Abstract:
Effective patient care depends on the ability to store and retrieve patient information and medical knowledge. All knowledge is either acquired from the environment or created de novo through trial and error. In either case, cues from the environment are filtered through working memory to attempt to guide action. Psychological principles such as resource theory and cognitive load theory suggest that humans have a limited amount of working memory that can be used to assimilate new information. When working memory is overloaded (i.e., cognitive overload), one’s attention is limited to fewer sali

Abstract:
Research has highlighted a puzzling discrepancy in our selective attention performance: whereas in some circumstances we are able to be highly selective, at other times we can exhibit high levels of distraction. The load theory of attention and cognitive control provides an explanation for these contrasting observations, proposing that the extent to which people can focus their attention in the face of irrelevant distractions depends on the level and type of information load involved in their current task. According to the theory, the extent to which unattended visual information is perceived

Abstract:
The article presents several models of evolutionary psychology. Nativist evolutionary psychology is built around a most important insight that ordinary human decision-making has a high cognitive load. Evolutionary nativists defend a modular solution to the problem of information load on human decision-making. Human minds comprises of special purpose cognitive devices or modules. One of the modules is a language module, a module for interpreting the thoughts and intentions of others, another is a ‘naive physics’ module for causal reasoning about sticks, stones, and similar inanimate objects, a

Abstract:
Abstract Acute neurological illnesses (ANIs), such as strokes or brain injuries, often traumatize patients and their caregivers, triggering shared emotional distress like anxiety, depression, or posttraumatic stress. The sudden onset of an ANI, admission to the intensive care unit, and the uncertain prognosis heighten this distress. If untreated, this distress can persist and hinder both recovery and quality of life. The Recovering Together program can help prevent chronic emotional distress through a six-session intervention that teaches mindfulness, coping strategies, and interpersonal skill

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the wider cultural and psychological ramifications of chromaticism in film music. It is argued that pantriadicism strives for a specific affect: wonderment, and with it two subsidiary psychological states, frisson and awe. Both literary and cognitive/psychological accounts are given for this affect’s connection with harmony, with particular emphasis on the relationship of emotion and musical expectation. Frisson and awe have distinctive temporal profiles, leading to an evaluation of theoretical and empirical work on subjective temporality in connection with chromaticism
