

The 2024 European Parliament (EP) election in Greece was held against a background of geopolitical instability in Europe’s neighbourhood. However, domestic – rather than European – issues dominated the campaigns, including the economy, inflation and the cost-of-living crisis. The electoral results were primarily an anti-government protest vote and confirmed a trend of electoral fragmentation across the political spectrum. On the right, three relatively new far-right populist parties received parliamentary representation, i.e., the Greek Solution, Victory and the Voice of Reason. On the left, S

Cretaceous-Paleogene strata along the eastern coast of Baffin Island, on Bylot Island, and on associated islands north of Cape Dyer, have been known since the early days of exploration of Baffin Bay in the mid-nineteenth century. Studies of these strata in the 1970s-1990s established their clastic nature and revealed details of their stratigraphy, ages, and depositional settings. Onshore strata in the Cape Dyer area accumulated in close association with volcanic deposits related to late-stage rifting in the Late Cretaceous to Early Paleocene that eventually formed Baffin Bay. Female-coded family work keeps women away from late working life – but it makes a difference where in Europe they live because Nordic countries do not recognize this divide. Key Findings Childcare impacts upon late working life – women tend to be employed part time or outside paid labor if they engaged in childcare during earlier life stages; men with children are more likely to be in full-time employment. Women are more affected by early working life decisions – previous labor-market participation or a reduction in working hours due to childcare obligations have a greater impact on late worki
